Just fucking sick of dogs

1000 replies

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 19:00

Sorry but I am. I was cycling home from
picking up DS from school with him on the back and a dog came running up beside
me snarling and snapping at my feet on the pedals. I nearly bloody went over but managed to keep my balance and get past it (electric bike). Owner called an apology and I just rode on as it was still off the lead and I was worried for DS.

This is a national cycling path and much used school route so there are always bikes and children 8-9 and 3-4.

A sausage dog decided to bolt towards my 2 year old last month in the park for no apparent reason and I had to scoop him
up to avoid contact.

And don’t get me started in the ‘oh he’s just being friendly’. I don’t want your fucking dog jumping on me or my children or scaring my kids when we are just going about our day.

They should ALL be on leads unless they are in a dog park/field.

@Ohhelpicantthinkofaname

thanks Hun! 👍

You’re welcome. We all need to look out for each other.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 05/11/2023 13:28

It’s the sheer number of them honestly as others have said hardly anyone had them, I was at school in the 90s and the only
people who had dogs were farmers and retired people now any Joe Public has them

i honestly think it should be made way way more difficult for people to have dogs, make it’s as inconvenient and prohibitively expensive as possible with proof of training and education on dog keeping and it’ll sort out the irresponsible from the responsible. Currently it’s far too easy and people get dogs don’t meet their needs, don’t pick up their shit let them cause a nuisance to others and treat them like babies. I think rescues have it right in how difficult they make it for people and with good reason

working dogs serve a purpose and are trained appropriately

as for cats I don’t think people should be allowed them unless they keep them in their own house or a catio to keep them
on their own property

I believe mandatory licensing wouldn’t be a bad thing, compulsory training etc. but making it prohibitively expensive will just mean that good owners on lower incomes will be able excluded and rich people with no idea will just be able to buy their way in. That’s not really fair tbh.

Huntre · 05/11/2023 13:31

My view is that all dogs should be on leads in public places and I have one.

Deathwillbebutapause · 05/11/2023 13:00

What did these people do for kicks on a Friday and Saturday night before they started posting bilious hatred of dogs?

Walk through the park on oour way to a pub/cafe/restaurant

Children can be sued but can’t be made to pay damages if they’re under the age of 18. also parents have a responsibility to ensure they’re children behave correctly under a certain age. If that parent is negligent the blame still falls on them in the same way of a dog owner is negligent the blame falls on them. It’s not all that different. Except you can sue a child I guess, but you can’t actually make them pay anything, so is it really that different?

Technically yes dogs are their owners property. But they’re not property in the way a fridge is and there are laws around their welfare as they are recognised to sentient beings and not objects.

Animal welfare law places duties on humans. It does not give rights to pets.

A pet dog is not like a fridge, true. Fridges have good uses, do not bite people, do not shit on the pavement and do not bark for hours. A better comparison of a dog with an object would be with a gun: potentially dangerous and of no real purpose or justification except for professional users.

arkmatter · 05/11/2023 13:35

@Tredful Something has to happen about dogs off leads, and a change in the law before there's any more access. The state of the beaches was terrible during Covid and is still not good in holiday times. There is a lack of engaging in what being in a public space means for some. We are encouraged to think that someone else will come along and clear up and if it's public spaces (even if it's private spaces) then it's not down to the individual to care about others or any fallout that may occur is seen as not their fault. Think sheep worrying for eg.

kitsuneghost · 05/11/2023 13:36

Bobsleigh334 · 05/11/2023 12:56

Because they shouldn’t be left home alone for long periods of time, they need walking twice a day and many establishments in our area welcome them with open arms.

So you agree most people's lives aren't suitable for having pet dogs.
I wish most dog owners were as enlightened before buying their mutt.

It give the right to pets not to be abused by humans and is meant for their protection.

a dog is nothing like a gun. No guns are safe, they condo all be used to kill. Most dogs are safe, the dangerous ones are few and far between and when they are dangerous it is usually a human who is at fault.

WhileMyDishwasherGentlyWeeps · 05/11/2023 13:45

It give the right to pets not to be abused by humans and is meant for their protection.

No it doesn’t. In any case, a right has to be enforced by the rights holder. A dog cannot do that. It’s a silly argument to say that pets have rights in law.

The obligation, which is criminal, falls on the human person. There’s nothing else in animal welfare law. Nor could there be.

Yes. The person has the obligation not to abuse an animal. These laws are meant for the protection of animals, it makes no odds whether or not they’re the rights holder. People have an obligation not to abuse animals, thereby protecting those animals. Jeez.

Iamnotastick · 05/11/2023 13:50

Agree, I love dogs but I am sick of the dog shit everywhere and I am sick of CONSTANTLY having to scan the park at all the off lead dogs to assess which ones may be an issue.

I miss NYC where they are fenced off dog parks so they can run and shit away from everyone else.

LuckySantangelo35 · 05/11/2023 13:51

It’s the dog shit on pavements etc that I can’t stand

sooooooooooo gross 🤮

Yeah it is. People should pick up after their dogs. I don’t think anyone on here is suggesting that people should just let their dogs shit everywhere and then not clean it up.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 05/11/2023 13:53

I must be really lucky as local to me most people pick up their dog shit! In the local park there are special bins for dog shit and one park fenced off is moreorless a dog park.

Same here. I remember seeing a grand total of one woman not picking up her dog's poo in the last two years. And we are out and about a lot.

LuckySantangelo35 · 05/11/2023 13:56

Or the dreaded black bags filled with dog shit hung off a branch

gross too

Bobsleigh334 · 05/11/2023 13:57

I never see dog poo anywhere let alone everywhere and twice a day we’re where dogs mostly are. The worst I see is the odd poo full bag but that is rare.

Yep, people should put them in the bin. No one’s arguing about that either.

Yeah, it makes all the odds. You’ve said that dogs aren’t objects. They clearly are. They just happen to be living objects, like cats, hamsters, rats and mice.

RelationshipOrNot · 05/11/2023 14:00

It is odd to me how many people who dislike dogs adopt a tone which suggests they are just giving the facts, and that dog owners just have to deal with it, when that doesn't reflect reality at all. You can say stuff like "dogs are disgusting", "dogs should be on leads at all times", "people shouldn't have dogs as pets", "dogs shouldn't be in pubs" and so on all you like, but that's not going to change reality or make any dog owners decide to get rid of their dog. It's the strangeness of the tone I find so interesting, like they really believe they're stating self-evident facts and not (sometimes extremely unusual) opinions without any authority.

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 05/11/2023 14:01

No. They’re sentient being capable of feeling fear and pain. That’s why there’s laws that protect them from abuse by humans (whether they’re the rights holder or not these laws protect their welfare).

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 05/11/2023 14:02

And from your responses you clearly think that abusing animals is just fine as they’re only object. Somewhat concerning tbh.

Feduptryingusernames · 05/11/2023 14:04

I agree with this lady. Sick of dogs invading day to day life, leaving mess in kids playparks, owners expecting dogs to be treated like humans in restaurants.

We’ve just been for a walk. She gets us out in all weathers. Seeing her utter joy at racing through the bracken and woods and experiencing nature is so uplifting. You start to see the things they’re experiencing. She is so loving and mindful, not worried about past or present.Seeing how far she’s come in training, seeing the joy she gives other walkers who all stop and fuss her, seeing the love and excitement she gives my dd when we get home it’s priceless. She’s had a wash and is curled up on the sofa next to me sighing contentedly. She has simple wants and I love to see her so happy. She is so good for mental health.

No living thing is an object.

This. I say to people we should 'be more dog.'. Take pleasure in the little things. Ike a walk on a cold day, finding a great stick in the woods, playing fetch, not worrying about work, money, relationships, just enjoying the here and now.

It's well known they've excellent for mental health. Dogs force you to getup, dressed and out and to get daily exercise. People talk to you when you when you have a dog. They're great company, non judgemental and are so happy to see you when you get in. They are miles better than people.
