Just fucking sick of dogs

1000 replies

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 19:00

Sorry but I am. I was cycling home from
picking up DS from school with him on the back and a dog came running up beside
me snarling and snapping at my feet on the pedals. I nearly bloody went over but managed to keep my balance and get past it (electric bike). Owner called an apology and I just rode on as it was still off the lead and I was worried for DS.

This is a national cycling path and much used school route so there are always bikes and children 8-9 and 3-4.

A sausage dog decided to bolt towards my 2 year old last month in the park for no apparent reason and I had to scoop him
up to avoid contact.

And don’t get me started in the ‘oh he’s just being friendly’. I don’t want your fucking dog jumping on me or my children or scaring my kids when we are just going about our day.

They should ALL be on leads unless they are in a dog park/field.

I was enjoying a snack on a bench with my 16 month old in a park the other day and three dogs ran over to us, one jumped up on me and got mud all over my legs and another tried to eat the food I was sharing with my son. One owner just went "oh don't worry he is friendly" I said "yes but there is food here!" And he goes "I know!". The other owners were no where in sight to control their dogs. Honestly the fucking entitlement of these owners disgusts me. Get your fucking dog off me and out my face. Why don't I come smear mud all over you and spit on your fucking food.

That's fine if people only get rescues and use up the dogs we have.
It's the continual breeding of designer dogs that is the bigger problem.

People want more, we breed more
People want a particular cross, we breed it
People want a puppy, not an older dog, we breed it.

It sounds like you want dogs to die out.

I do.

kitsuneghost · 05/11/2023 20:14

Well as solely pets anyway

XenoBitch · 05/11/2023 20:16

kitsuneghost · 05/11/2023 20:14

I do.

Well, that will never happen.

And why dogs? Why not cats, birds, fish etc all the other animals kept as pets.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 05/11/2023 13:28

It’s the sheer number of them honestly as others have said hardly anyone had them, I was at school in the 90s and the only
people who had dogs were farmers and retired people now any Joe Public has them

i honestly think it should be made way way more difficult for people to have dogs, make it’s as inconvenient and prohibitively expensive as possible with proof of training and education on dog keeping and it’ll sort out the irresponsible from the responsible. Currently it’s far too easy and people get dogs don’t meet their needs, don’t pick up their shit let them cause a nuisance to others and treat them like babies. I think rescues have it right in how difficult they make it for people and with good reason

working dogs serve a purpose and are trained appropriately

as for cats I don’t think people should be allowed them unless they keep them in their own house or a catio to keep them
on their own property

Edited

You dont think people should have cats 🤣, really, watch the rat population double then. I have 3 cats (and a dog), my cats dont leave the back garden. Not because I have trained them not to, they just dont leave it. Yet you think I should keep them in the house ?. What do you proposebto do with all the healthy cats ?, put them down because you dont like. I do think however, that all cats (unless being used to breed), should be neutered, to many owners dont bother, and then they are over run with kittens.

All domestic animals except those kept for specific reasons other than pets.

Guide dogs
Drug dogs
Food etc...

Ylvamoon · 05/11/2023 20:21

@trythisforsize - your question should include ALL domesticated animals, not just dogs.

I think it's ok as long as the animal has a life that is compatible with their species and the traits we have selected for our benefits.
So yes, looking at the benefits of domestication (security, comfort, food source, transport,...) I think it's fair.

And interestingly, there are wild cormorants that help people with fishing, in return, they get a meal.
These birds choose that partnership in order to survive.

With dogs, something similar happened, they choose the partnership. We then went on to improve it through selecive breeding hence securing their survival. There isn't a need for dogs to survive in the wild, and if there was, some would fair better than others. But I do think dogs as a spices can survive without humans.

What happens to the dogs that begin training and don't make the grade?

So you'd deny the happiness and companionship that pets bring, including to lonely people such as elderly people who would otherwise be alone, or autistic people for whom a cat, dog or other pet can be a lifeline in a confusing and isolating world? ... Why? That's such an extreme viewpoint. It's ok to eat animals, but not ok to love them? It's completely incomprehensible to me.

So many puppies start training for these jobs and don’t make it, aren’t cut out for it. What should we do with these healthy dogs? Let them be pets as they are now? Or put them all down as your opinion seems to suggest?

Why not? We eat cow, sheep, rabbit, pigeon, even squirrel.
Why not make the most of resources.

  1. because they’re bred to be humans companions and more intelligent than most animals used for food (with the exception of pigs, but eating them doesn’t sit right with me either).
  2. because carnivores don’t taste good.
Pickle59 · 05/11/2023 21:01

I’m with you all the way. I’m sick of dogs and their entitled owners. not everyone loves dogs, some are terrified of them. keep them on a lead, off seats in cafes restaurants and trains and everyone will be happy. and i do love dogs by the way

Cormorant fishing? They are not wild - they are trained from tiny hatchlings and they are tethered.
This part of their slavery is pretty grim:

'' Before the cormorants are allowed in the water, fishermen tie cords around their necks – loose enough to allow them to swallow small fish, but tight enough to prevent larger fish from passing beyond the gullet. Once the bird catches a large fish, it instinctively returns to the boat or raft, where the fishermen remove it from their throat and compensates them for their efforts. ''

This post just makes me realise that whether you like dogs or not, and whether dogs like you or not is probably the best way of judging a persons character 😆

How?
Disliking dogs doesn’t make anyone a bad person for god sake.

GladWhere · 05/11/2023 21:45

I find lots of dog owners are either selfish or stupid over how annoying their dogs are.
There are plenty of great dog owners too.
My current annoyance is two neighbours that let their dogs out into their gardens and let them bark for ages and ages. It's so selfish of them.

There's a guy in West Bay who takes his 3 colourful parrots out for walks along the seafront! I'm so used to him, I didn't bat an eyelid when I read about your cockatoo going to the beach...😁

I saw a man taking his goats for a walk : )

Rehomed I imagine. Used to know someone who had a German shepherd who was a police reject. Huge old softy he was.

stopforabreak · 06/11/2023 12:15

Great post! Thank you for bring up the subject. Dogs can be free to run without a lead depending on the area, people, etc. Unfortunately, many dog owners use their dog as a weapon, barking, to target other people. They know fully, what it means. Once upon a time, we did not have this problem, now doggy world is becoming manic, almost like the owner. They fill a gap in the owner's world, which is missing from family/friends/partners.

Rosiedippy · 06/11/2023 12:19

The worst thing is the poo all along paths, parks and beauty spots have been taken over by dog owners and their possesions. It is definately about something missing in their lives for owners to be so obsessive.
It is good to care for animals but this is different level - yes agree - almost manic.
