Just fucking sick of dogs

1000 replies

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 19:00

Sorry but I am. I was cycling home from
picking up DS from school with him on the back and a dog came running up beside
me snarling and snapping at my feet on the pedals. I nearly bloody went over but managed to keep my balance and get past it (electric bike). Owner called an apology and I just rode on as it was still off the lead and I was worried for DS.

This is a national cycling path and much used school route so there are always bikes and children 8-9 and 3-4.

A sausage dog decided to bolt towards my 2 year old last month in the park for no apparent reason and I had to scoop him
up to avoid contact.

And don’t get me started in the ‘oh he’s just being friendly’. I don’t want your fucking dog jumping on me or my children or scaring my kids when we are just going about our day.

They should ALL be on leads unless they are in a dog park/field.

Because you are in a public park, and other members of the public have no idea whether your dog is trained or not. Seeing a dog off the lead when I am out with my kids means I have to be extra vigilant to ensure they aren’t knocked over etc. I wouldn’t have to be vigilant if your dog was on a lead and it would be a much more pleasant experience for us and other park users.

I think all public parks will be lead only in the future. It will make going to the park and exercising a much more relaxing experience. If you want a dog, get a house with a garden big enough to exercise it in. Don’t expect other members of the public to have to endure your lifestyle choices.

I’m the nicest possible way, your fear is not my responsibility. My responsibility is to train my dog so she doesn’t bother people. I’ve done that.

Mummadeze · 04/11/2023 20:29

@XenoBitch I do also think that about men to be fair. Lol. I know there are nice dogs and useful dogs really. I have just had so many bad experiences with them, I have been really put off. I was attacked by a Rottweiler in my teens and my sister was attacked by a pack of dogs when she was young. I also got bitten by a friend’s dog. And I am allergic to animals.

Tiredandhungryneedwine · 04/11/2023 20:35

Agree, I am the owner of a dog (rescued and permanently injured) and god I hear you. The whole landscape of dog ownership has changed

I am afraid we are seeing the fallout from lockdown ownership. Many people who had never previously considered getting a dog got one. So these are people who have likely not grown up with dogs and therefore don’t understand basic etiquette. Add the usual dose of entitlement one sees too often and it’s a bit of a recipe for disaster/minefield. I no longer enjoy taking my dog out and yep as a mum and dog owner I completely agree about the general lack of control and accountability.
Also this surge has had a huge impact on general animal welfare re irresponsible and unethical breeding.

Buttons1983 · 04/11/2023 20:38

I love dogs,But totally understand your remarks,All dogs should be on a lead not everyone likes dogs, bad owners,l don't allow my dogs off lead for their safety and other peoples, mine are both medium size but can still scare people especially children.

You instantly lose the argument when you have to resort to comparing dogs to kids. Dogs are animals. Kids are not.

😄😄😄 You must be fun at parties

Probably more fun than you and your dog.

Gingernan · 04/11/2023 20:44

There are no bad dogs only bad owners. And I've never been a 'dog person' .
Give me a dog any day over people who mistreat their animals, especially the neighbours who scared my cat away with fireworks when she popped outside for a wee.
And I'm bored with people who swear.

We’re all animals, just one is the dominant species and the other subservient. Having Kids or dogs are both lifestyle choices so are comparable in that sense.

CWigtownshire · 04/11/2023 20:51

I agree, really struggling to find a nice restaurant that doesn't allow dogs in. I can't stand the smell (owners have gone nose blind ) and it puts me off my meal that I'm paying good money for. Don't even get me started on the barking in cafes/restaurants and the dog shit all over the pavements. I have walked out of cafes before because of the smell of dogs - owner's reaction is that they'll lose business if dogs not allowed in but they've lost my business and I'm sure many others because of this.

AnnabelC · 04/11/2023 20:51

I am getting more and more scared of dogs, when I walk my dog. She has been bitten by other dogs 3 times now. She is well trained and never retaliates, never goes up to anybody without being invited. So I hear you.

I completely be agree with you!
Just reminded me of an incident recently where I arrived to meet with friends a bit early. I was sat on the clifftop on a wooden bench. I was looking around for my friends and saw a youngish man pushing a pram, with woman and dog kind of inexplicably close behind my bench. I tried to turn round enough to see what they were doing. THEY WERE LETTING THE DOG PISS ON THE BENCH I WAS SITTING ON!
By the time I'd realised what had happened they were too far away and I watched as the man lifted the dog into (what I had assumed was) a baby's pram.
Revolting, entitled people.

Blimey that's grim🤢

PoloMintRoll · 04/11/2023 21:21

Yanbu, it would be better if there was a dog license, make it quite pricey too, to cover the cost of dog wardens and dog bites that the NHS has to deal with.

Desperatelyseekingc · 04/11/2023 21:32

I 100% agree with you. It’s the comparison to humans that angers me. I don’t let a random
man come sniffing me and licking me on the road so why would I be okay with your strange dog doing that.

Off lead at the park is still a problem. I was bitten at the back of my thigh going for my morning run in the park. The owner was just saying don’t worry, it doesn’t bi.. ; the dog doubled back and bit me before the owner got to the word bite.
We all don’t all have to like dogs. I had to go
to get the bite treated at the hospital. Police got involved. Now am even more petrified of dogs.

I totally agree that dogs should not be out of control in public spaces and there are many issues with some owners not picking up after their dogs etc.

What I don’t get is this moaning about cafes and restaurants. There are so many places to choose from, why go somewhere that you know allows dogs and then moan about it on the internet?

I like Pizza Express, but I know it’s also popular with families with children. So if I want a quiet meal I don’t go there. Lots of pubs show live sports so if I want to drink my pint in peace I don’t go there during big games.

Why would you patronise a place that you know doesn’t meet your requirements and then moan about it on the internet? 🤯

CWigtownshire · 04/11/2023 21:40

Paintballmaker - I live in a rural area, choices for eating out are few and far between - there are none with an hours drive that do not allow dogs. Not a case of knowingly going when there are alternatives - there are no alternatives!!

Noangelbuthavingfun · 04/11/2023 21:40

God you sound like life is stressful and a bore ! It's unfortunate a dog was running loose beside you - but putting that incident aside... its good for your kids to be exposed to friendly dogs or do u want them to be scared ? And a sausage dog...? Cmon...loosen up a bit you might even enjoy interacting with a cute dog once in a while

Where I live there are several parks within walking distance. All but one have cafes. All of those allow dogs.

Now I'm not too bothered by dogs in cafes really, I don't tend to sit close enough or long enough for my allergies to kick in. In fact I do find the children more anxiety provoking if I have hot condiments in my hands, but essentially I have no ability to go for a stroll to the local park and have a coffee or a breakfast or lunch without the presence of dogs.

So those are the cafes inside the parks.

Now around the parks and into town are quite a few more cafes, and all of those allow dogs too.

So you're inundated with dogs on the street, in the park, in the park cafes, in the cafes in the town, and quite often in the local shops and pubs too. This leaves you with places like McDonald's where you can perhaps grab a coffee without dog exposure.

“If you really want to be free of dogs off lead, you really need to be on the road, not shared spaces”

Wait, what?! You’re telling me that your dog’s need for shared spaces takes priority over mine?

No. I think all users need to be considerate of each other, and if you can't, you shouldn't use them.

Brodie13 · 04/11/2023 22:00

I’m a dog owner and a dog lover and I agree with you about the one on the cycle path but I think two sausage dogs running up to you and you scooping your child up is the completely wrong way to go about it. I really dislike when parents do this as it is teaching your child that they have something to be scared of!
We are so lucky to have dogs!

@crazyaginglady this is just ridiculous. Sausage dogs are tiny. Sounds like you are projecting your 'dog phobia' on to your two year old. My two year olds would have been delighted if a tiny dog had coming running towards them. Get over yourself.
