Just fucking sick of dogs

1000 replies

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 19:00

Sorry but I am. I was cycling home from
picking up DS from school with him on the back and a dog came running up beside
me snarling and snapping at my feet on the pedals. I nearly bloody went over but managed to keep my balance and get past it (electric bike). Owner called an apology and I just rode on as it was still off the lead and I was worried for DS.

This is a national cycling path and much used school route so there are always bikes and children 8-9 and 3-4.

A sausage dog decided to bolt towards my 2 year old last month in the park for no apparent reason and I had to scoop him
up to avoid contact.

And don’t get me started in the ‘oh he’s just being friendly’. I don’t want your fucking dog jumping on me or my children or scaring my kids when we are just going about our day.

They should ALL be on leads unless they are in a dog park/field.

The thing is I have a friend who is very allergic to dogs, she can't be in a room with them. The number of places she can go out to eat or for coffee is dwindling. An allergy which ten years ago just meant she didn't go to certain people's houses, is now meaning she is hyperviigilant all the time. Coffee shops are for people, not dogs.
It's not a particularly rare allergy either, but as far as I know (for the dogs vs kids crowd) there isn't a widespread medical allergy to human hair or skin.

We don't have to kill them all. We just need to stop breeding and they will die out naturally.

Because something has happened for hundreds of years does not make it a good thing.

Could you show us the research you’re basing your option on please? Because a lot of people who are very clued up on animal welfare own dogs.

Owning dogs is not cruel, unless of course you are cruel to them and refuse to give them what they need from life (this would include only being walked on a short lead for many dogs). dogs have been domesticated for thousands of years, choosing to be companions to humans. They’re happy with us, whatever you seem to oddly think.

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 05/11/2023 11:48

Sorry. Opinion.

Howbizarre22 · 05/11/2023 11:54

I hate ugly snarling brutish looking dogs like Staffies, Rottweilers and XL bullies. Why anyone would find these dogs appealing is beyond me. Usually chav types there I said it. Aggressive &horrible. Do they think their dogs make them look hard?? 🤣

Your response is all about what dogs do to benefit you. It is a selfishly motivated response.

If a dog is living it's natural life, as a pack animal, in the wild - tell me what is amazing about them?

The domestic dog doesn't live in the wild. It evolved as a companion to humans. Pet dogs are not wild animals which have been captured. They are happiest with people, having been with us for 30,000 years.

That must be annoying for your friend. I don’t know where people live that all the coffee shops actually in town allow dogs, they don’t round here. Maybe it’s a city issue? Where I live semi rurally it would be really unusual to see dogs in shops/cafes in town. Very few people take their dogs to town and why would they? There are country walks near by with nice pubs that are dog friendly.

You don't get it do you
Owning domestic animals IS cruel whether you take them out or not

Ask yourself WHY you got one. (I love dogs is not an answer (I love tigers)). The primary reason is very likely to include me, me, me.

Dogs are a domesticated species. They love living with humans. They are not comparable to wild animals. I can assure you that my dog is not pining for the fjords, and if I set her "free", her survival strategy would be finding more people. They have been our companions for 30,000 years.

My poor dog would HATE to live in the wild! He doesn't even like the cold let alone rain ☔️ and (heaven forbid) snow ❄️ He prefers snoozing on the electric blanket cuddled up to a human on the sofa 😂 He really wouldn't make it in the wild.

Awww that’s mean, my friend has a lovely little staffie, very sweet natured and well behaved. Every rottie I’ve ever met has been a big softie too. Judging living creatures based on looks alone is a bit of a character flaw really.

it true kids do need to be out in public. But people also need to realise that not everyone finds your kids cute and funny. Out for dinner a few weeks ago. 2 families out together with 4 kids and a baby between them. No awareness of how their kids behaviour was affecting others. Kids running around screaming, dragging cushions onto the floor to make a giant pile in the middle of a walk way where they all sat being loud and annoying. Tripping up passing waiting staff on more than one occasions. Nice middle class looking parents just smiled on indulgently as their kids were an absolute nuisance.

on the flip side the couple of dogs in the pub (country put which welcomes dogs) sat under tables behaving themselves and causing no issues at all. I did not witness any bad behaviour from them. Just these irritating kids and their brain dead parents thinking their behaviour was cute. You could see the staff getting annoyed.

but just like with dog owners there decent ones who are aware how their kids behaviour affects others. Another family with similar aged kids ensured their kids behaved appropriately for that setting. So just because some parents are stupid and inconsiderate, doesn’t mean all parents are and kids should be banned from everywhere. Exactly like dog owners. Decent owners shouldn’t be punished or held in contempt just because people have algae a bad experience with poorly trained dogs with idiot owners.

I disagree. Your dog doesn't belong in a cafe or pub or shopping centre. There's no need.

A pub in the middle of a forest where people go to walk their dogs and the pub owners like dogs and encourage them in. Where my dog caused no bother and was made a fuss of by the staff. Yeah, totally didn’t belong there did they. Unless it’s your pub your hatred counts for nowt.

Mine neither! She much prefers being indoors in bad weather. I definitely haven't cooped up a wolf.

No, it's the dogs. She hasn't seen my nephews much in their lives either and they're late teens now as she cannot leave her dogs.

Thanks for the incredibly bitchy comment though. I hope it made you feel good.

Thankfully pub owners etc disagree with you and want the regular cash dog owners bring. No way would we leave our dog for hours home alone so we pick dog friendly pubs or cafes which most are now near us with plenty of well behaved dogs in all. We have a walk, have lunch and walk back. We take her into town, everywhere really. If we couldn’t we’d shop online and just go for a walk without going to the pub or cafe. They want our custom. Happy days all round.

Your dirty dog counts for nowt. It isn't a person. It's an object.

It hasn't 'evolved' to be a companion animal. Humans bred them to suit our own wants and needs.

Let's put this another way than, as people seem reluctant to just answer the question:

What is amazing about pet dogs that is unrelated to their benefit to humans?

Could you explain what the purpose of a comment like this is? Do you think the poster will suddenly be convinced and stop loving their dog?

Bobsleigh334 · 05/11/2023 12:37

You would literally be nuts not to go dog friendly now. When we travel away from home, we just search dog friendly pubs/ cafes. Wouldn’t look at non dog friendly establishments. So many people own dogs now it’s a big money difference. Locally it’s dog owners who are out rain or shine so will literally be the ones keeping places afloat.

I’d never had a dog until recently. They bring so so much to life I can see why they are so popular.

Wild dogs are not comparable to domesticated dogs. It’s actually the natural life of domesticated dogs to live/work with humans.

Well what a lovely charming person you are. I hope you don’t have pets or kids, I’d be seriously concerned for them if you do.

just remember that everyone has to coexist in this world. Everyone has an obligation to behave in an appropriate way for that setting, but you do not get to make the rules about someone else’s business. If an establishment chooses to allow dogs then people can take their dogs. If you hate dogs so much you can be around them by all means avoid that place. But don’t hate on others for taking their dogs to places they’re allowed to be.

It wasn’t a one way process. Wolves with more social genes realised they could get something out of hanging around humans in return for guarding, helping to hunt etc.

The shear joy they get out of chasing a ball around a field, their obvious delight at a new toy, they way they enjoy the simple things. Dogs and owners make each other happy. It’s a reciprocal relationship.

Legally, dogs (and other animals) are basically objects. Strictly speaking they’re ‘chattels’ - property, not people.

I never understand why dog lovers get upset about others pointing out that dogs are just property and no more. Dog lovers are the ones who say ‘it’s always the owner, never the dog’, which legally is true because you can’t sue a dog…because it’s just property, like trying to sue a car or a knife or a gun. Objects, in other words.
