Just fucking sick of dogs

1000 replies

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 19:00

Sorry but I am. I was cycling home from
picking up DS from school with him on the back and a dog came running up beside
me snarling and snapping at my feet on the pedals. I nearly bloody went over but managed to keep my balance and get past it (electric bike). Owner called an apology and I just rode on as it was still off the lead and I was worried for DS.

This is a national cycling path and much used school route so there are always bikes and children 8-9 and 3-4.

A sausage dog decided to bolt towards my 2 year old last month in the park for no apparent reason and I had to scoop him
up to avoid contact.

And don’t get me started in the ‘oh he’s just being friendly’. I don’t want your fucking dog jumping on me or my children or scaring my kids when we are just going about our day.

They should ALL be on leads unless they are in a dog park/field.

We flew up to Edinburgh on Friday night. There was an assistance dog on the plane. He hadn’t been on a plane before but he caused no issues at all. Lovely dog, lots of ooohing and aaahing from passengers including me.

all you dog lovers…
can anyone answer…
why your precious dog can’t be left at home rather than go to a cafe or pub with you?

Because the pub I was talking about is in the middle of an area where people go to walk their dogs and they actively encourage them in, so I was doing no wrong and remember your hatred is your problem, not mine.

im not someone who takes my dog around shops or out to coffee unless it’s part of a walk and in a dog friendly place. I’ve also spent a lot of time training my dogs to behave themselves. Please reserve your contempt for someone else. Many thanks.

We’re allowed to be wary about sharks, lions etc because they all bite
Yet the second someone mentions being anxious around a dog, which also can bite, there’s a race to who can iron out the fear quicker, people are allowed to dislike an animal. Not everyone has to love your shit machine as much as you do 🤦🏼‍♀️

Have you heard yourself? You're talking about wild animals, canines & domestic cats aren't actually wild, they're domestic. That's different.
A bit of a silly comparison.

And because actually it's unkind to leave a domestic pet at home for hours on end. Because when we get them they are part of the family. And this is why we take them out with us. Everywhere.
Companies recognise the value in allowing dogs in settings, this isn't going to change , not for a few haters.

NB when someone hates unnecessarily on a dog, this tells me all I need to know about that person

Daphnis156 · 05/11/2023 10:37

So a dachshund ran towards your child?

Hardly life threatening.

Or could there be another reason with your attitude?

"accidentally kicked (the dog)"
Sounds highly suspicious

Exactly. I’m not going for a walk in the forest and leaving my dog at home. How mean would that be!! We take on our pets and have a duty to provide them with a decent life. People thinking dogs should be left cooped up at home have a questionable moral compass IME.

KimberleyClark · 05/11/2023 10:40

Dogs are social animals. Dogs and their owners are a team as far as the dog is concerned. They don’t really enjoy being left alone though they adapt to it.

You don't get it do you
Owning domestic animals IS cruel whether you take them out or not

Ask yourself WHY you got one. (I love dogs is not an answer (I love tigers)). The primary reason is very likely to include me, me, me.

I’d probably go and tell Chris packham he’s committing animal cruelty by owning dogs. I’m going to guess he’s a little more clued up on it than you are.

Do you known how long dogs have been domesticated for? Hundreds of years, you cannot now undomesticate them. You cannot undo this.
Whether you like it or not or have some weird fantasy that all dogs & domestic pets should just live in the wild, it's not going to happen I'm afraid. Because I don't know what world you live in, but the one everyone else lives in there are laws that not only protect pets from being left in the wild - which would imply abandonment & is illegal, but also to treat them well - this is underlined by legally binding guidance.
So whatever reason you think people introduce dogs into their lives, it doesn't actually matter because once they have them there's a clear responsibility to make sure they are looked after.
Do you have the same attitude to people who have children? They just get them for their own reasons? Just wondering.

Sick of people who hate on innocent animals for their own selfish reasons.

Nicotheboy · 05/11/2023 10:54

YANBU. Oh boy this is a real cage rattler. But whilst we’re all here and arguing I’ll throw my opinion on the bonfire. It is Guy Fawkes’ after all. There are far too many bad dogs out there for me to trust any of them. Sorry responsible dog owners (minority), you’re tarred with the same brush. Now keep your dog under control and away from me, pick up its shit and don’t allow it to bark endlessly on a lovely sunny November morning. Thank you 😈

We don't have to kill them all. We just need to stop breeding and they will die out naturally.

Because something has happened for hundreds of years does not make it a good thing.

ScotchPine · 05/11/2023 10:58

@kitsuneghost I got mine because I knew I could
give them a much better life and much more love and happiness than they would get languishing in the rescue centre where we’ve always got them from. Of course there’s a selfish element, but I genuinely think their lives are better with us than they would have been if we hadn’t bothered.

EverybodyLTB · 05/11/2023 11:00

I’m sick of dogs (and cats) and I say that as a dog owner who also really likes cats. They’re everywhere, they piss and shit everywhere, and in so many cases are completely out of control. My neighbour’s dog barks and howls constantly, and the other side and opposite have cats that shit in my garden.

My dog is very well trained and has fantastic recall, and I use that training and recall to make sure he doesn’t impact others in any way. How people think it’s ok to let their dogs roam free, harassing people, potentially frightening and attacking people, using the place as a toilet, it’s just beyond my comprehension.

In my local area, we use lots of different parks with lots of different regular walkers - I can think of maximum about 2/3 other owners who have full control of their dogs. We have people round here with viscous dachshunds, snappy Jack Russells, boisterous XL bully’s and everything in between. They are off lead around children, public areas, other dogs etc and the owners just shrug or laugh off their dogs’ behaviour. It’s getting to a point where I go to the park with my dog and turn round and go to another one when I see certain owners.

People should have licenses, and again I say that as a dog owner. I’d have no qualms about applying for a license and committing to mandatory training.

It’s at least 30,000 years ago that dogs were first domesticated.

I was at my GP surgery one day, with my 3 yr old having a sensory overload lieing on the floor by the entrance doors,as I was leaning over her talking to my child doors opened and there was a guy with one of the bully kind of dogs big mass on muscle and jaws and about 3/4yr old girl, guy saw me looked at his dog realised he cant take him in-then held out the leash towards his daughter and said there you hold onto him-my jaw dropped,i probably showed horror on my faceand i was about to scoop up my daughter there was no way a child can control that dog. Guy probably read off my face how stupid his idea was took the leash back and walked away.

You’re directing your anger in the wrong place, it’s not the dog it’s the owner. Dogs are amazing!

What's 'amazing' about them?

Genuine question.

WhileMyDishwasherGentlyWeeps · 05/11/2023 11:22

DiscoDee · 05/11/2023 06:58

It’s when people compare them to human children, my eyes can’t roll enough. Ridiculous.

There are numerous reasons why people complain on here about dogs: scaring children (and adults); being out of control; pestering walkers, joggers and cyclists; ruining visits to pubs, cafes and restaurants; endless barking; shit on the streets and in parks; allergies; dog attacks experienced by posters and known from reports (sadly some fatal or so bad they are life changing); etc, etc. They’re all perfectly good objections.

But some pet dog owners just repeat the same, lame crap each time: ‘my dog doesn’t need a leash’; ‘I’m not muzzling my dog, it’s a straitjacket’, ‘there are no bad dogs, only bad owners’, ‘bans don’t work’, ‘dogs have been companions for millennia’, ‘it’s your responsibility to know how to behave around my dog’, ‘don’t go where dogs go’, and so on.

Basically, some pet dog owners will object to anything that makes their little hobby more difficult, and sod everyone else.

The most obnoxious justification by dog owners, though, is the comparison of dogs with children. Some of them seem genuinely unable to see how stupid and de-humanising that is.

I’ve never seen a dog in Starbucks. We have a Starbucks right next to the vets so if they were allowed surely they would be in that one, but no, never seen one in there ever.

the crux of this argument is that if you get a dog you should train it so it is not a bother to others. If that can’t be done you should keep in on a lead in public.

people who don’t like dog need to realise that your fear and dislike is just that YOURs and it’s not the responsibility of dog owners to pander to your whims so long as they’re keeping their end of the deal and controlling their dog.

people and dogs should be able to go exist peacefully. Some owners are crappy and some people who dislike dogs massively over react making situations far more dramatic than they needed to be. Owners should keep their dogs away from kids and parents should keep their kids away from dogs. It’s not that hard.

Im not lying. Why would I?

Not to mention this Starbucks is in an out of town shopping villlage. Why the hell a responsible owner would take their dog there is beyond me, but it just shows how little some people who "love their dogs" actually don't care what is best for their dogs.

This exactly. It's nice to sit down and have a drink after a long dog walk. I don't take my dog shopping, but will go for a dog walk with a trip to a dog friendly pub at the end. 99% of the time she will chill out under a table and you won't know she's there, but will occasionally come out for a fuss and/or a treat. We've had many occasions where we're leaving and people have said "oh I didn’t notice your dog."

You know the more I see threads like this, the more I prefer my dog to people.

DiscoDee · 05/11/2023 11:34

I’m on your side you numpty! I’m saying people are correct to complain about dogs.

trythisforsize · 05/11/2023 11:35

Your response is all about what dogs do to benefit you. It is a selfishly motivated response.

If a dog is living it's natural life, as a pack animal, in the wild - tell me what is amazing about them?
