Just fucking sick of dogs

1000 replies

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 19:00

Sorry but I am. I was cycling home from
picking up DS from school with him on the back and a dog came running up beside
me snarling and snapping at my feet on the pedals. I nearly bloody went over but managed to keep my balance and get past it (electric bike). Owner called an apology and I just rode on as it was still off the lead and I was worried for DS.

This is a national cycling path and much used school route so there are always bikes and children 8-9 and 3-4.

A sausage dog decided to bolt towards my 2 year old last month in the park for no apparent reason and I had to scoop him
up to avoid contact.

And don’t get me started in the ‘oh he’s just being friendly’. I don’t want your fucking dog jumping on me or my children or scaring my kids when we are just going about our day.

They should ALL be on leads unless they are in a dog park/field.

Yeh. White dog shit

You never see white dog shit now, it was everywhere in the 70's!

Stressedafff · 04/11/2023 11:35

We’re allowed to be wary about sharks, lions etc because they all bite
Yet the second someone mentions being anxious around a dog, which also can bite, there’s a race to who can iron out the fear quicker, people are allowed to dislike an animal. Not everyone has to love your shit machine as much as you do 🤦🏼‍♀️

User0000009 · 04/11/2023 11:35

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

QWERTYoutside · 04/11/2023 11:38

Yep agreed. Not dog fault though, it’s the feckless owners that think everyone wants to say hello to their lil’ doggie’, cos it’s so friendly and us mortal humans must not hurt the doggies fweeelings.

For me It’s not individual dogs that are an issue, especially not highly trained ones. It’s the increase in dogs generally and dogs owned by people with little knowledge, experience and who don’t care about other peoples space or needs. When I was a kid in the 80s/90s I’d say only 1/10 people I knew had a dog and I don’t think any of our immediate neighbours did. Just people who actually liked and invested time in their dogs had them. If you went to the park or a walk you might see one or two. Now almost everyone I know has a dog, most of my neighbours have a dog. That’s a large increase and it is bound to have a knock on in terms of things like amount of dogs in public spaces, amount of dog mess left on walkways etc. if I go for a walk now near me I will pass many many dogs and it is almost guaranteed that at least once or twice I’ll have a dog run up to sniff at my crotch or jump up at me while their owner shouts “don’t worry he’s friendly”.

Yes this. Councils generally remove the dog mess from the special bins, but they must be overrun, I wonder how much it is costing. I have seen where it hasn't been removed and there's obviously a build-up.

Also I'm surprised posters up thread recommended putting dog mess in the general community litter bins and not just the specially assigned dog mess bins. Surely that is wrong and potentially hazardous as these are disposed off in different ways (assuming)

As off-putting as it might seem, tying it to a tree branch off the ground, where it is clearly identified and can be removed with caution makes more sense and is less hazardous than dumping it in the general waste. Or putting it neatly in the bushes....

DaveClifton · 04/11/2023 11:48

I like dogs. I know and love some brilliant ones. But there are 2 million more dogs in the UK than there were in 2011 (PDSA report 2022), and I personally can really notice the increase.

I'm sick of every country park, beach, footpath, bridleway and cycle path feeling like bloody Crufts ALL THE TIME. And now you can't even escape the fuckers (and their feckless owners) indoors either!

TimeForACider · 04/11/2023 11:54

I’m not keen on dogs either for pretty much all the reasons you’ve described.

🤷🏽‍♀️ A bin is a bin. I'd rather have a pile of dog shit in biodegradable bags in landfill than any old plastic tat that kids seen to drop everywhere!
At least the former will decompose in our lifetime!

“Not everyone has to love your shit machine as much as you do 🤦🏼‍♀️” Does this apply to humans too.

Deathwillbebutapause · 04/11/2023 12:15

Of course not. That poster is firmly convinced their own shit doesn't stink.

Stressedafff · 04/11/2023 12:17

Why does the “I don’t like dogs” question always derail to involve peoples kids?
No one cares if you don’t like someone’s kid, kids don’t shit all over the floor or come up to you jumping all over.
Never known anything like it at all

I don’t like wasps, is someone gonna come along and tell me that I’m a psychopath because I don’t like wasps, or that I’m “untrustworthy”

Ps- whoever’s leaving bags of dog shit in tree branches and bushes you’re a fucking scruff.

Deathwillbebutapause · 04/11/2023 12:24

My dogs do not go up to anyone. They certainly don't try to lick them. I am very particular about what they put in their mouths.

wtf on this I agree

and yeh re kids. Usually something about smell and ‘sticky fingers’ haven’t rtft. For a start adults smell more than Dc and make mess

On dogs. Clean up and stop them bounding on other people’s dc - fine

A lot of the bins round here are dual purpose and they have signs on them making it clear. So I wouldn’t get your knickers in a twist about it, it all ends up in the same place.

Absolutely. How can you not like wasps. Wasps are amazing. It's usually people's own fault if they are stung - flapping about exciting it.

That’s interesting. This is the crux of it for me. Dogs aren’t an issue the sheer number of them are

XelaM · 04/11/2023 11:02

My dog can behave very well around children, as he's grown up with children and is an absolute sweetheart. As I said up thread, kids in the park chase HIM because they want to pet him not the other way around. And parents do nothing about it. Thankfully, he is a very tolerant little dog.

That doesn’t change the fact that you absurdly assume people who have bad encounters with dogs hate them and pass on mental health problems to their children. 🙄. That’s an insane analysis.

My children never chased dogs or had any interest in them. It didn’t stop dogs chasing them, growling and snapping at them and biting them.

My reality dies not fit your prejudice but it all happened anyway

I agree with you

squashi · 04/11/2023 13:03

I'm a bit scared of dogs and don't like being approached/bothered by them in public, but tbh I find that rarely happens these days. It annoys me when dogs on leads are allowed to take up a whole path so that it's difficult to pass.

I hope that's not directed at me @mugboat

Have you read my earlier comments? I do not have and have never owned a dog. For one thing, I'm severely asthmatic and ridiculously allergy prone and for another wouldn't go anywhere near dog poop provided I spot it in time.

I simply questioned if the community bins aren't more immediately hazardous than hanging the waste out of contact.

I did some research and the dog poop should only go on the community bin if it is securely bagged in non-degradable plastic and not in compostable bags, which makes sense.

Cant stand the stinky bastards and their terrible owners. Once in a blue moon you see those really, really well behaved dogs and I think to myself that the owners must feel like super dog parents. King and Queen of the dog world…Elite trainers 😂 They must feel smug as fuck
as most dog owners are terrible at controlling their dogs. Even the good ones still reek though.

Ever so often in a moment of madness I type into the internet something like “Dogs that don’t smell, malt or bark” 😂😂 Then realise I’ve lost my mind, they don’t exist and I will never ever get one.

Moult

vivainsomnia · 04/11/2023 13:21

Those things that you described would have annoyed me very much OP, but what I don't get is making it such an issue, it is worth posting about it and even more making it about dogs in general.

Has your children never ever been pushed by mistake by another child not looking where they were going?

It used to happen quite a lot when I used to run. Kids not paying attention and their parents not looking where they were going either. I would al.ostvrvery run have to avoid one or more but a couple of times couldn't avoid one jumping right in front of me.

It happened with dogs too. These annoyed me there and then but I then forgot about them and O certainly couldn't imagine writing a post about it staring I really had enough of kids.

Dogs, cats, birds, squirrels, foxes are all part of our society. They can be annoying as many other things. We just have to take big breaths and let the annoyance or anger go.

BalloonSalesperson · 04/11/2023 13:50

But as a pp said, YABU to start a thread that has been done loads of times!

It's a reflection of just how absolutely fed up to the back teeth people are of the complete take over of almost everywhere. Dogs as far as the eye can see.
So there'll be a lot of threads.
