Just fucking sick of dogs

1000 replies

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 19:00

Sorry but I am. I was cycling home from
picking up DS from school with him on the back and a dog came running up beside
me snarling and snapping at my feet on the pedals. I nearly bloody went over but managed to keep my balance and get past it (electric bike). Owner called an apology and I just rode on as it was still off the lead and I was worried for DS.

This is a national cycling path and much used school route so there are always bikes and children 8-9 and 3-4.

A sausage dog decided to bolt towards my 2 year old last month in the park for no apparent reason and I had to scoop him
up to avoid contact.

And don’t get me started in the ‘oh he’s just being friendly’. I don’t want your fucking dog jumping on me or my children or scaring my kids when we are just going about our day.

They should ALL be on leads unless they are in a dog park/field.

What's 'amazing' about them?

Genuine question.

Dogs are used to fight crime, they find people who are lost or injured, they help people going out and about and they provide a little bit of joy and support to many people. And tats just your average police, search and rescue or therapy dog!

No other domestic animal can take so many roles and assist us humans in all different life situations.

Ther are even cancer deduction dogs... so what's not truly amazing about dogs?

But I agree, badly behaved dogs are a pain in the arse!

Tredful · 05/11/2023 12:48

Totally agree with you OP.

I'm absolutely sick to death of most dog owners.

We live on a farm and have 15 dogs. They are working dogs as well as pets and we also compete with them. Never are they or have they ever been allowed to race about in public harassing other people and their animals. They are our dogs and we have no right to inflict them on others.

Funny how we manage to keep 15 times as many dogs under control as all the local twats who can't seem to keep control of their one dog that they walk past our house every day.

Every bloody day, trying to walk or drive from our property and some dickface is either oblivious to where his/her dog is or screaming frantically at us to stop driving because they don't know where their dog is or can't catch it to put it on a lead.

Fucking sick to death of people who don't have enough sense to own a dog but own one anyway.

No. Not everyone wants your dog in their way/on their lap etc etc. Sick of them. Hope dog ownership is strictly licensed one day. Too many dog owners are absolute twats.

Bobsleigh334 · 05/11/2023 12:49

We’ve just been for a walk. She gets us out in all weathers. Seeing her utter joy at racing through the bracken and woods and experiencing nature is so uplifting. You start to see the things they’re experiencing. She is so loving and mindful, not worried about past or present.Seeing how far she’s come in training, seeing the joy she gives other walkers who all stop and fuss her, seeing the love and excitement she gives my dd when we get home it’s priceless. She’s had a wash and is curled up on the sofa next to me sighing contentedly. She has simple wants and I love to see her so happy. She is so good for mental health.

No living thing is an object.

vivainsomnia · 05/11/2023 12:49

Dogs are not humans. They should not be treated as such and afforded the same entitlements
The are and should be tested as their owners deem acceptable within the law, rules and good social standing. It's not for non dog owners to decide how other dogs should be treated.

It's the same every time. Those who are against dogs accusing dog lovers of being entitled when these threads show, over and over that it's those against dogs who act entitled wanting the majority of people to agree with them!

WhileMyDishwasherGentlyWeeps · 05/11/2023 12:46

Legally, dogs (and other animals) are basically objects. Strictly speaking they’re ‘chattels’ - property, not people.

I never understand why dog lovers get upset about others pointing out that dogs are just property and no more. Dog lovers are the ones who say ‘it’s always the owner, never the dog’, which legally is true because you can’t sue a dog…because it’s just property, like trying to sue a car or a knife or a gun. Objects, in other words.

But they’re not objects are they. They’re living creatures that humans are responsible for. Before the age of 10 parents are responsible for their children’s actions. Would you say that kids under 10 are objects? Of course not, that’s stupid. If dogs were objects there would be not laws around their welfare. You won’t get charged for being cruel to you tv now will you? 🤦‍♀️

Jewel52 · 05/11/2023 12:53

I think there’s a big difference between taking dogs places in summer when there are outdoor tables for eating. Being in a cafe etc in winter and munching on a sandwich whilst getting a waff of wet dog isn’t pleasant. So for every dog owner who puts money in that till, there’ll be just as many customers giving it the swerve

LuckySantangelo35 · 05/11/2023 12:54

all you dog lovers…
can anyone answer…
why your precious dog can’t be left at home rather than go to a cafe or pub with you?

vodkaredbullgirl · 05/11/2023 12:55

My dogs would prefer to stay at home than go shopping, eating out. The longest they have been left with anyone in the house, was 6 hours and they were both fine.

Bobsleigh334 · 05/11/2023 12:56

Because they shouldn’t be left home alone for long periods of time, they need walking twice a day and many establishments in our area welcome them with open arms.

BarneyAteMyHomework · 05/11/2023 12:57

I accept it’s businesses’ choice whether to allow dogs or not, but I do wish they’d make owners leave if the dogs aren’t being well-behaved.

In my local, fairly small, Caffè Nero today there were 4 dogs in at once. A huge Alsatian, beautifully trained, who just laid down and ignored everything. Another huge dog, not sure of the breed, who was lunging at all the tables to try and get to food - the owner just about managed to control it. A spaniel who was wandering around off-lead, sniffing at tables and barking at Big Dog 2. And a dachshund who wouldn’t stop barking at everything and everyone else. It was not exactly relaxing… Other than the Alsatian, I don’t think any of the dogs really should have been there but the owners of the smaller dogs clearly didn’t give a shit about the disruption (the owner of Big Dog 2 was at least trying)

I’d happily choose a decent non dog-friendly option, but there just isn’t one locally.

You’ve posted this exact question a few pages back. Do you have memory issues? Or are you struggling to read the responses. If it is memory issues have you been to the docs about it yet? Honestly getting a diagnosis and help with things was such a breakthrough for my MIL. Please don’t be afraid to go.

Well they had each other for company so it was tolerable for them. Different for a single dog.

arggggg · 05/11/2023 12:58

Agree!!! I get molested by dogs every time I walk in the woods. I have been told if I don’t like dogs I should not walk in the woods! They come up, paws & slathering mouth all over me, only to be told ‘he’s just being friendly’. Why should I have to put up with this? The phrase ‘he won’t hurt you’, said over & over. They don’t hurt, until they do… why is personal space log allowed?

Bobsleigh334 · 05/11/2023 12:59

I wouldn’t take her shopping but sometimes might need to run errands in town so would take her if nobody was at home or we were doing a walk after.

She loves all the dog friendly cafes and pubs we go to .Its often a good resting point on a walk and they often have water and jars of treats and plenty of other dogs for her to sniff and acknowledge on the way out or in.

I agree with this. People have a duty to make sure their charges (dogs or kids) behave in an appropriate way and are not bothering others.

Deathwillbebutapause · 05/11/2023 13:00

What did these people do for kicks on a Friday and Saturday night before they started posting bilious hatred of dogs?

Bobsleigh334 · 05/11/2023 13:00

It’s interesting. We walk our dog a lot and I have never ever had or seen a dog slobbering over and leaping over people. They just run past. 🤔

You must have some sort of peculiar magnetism for dogs. Most of the dogs I see walking in the woods don’t take any notice of me.

vivainsomnia · 05/11/2023 13:05

why your precious dog can’t be left at home rather than go to a cafe or pub with you?
Because I don't go out just to go to cafes and pubs. I go food shopping, to the gym, helping friend where having a dog is not helpful etc... My dog gets lonely very easily and this would lead to depression and bad behaviour. My OH are good at arranging our activities to fit around doggy it's the compromises we accepted when agreeing to have a dog, but if I can take her, especially if she's already had an hour or two alone that day I will.

Because....she truly loves it. Some dogs do, some don't. My dog is one who thrives on adventure, mental stimulation. Going out places is a real treat for her.

Because I often go to a cafe/pub before or after her long walk.

I don't take her every single time. I'm yet to accounter someone showing any sign they are not happy there.

vodkaredbullgirl · 05/11/2023 13:05

My dogs are too busy running around, to notice other people. We go to open spaces with fewer people, we live not to far from the countryside and hills.

Objects, in other words.

It's upsetting because it suggests it's ok to mistreat them, or strictly speaking, that it's not possible to mistreat them because they are objects. It's unpleasant to hear someone imply that about an animal which you love and know has feelings, physical and emotional.

Do you keep sausages in your pockets or something? I’ve never seen dogs constantly molesting someone in the way you describe. You must be very special.

You can sue a child. There’s not much point, but you can.

Children can sue but they need a ‘litigation friend’.

What you’re thinking of is the age of criminal responsibility. That’s social policy to avoid criminalising young children. But it’s an exception (limited by time) to the general rule: if you’re a human you can sue, be sued and be criminally responsible.

For a dog none of the above apply. Because a dog is not a person. It’s a human’s property.

Children can be sued but can’t be made to pay damages if they’re under the age of 18. also parents have a responsibility to ensure they’re children behave correctly under a certain age. If that parent is negligent the blame still falls on them in the same way of a dog owner is negligent the blame falls on them. It’s not all that different. Except you can sue a child I guess, but you can’t actually make them pay anything, so is it really that different?

Technically yes dogs are their owners property. But they’re not property in the way a fridge is and there are laws around their welfare as they are recognised to sentient beings and not objects.
