Just fucking sick of dogs

1000 replies

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 19:00

Sorry but I am. I was cycling home from
picking up DS from school with him on the back and a dog came running up beside
me snarling and snapping at my feet on the pedals. I nearly bloody went over but managed to keep my balance and get past it (electric bike). Owner called an apology and I just rode on as it was still off the lead and I was worried for DS.

This is a national cycling path and much used school route so there are always bikes and children 8-9 and 3-4.

A sausage dog decided to bolt towards my 2 year old last month in the park for no apparent reason and I had to scoop him
up to avoid contact.

And don’t get me started in the ‘oh he’s just being friendly’. I don’t want your fucking dog jumping on me or my children or scaring my kids when we are just going about our day.

They should ALL be on leads unless they are in a dog park/field.

YANBU. I can’t stand dogs or their entitled owners.

If I find out someone has a dog that’s a sure fire way to end any further relations. Can’t be doing with that.

Spidey66 · 04/11/2023 14:01

😴
The amount of dog haters on MN is weird. There's at least 3 threads a week complaining about them. I take my dog to the park daily and left her off lead. I call her when cyclists are getting near and she responds well. My dog is an energetic collie and she needs to be let of lead to have a good run, it;s her breed to need lots of exercise.

OTOH I'm also cycle but when cycling in parks etc I go slow because as well as dogs there are also children, (often on bikes or playing with balls) joggers (often with ear buds in) etc etc and I do my best to be share spaces carefully.

If you really want to be free of dogs off lead, you really need to be on the road, not shared spaces.

I like dogs. I know and love some brilliant ones. But there are 2 million more dogs in the UK than there were in 2011 (PDSA report 2022), and I personally can really notice the increase.

I'm sick of every country park, beach, footpath, bridleway and cycle path feeling like bloody Crufts ALL THE TIME. And now you can't even escape the fuckers (and their feckless owners) indoors either!

I like dogs too… but agree they are everywhere now. I went into COS last weekend and there was a golden retriever in there - friendly looking dog, wagging his tail all over the dresses. No way am I going to spend £150 on a new dress with dog hair on it! Has put me off shopping there. Also went into Whistles a few months ago and saw a bulldog dribble into a shoe on display. I pointed it out to the owner (politely) and she thought it was funny/endearing 🙄 I gave the shoe to the shop assistant - didn’t think it would be very nice for anyone to put their foot in that 🤮

Wellyrambles · 04/11/2023 14:04

We got the Covid lockdown puppy. Wasn't my idea but I was out voted.

So we now have a needy 3 year old dog that can't be left alone longer than 4 hrs. Dog boarders are like gold dust, you have to book a year in advance nearly so bang goes any spontaneous holidays - that's why you see them on beaches and restaurants by the way , owners have realised that you can't have a holiday without taking them with you.

Dog walkers are springing up everywhere, people are packing in much needed jobs to be licenced or unlicensed dog walkers. Pubs and cafes can't get staff? yeah they've all become dog walkers.

It must be really shit to not be a dog owner now. they are everywhere, pubs, cafes , beaches..even saw someone walking one round a supermarket the other day.

Obviously all these people don't know how to train or look after them properly now either, hence the rise in bad dog behaviour. They were never ' dog' people, but little Archie needed cheering up in lockdown.

The entitlement! Just sums up the majority of dog owners to me.

BalloonSalesperson · 04/11/2023 14:15

If dog owners want to eat or drink with their dog at their feet they should open their own doggie cafe, where non dog owners arenotwelcome, and we wouldn't go near them either, at least I wouldn't

There's a small cafe in my town that has a couple of tables at the end where dogs are allowed. The cafe was full, and the tables were occupied by people without dogs. Two women came in with their dogs and actually asked them to move because "These tables are for dogs"

No. All the tables are for human customers. If you want to bring your dog in then you have to sit at these tables, away from the others.

You couldn't make it up. Needless to say they lost their case.

MintJulia · 04/11/2023 14:19

I'm with you OP. I like dogs, we're a farming family and our dogs are working dogs. But pet dogs are everywhere, in parks and town centres, peeing, pooing and generally running amok. And in eating places. 😦What the hell for?

They are expensive to keep if they don't pay for themselves. How can anyone grumble about being poor when they are feeding a completely unnecessary extra mouth, and paying absurd amounts of insurance for the pleasure? I don't get it.

Surely it’s also entitled to use shared spaces and then moan about others using them just because you don’t like what they’re using them for? Dog owners are generally happy to share those spaces, it’s the people who dislike dogs that have the issue. If you’re the one with the issue then surely it’s up to you to change your behaviour to solve the issue 🤷‍♀️

SuperBored · 04/11/2023 14:29

I have a relative that makes me stand outside and pet their dog before I go inside. I do not want to pet their dogs ☹️
Also recent encounter with a vvvvv inconsiderate dog walker.
I have no problem with dogs that trot on by me without so much as more than a glance in my direction.
I do object when owners let their dogs bound off way in front of them towards a group of people that when they see said dog bounding towards them, move to the side of the track and turn away from the dog and as the dog comes up to us is yelping and jumping at us...I call the owner (who has other dogs with her that are by her side) to recall her dog as she slowly saunters towards us, she ignored me the first time I shout for her to recall the dog...the second time she did, dog went back to her, turned round and bounded back towards us yelping again. I shouted again and she recalled the dog but she had pretty much walked up to us at this point and said 'oh he won't hurt you'
I was so angry at her absolute ignorance of the situation that I yelled at her 'no you think he won't hurt anyone, I don't know that and nor do they! I shouldn't have to ask you 3 times to recall your dog'
Absolute insensitive cow.

shockthemonkey · 04/11/2023 14:36

What’s a “national cycling path”?

Anyway, I sometimes get fed up with irresponsible dog owners and since they have been growing in number, YANBU, kind of - but with misplaced blame

Livelovebehappy · 04/11/2023 14:39

Bingsbongs · 04/11/2023 05:22

i agree all dogs should be in the public on the leads

we have gone to the park and one fool had his 2 dogs off the leash who ate my childrens breads that they were feeding ducks with and scared the ducks away, the owner just stands there and says sorry i have to wait till shes finished eating.. and when she finishes eating she chased around my autistic child whos scared of dogs,i also had a baby and a toddler with me and dog was making my autistic daughter run away other direction chasing her

then the dogs that come up jump, bark, sniff around bottom area, lick etc- its so bizarre that its expected that a stranger has to tolerate their space being invaded

You actually let dogs lick and sniff your arse? That's on you then for standing there and letting them do it. .......

DysonSphere · 04/11/2023 14:42

I think licensing needs to be brought back in. Paid licensing with mandatory training and reassessment every so many years. That would weed out bad pet owners and cut down on people breeding for profit.

Also with regards to owning pets, it's interesting that my Aunt acquired a cat from a shelter, and they came and inspected her house and garden to see if it was adequate and asked her lifestyle questions. I know the same thing happens for rehoming dogs. I don't see why the same sort of vetting doesn't happen before you purchase new pets.

Sounds to me like the thick irresponsible dog owners that let their dogs lick and sniff people. Kind of hard to stop poorly trained out of control dogs, Especially if you are focused on other things or have kids to keep the dog away from too.

The responsibility for keeping a dog under control lies soley with the owner. If your dogs off shoving their nose at people or jumping at people it’s you as an owner who’s fucked up. No one else: so stop making it sound like random people without dogs are weird because other dogs owners pets are out of control. P

And compulsory insurance. If your fur baby bites someone or damages property there is an insurance company to pay out when you're sued.

We’re allowed to be wary about sharks, lions etc because they all bite
Yet the second someone mentions being anxious around a dog, which also can bite, there’s a race to who can iron out the fear quicker, people are allowed to dislike an animal. Not everyone has to love your shit machine as much as you do 🤦🏼‍♀️

Totally agree.

There's some sort of collective madness around dogs so if you say you don't like them or are a bit afraid of them, you must seek professional help immediately as it will ruin your life. No, what ruins peoples lives is the relentless shit ownership of dogs making it impossible to enjoy outdoors spaces anymore.

And if you say you hate cats, spiders, snakes, rodents.....everyone just nods sagely and leaves you alone and it's far more acceptable and understandable.

The world has gone crazy with dogs and this thread is largely full of dog owners who agree (and the ones that don't are so obviously in the shit dog owner gang)

No @XelaM love between humans make a house a home.

A dog may or may not be part of that home.

This is unkind. For a lot of people, their pet is all they have. I've been in that position and she definitely made my lonely house feel like a home. It makes me sad to think that people look at us out in public and think my dog is just a disgusting creature when she has brought so much love and hope into my life at times when things have been really dark. And I don't mean people reasonably objecting to bad behaviour - it's clear that plenty of people on here think that dogs are inherently disgusting and are annoyed just to see them.

Farmer locally had a Labradoodle chase his cattle about.
His own Border Collies are beautifully behaved-
He had to kick the Labradoodle hard to get it off - the jaw broke.
Doodle owners outraged.

Could’t sue!

What about damage to his cattle?
Dog owners have been using his fields since covid dog boom.

He’s not happy.
Don't blame him!

I inherently think dogs are disgusting.

However - I wouldn’t actually say that to you though…unless you allowed your dog into my personal space. If you were a friend I’d make a fuss of the dog because it is important to you and I’d recognise the value it has for you, even if I didn’t hold the same opinion of dogs.

You really shouldn’t worry about other peoples thought on dogs as I am sure their thought will have no impact on you so long as your dog doesn’t negatively impact on them. It’s lovely your dog brings joy to you….it doesn’t matter if others don’t share the same feelings about dogs does it?

oakleaffy · 04/11/2023 14:56

@RelationshipOrNot I’m like you in that I love my dog and she’s great company since DS left home

  • BUT probably like yours, she is well trained and I make sure she isn’t an inconvenience to others.
I don’t get upset if people dislike dogs- It’s because of so many badly behaved ones that this is now a problem..
XenoBitch · 04/11/2023 15:12

Oh look, yet another dog hating thread.
It has descended from being annoyed about dogs chasing cyclists to crap such as....

Saying a single person living alone with a dog will only ever be in a house, and not a home. What crap.
Comparing a dog eating off the floor in a pub to smoking in public. BTW, a lot of dog friendly places offer treats to visiting dogs
Saying that a dog gets a heroes welcome in a pub. Well, maybe that is because the dog is well liked in that pub.
Comparing domesticated animals to lions and sharks
That low income people are not allowed to complain about the rising costs of pet food etc, and that their dog is "unnecessary"

Look, you can not like dogs, and that is fine.. But all the vitriol that comes out in these threads just gets bizarre and plain nasty.

I am on a low income, I live alone with my dog. She is the reason I am still here (I have MH issues). She gives me purpose and a reason to get up and out. My house is very much a home with her in it. She does not drool, eat shit, chase kids, piss in shops etc. She comes to the pub/cafe with me and enjoys any fuss offered, and keeps herself to herself.

Yet, I am considered entitled, disgusting etc for the audacity of having a dog and taking her outside my house.

Come on.... I actually think the poster I responded to meant dogs licking and smelling each others arses, not people. I was kind of being sarcastic. Have you ever heard of, or seen, someone with their arse out in a public place? But you let your frothing at the mouth hatred of fogs cloud what I'm actually saying....
