Just fucking sick of dogs

1000 replies

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 19:00

Sorry but I am. I was cycling home from
picking up DS from school with him on the back and a dog came running up beside
me snarling and snapping at my feet on the pedals. I nearly bloody went over but managed to keep my balance and get past it (electric bike). Owner called an apology and I just rode on as it was still off the lead and I was worried for DS.

This is a national cycling path and much used school route so there are always bikes and children 8-9 and 3-4.

A sausage dog decided to bolt towards my 2 year old last month in the park for no apparent reason and I had to scoop him
up to avoid contact.

And don’t get me started in the ‘oh he’s just being friendly’. I don’t want your fucking dog jumping on me or my children or scaring my kids when we are just going about our day.

They should ALL be on leads unless they are in a dog park/field.

Xenobitch, if they do not make the "grade" in dog behaviour, don't give up on them. It is not good for the dog to be unruly and could be danger to others. If you care for the dog, do this for him. It is the owner's responsibility too.

Phonedown · 06/11/2023 12:38

Nothing will improve with dogs mauling kids, dog shit everywhere and the incessant inclusion of dogs in every area of life including cafes and restaurants 🤮 until a two tier dog license system is in place. License 1 issued before you can buy/adopt dog, second part issued within 6 months once you and dog have completed training including recall.

How about a license to have kids who grow up with useless parents and become a nuisance to schools and society as a whole.

My lovely dog is no bother to anyone unlike many horrible humans and their feral offsprings.

Happyhappy10 · 06/11/2023 13:09

I feel exactly the same. I love dogs. I had dogs growing up.

It is an absolute nightmare going out with 3 young children and having strange dogs, off their lead, running up to them... jumping on them... running around them frantically.

It puts me on edge.

The owners 'oh he's friendly', 'your children will do more harm to my dog than she will to them', ' it's a free country' etc etc. They do seldom listen to their owner telling them to get down, come away etc. That's if they even bother. They casually walk, very very slowly to get their dog under control.

It is genuinely scary. I'm not a nervous person.

Sausage dogs are the wurst.

Very funny :)

I'm hungry now.

Then you and your lovely dog would have nothing to worry about would you.

DamDaniel · 06/11/2023 13:47

I've got a solution ... less people would equal less dogs right? Let's limit the amount of people who can have kids or, at least, the amount they can have. Loads of humans are surplus to requirements really so it won't be a great loss and it'll mean fewer dogs in parks, cafes, pubs etc. Sorted.

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 06/11/2023 14:04

I don't see the big deal about dogs in cafes. They're generally on the floor and not near the food prep areas or counter. People, on the other hand touch things and touch their faces and cough or sneeze then touch things. Who knows when they last washed their hands? People are way more unhygienic than dogs, and yes, dogs sniff bums and sometimes eat poo but any germs from that are not going to be near your food.

Madamum18 · 06/11/2023 16:13

Im am astounded at those who seem to think this dogs behaviour is not an issue. A cyclist with a child on the back and a dog owner not controlling their dog and nearly causing a potentially very nasty accident!! Of course its a problem and OFCOURSE the dog owner is at fault

XenoBitch · 06/11/2023 16:42

They fill a gap in the owner's world, which is missing from family/friends/partners

I wish this crap would not keep getting trotted out. Don't assume the reasons why someone got a dog.
My dog enhanced my life. She was not a substitute for anything.

In a cafe recently a friendly looking dog pushed its way under the table I was sat at. Without thinking I put my hand down to my handbag which was on the floor and it snapped at me luckily only grazing my knuckles. Owner was unaware. Too busy talking to her companion. I’m not anti dog but they should be under control.

😂 Right. There was no gap in my life, but my kid was begging me for a canine addition to our family and now I can't imagine life without him. 😍

But we were repeatedly nearly mown down by bikes on a woodland path yesterday and had to haul our dog to safety several times. They shouldn’t have been racing through ancient woodland. It’s damaging. I don’t however start threads demonising all “ f**g”biker riders and requesting all be punished by restriction.

Interesting choice of breed for a dog 'lover'

Flat-faced, or brachycephalic, dog breeds are very popular - but they do have health problems. Before you buy a bulldog, pug or French bulldog, read our top vet advice and make an informed decision.

Indeed.
This sort of breeding needs looking at. Breeders should be shamed for causing unneccesary harm to dogs. It's shameful

Abbimae · 06/11/2023 20:09

Sick of the same argument being trotted out- my dog is my family etc. right but can you not accept that other people don’t feel that way? Some people simply dont want dogs jumping up at them. Full stop.

I don't let my dog jump up at people. She is simply not interested in doing so.

However, if someone refers to their dog as family then that has nothing to do with you.

My dog comes from a very healthy line that was specifically bred for health. He has zero health issues and is slimmer and a bit taller than a usual pug - as the breed was originally designed to be hundreds of years ago. It's one of the most ancient breeds of dog with the best temperament. I didn't just purchase a puppy on pets4homes. He came from a very responsible breeder who cares about the health of the breed.

It's up to cafe Nero if they let dogs on their furniture. Did a member of staff say anything?

So what. A leather sofa is a flayed cow's backside. They're tough.
