Just fucking sick of dogs

1000 replies

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 19:00

Sorry but I am. I was cycling home from
picking up DS from school with him on the back and a dog came running up beside
me snarling and snapping at my feet on the pedals. I nearly bloody went over but managed to keep my balance and get past it (electric bike). Owner called an apology and I just rode on as it was still off the lead and I was worried for DS.

This is a national cycling path and much used school route so there are always bikes and children 8-9 and 3-4.

A sausage dog decided to bolt towards my 2 year old last month in the park for no apparent reason and I had to scoop him
up to avoid contact.

And don’t get me started in the ‘oh he’s just being friendly’. I don’t want your fucking dog jumping on me or my children or scaring my kids when we are just going about our day.

They should ALL be on leads unless they are in a dog park/field.

Look, you can not like dogs, and that is fine.. But all the vitriol that comes out in these threads just gets bizarre and plain nasty.
Agreed - there are some seriously unhinged people on here, glad I don’t meet them in real life.

The saying goes, never trust someone who hates animals. Because they're generally unpleasant people. If I meet someone who tells me they hate animals, I tend to back off from them. Not a nice trait. And says a lot about them as a person.

I don't hate animals. Just dogs really.

God yet another one. I don't hate animals. I hate dogs who have feckless owners who can't and don't control them.

Yet another one who thinks their dog should be loved by everyone or they're a nasty person.

PermanentTemporary · 04/11/2023 15:37

I dont hate animals either. I think wild animals are magnificent.

Yup. I went on safari and it was one of the best experiences of my life.

Little fido behaving like a shit in a cafe with his feckless owner can do one along with every other bloody dog that shouldn't be in cafes. I'm not interested in dogs.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 04/11/2023 15:44

Surely it’s also entitled to use shared spaces and then moan about others using them just because you don’t like what they’re using them for? Dog owners are generally happy to share those spaces, it’s the people who dislike dogs that have the issue. If you’re the one with the issue then surely it’s up to you to change your behaviour to solve the issue 🤷‍♀️

Why should anyone change their behaviour or stop going into shared spaces to suit unruly off the lead dogs? It's up to the person to control their dog. Mental justification.

Dontcallmescarface · 04/11/2023 15:46

That's odd because a lot of people hate spiders (not me I've got 3 of the 8 legged lovelies). Maybe in the summer I should just take them out to the park and let them climb all over the dog walkers. They won't hurt you they're just "being friendly" 😄

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 04/11/2023 15:51

Way to ignore eeeeeverything else she wrote.

Nah I just rolled my eyes at the usual 'I let my dog off the lead and she's well behaved' blah blah. My mate peddles this about her own dog, that he comes back when called, he's no harm to anyone. When in reality he has shit recall, she spends any time in the park hollering after him and he's a pest to others. Dogs can get adequate exercise on a lead. I no longer go for walks with her when he's there and I do actually like dogs. It's the owners I have a problem with.

RelationshipOrNot · 04/11/2023 14:50

This is unkind. For a lot of people, their pet is all they have. I've been in that position and she definitely made my lonely house feel like a home. It makes me sad to think that people look at us out in public and think my dog is just a disgusting creature when she has brought so much love and hope into my life at times when things have been really dark. And I don't mean people reasonably objecting to bad behaviour - it's clear that plenty of people on here think that dogs are inherently disgusting and are annoyed just to see them.

I apologise @RelationshipOrNot You're absolutely right to pull me up on this

I amend my post to a home is made by love.

I stand by the intention of what I meant earlier...a dog does not make a house a home.

I'm a dog owner myself, so don't think they're disgusting. I hate the way society has gone in that dogs are now treated like humans and allowed in places dogs should not be.

Following on from my restaurant example earlier, this morning I was in Co-op. A dog was in there with its owner. The dog licked a baguette three times.

The dog owner pulled the dog away after they realised what they were doing, but the reality is that the dog should never have been in a shop in the first place. The owner never bought the baguette, nor told a shop assistant. So I did.

It's disgusting behaviour. It really is.

BalloonSalesperson · 04/11/2023 16:05

I've got what seems like a thousand at the moment, but they are uninvited.
They can stay. They don't hound my guests, or sniff crotches, or smell, or leave hairs.

vivainsomnia · 04/11/2023 16:20

The world has gone crazy with dogs and this thread is largely full of dog owners who agree
Well of course! If the world has gone mad with dogs it's because a large, growing number of people love them.

They have become a large part of society because the world has gone mad with them!

That people are not happy about it is one thing, but to think that their feelings and views should take precedence and society should adapt to those who are now clearly a minority (those who hate dogs and wish they were not around) is entitled and just ridiculous. Some things you just have to accept and manage.

Poorly behaved dogs is another discussion. Again, very annoying, but no different to children, adults, men, women, elderly etc...who behave in a way that is frustrating. Again, we have no choice but to live with them!

But I do still want dd to run in a park without having any bounding up

Exactly-Little children can be knocked flying by dogs very easily.

I was knocked flying by a Whippet/Saluki who slammed into my knees- I went over like a felled tree.
The owner was very apologetic.

What REALLY pisses me off is a mutt that rampages around the park at great speed, attacking other dogs and it flies over the fence that separates the ''Dog'' part to the ''children's'' part - it has invaded the children's part a few times - Local people have photographed it..{pictured-screenshot}
Its owner lurks at the park boundary and never intervenes.

Just fucking sick of dogs

Dogs are not humans. They should not be treated as such and afforded the same entitlements

I don't hate animals, I think having pets is exploitative and wrong. And I dislike many dogs because they won't leave people alone and hassle them, which eg a guinea pig doesn't do and people don't take their guinea pigs to the pub with them either (although I actually wouldn't mind that, it would be cute).

And many dog owners clearly do hate animals because they treat them so badly. Ditto some cat owners, but it's easier for cats to get away and find someone who gives them some love.

Not all dogs can, you clearly don’t have much of an understanding of many breeds. I’m not going to negatively impact my well behaved dogs quality of life just to please the dog haters. People should have control of their dogs, of course they should, but saying all dogs need to be in leads at all times is unnecessary and actually cruel to a lot of high energy, but east to train breeds.

Cockatoo?! 😂

There's a guy in West Bay who takes his 3 colourful parrots out for walks along the seafront! I'm so used to him, I didn't bat an eyelid when I read about your cockatoo going to the beach...😁

Of course people should control their dogs but all the people on this thread moaning about the mere existence of them in places they go. I also don’t believe all the dramatic tales, I think people are embellishing for dramatic effect in a lot of these posts.

TheaBrandt · 04/11/2023 16:57

I don’t hate dogs some of my friends dogs I quite like. Don’t love them either. There are just far far too many of them now. It’s unsustainable.

TheaBrandt · 04/11/2023 17:01

I have been jumped up on - great big muddy paws on my shoulders marking my coat /two little yappy ones lunged and snapped at my then toddler as she walked past them she had done nothing to provoke and one loose on bike path in the dark at commuting time caused Dh to fall off his bike and get cuts and bruises. So not a massive fan when they encroach on me and mine no going about our business no.

I think you are very lucky to have had a great dane or similar put their paws on your shoulders, or are you exceptionally small.... ?

TheaBrandt · 04/11/2023 17:09

It was a big Labrador. Hilariously the wet owner said just stood there saying “he never does that” errr …

I also got bitten on the face by a neighbours dog as a small child minding my own business in my own garden! Neighbour tried to say it was my fault! Dog had to be put down shortly afterwards as it had gone mad. I still remember the injustice of being blamed for it!

i’ve always found passionately committed animal lovers to be difficult, antisocial and, frankly, a bit weird. Refugees from life often.

I also think (and I know you didn’t say this) that the frequent cry of ‘people who don’t like animals show a risk of becoming psychopaths’ is bollocks. A lot of dedicated animal lovers have no empathy for their fellow human beings. The most obvious and extreme cases are Adolf Hitler and Ian Brady.
