Just fucking sick of dogs

1000 replies

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 19:00

Sorry but I am. I was cycling home from
picking up DS from school with him on the back and a dog came running up beside
me snarling and snapping at my feet on the pedals. I nearly bloody went over but managed to keep my balance and get past it (electric bike). Owner called an apology and I just rode on as it was still off the lead and I was worried for DS.

This is a national cycling path and much used school route so there are always bikes and children 8-9 and 3-4.

A sausage dog decided to bolt towards my 2 year old last month in the park for no apparent reason and I had to scoop him
up to avoid contact.

And don’t get me started in the ‘oh he’s just being friendly’. I don’t want your fucking dog jumping on me or my children or scaring my kids when we are just going about our day.

They should ALL be on leads unless they are in a dog park/field.

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 20:22

@GonnaGetGoingReturns er, because he is a human? Children and dogs are not comparable. I get that some people think that children are annoying, but they are human beings learning to be in the world and have every right to be here. I don’t tend to take my kids to restaurants because I can’t trust that they will behave in a way expected in a restaurant but they have more right to be there than an animal.

I don’t know why you’re having a go at me. He’s irrationally scared of any dog, he’s not been attacked by one as far as his parents know.

I’m for dogs being not allowed in certain cafes, restaurants etc as this would make his life easier. I agree with you that children have more right to be there than a dog but you attacking me doesn’t help your cause.

Fahbeep · 03/11/2023 21:05

Dogs are overrated. Out for a walk today with kids and there was a woman, with a massive dog two thirds her size on a lead, but snapping at kids while shitting all over the path. I am sure the owner was what you would call "responsible", as she was trying to pick it up while holding the dog on a short leash, but it's thin margins between this and it getting loose and biting a toddler. They should be limited to one per house, mandatory spaying/castration if kept as pets, never allowed off the lead outside of private land, and muzzled when in public. There should be big four figure fines to enforce these things. I'm in the minority but I'm pretty radicalised about this!

FrostieBoabby · 03/11/2023 21:05

Good opportunity to run over its paw?

I'm with you, so many people can't seem to handle dogs now, no recall trained into them and letting them off the lead to run at and bark/snarl at random folks just out for a walk/bike ride/run etc

Cheesecakefiend · 03/11/2023 21:06

As a dog owner I'm often surprised by how many useless dog owners there are. So many 'walk' their dog texting the entire time or oblivious to the world because of their earbuds . They don't interact with their dog or watch it so the poo stays where it lands. If you haven't got the time or inclination to do the most basic task of ownership, walking it, you should not have a dog.

crazyaginglady · 03/11/2023 20:24

@GonnaGetGoingReturns totally misread your post - I’m standing down and I’m sorry!

Apology accepted and I didn’t see it before I replied.

Applepyed · 03/11/2023 20:34

@kitsuneghost next time my baby poos in his nappy should I just leave that hanging in the tree if there’s no bin nearby then?

Edited

To be fair. Rather baby poo than dog poo.

CateringPanic · 03/11/2023 21:06

I hear you OP. They are everywhere and everywhere is now “dog friendly”. Currently feeling less sympathetic towards dogs than usual as next door but one’s dog won’t stop barking at the fireworks and it’s driving me mad

ooooahhh · 03/11/2023 21:06

Yep. They dogs are currently ridiculously humanised. It's cruel to dogs and it's bloody irritating, and worrying, for many humans.

WedRine · 03/11/2023 19:27

I hold the same opinions of cats tbf, but at least dog owners should be picking their dog poo up, we have issues with the neighbour's cat coming into my garden to take a crap every single morning and leaving its dead mice and birds on DD's trampoline. Absolutely vile.

Borrow a dog for the day I guarantee he won't be back to leave you presents. I hate cats they do treat places like it's a hotel.

BestKitten · 03/11/2023 21:13

I have a dog, I adore dogs but the majority of dog owners now are useless idiots and their dogs a nuisance at best dangerous at worst. YANBU.

If you have a dog, control it.

grumpycow1 · 03/11/2023 21:13

Oh I know, but I don’t blame the dogs, it’s the fucking owners. I think people generally are just becoming less aware, more selfish.

the other day I was coming out of a coffee shop with my 2 year old - there was a group of dog walkers sitting outside. There was a 3ft plus Irish wolfhound blocking the door and my 2 year old stopped in his tracks - I said ‘excuse me’ to the dog owner and she just looked blankly. When I coaxed my toddler past she said ‘oh good boy, see he’s gentle’ to my toddler - like she’s doing me a favour!!! I was fuming.

there is so much dog poo on our street too :(

friends with dogs just bring them when we invited them, no question of whether we want dogs in our house.

I could go on…. But it’s all annoying people that are the issue.

Itwasafterallallaboutme · 03/11/2023 21:15

LuckySantangelo35 · 03/11/2023 20:49

@Itwasafterallallaboutme

talking shit is a hell of a lot better than eating shit

dog are grosser than humans. End of.

I can't and won't apologise for not agreeing with you @LuckySantangelo35, except about the fact that eating shit would probably be pretty gross, but I don't intend to either prove or disprove that theory!

The vast majority of dogs have much purer souls than the vast majority of humans. End of.

WinterDeWinter · 03/11/2023 21:19

I think people generally are just becoming less aware, more selfish.

I do think this is true @grumpycow1 . Dog ownership is just one arena of many in which 'shall I consider others and imagine how they might be impacted by my actions?' is becoming less and less the norm.

Having said that, dog owners have always had a bit of a tendency to be pricks. I think 'don't worry love he's friendly' was almost exactly what the owner of the German Shepherd who jumped onto my brother's Maclaren, giving him a lifelong fear of dogs, said in 1972.

WinterDeWinter · 03/11/2023 21:19

maclaren buggy not racing car.😁

Canisaysomething · 03/11/2023 21:21

Dog culture has changed massively in the UK. It’s out of control.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 03/11/2023 21:22

Drdoomish · 03/11/2023 19:17

That's because the feckless owners give MNers something to complain about.

I had breakfast last week in an expensive restaurant. A large dog kept coming up to us sniffing, licking and wagging.

Owners "he's just being friendly"
Us "he's spoiling our breakfast. Please keep him away". Ignored.

We complained to staff. They were young. They would "pass our concerns onto the managers ". They didn't have the maturity to talk to the dog owners.

We asked to speak to a manager. They repeated the same line and didn't speak to the owners either.

Our breakfast had been ruined by this point. We left. We won't be returning.

Dogs used to be pets that stayed at home and were only taken on walks. They were perfectly content. Why on earth do people need to baby their dogs? They're animals, pets. That's all.

I say this as a dog owner.

I share @Drdoomish 's view and I' m also a dog owner.

Many irresponsible owners out there and far too many thinking of their dog as their "fur baby", who should be able to go into shops, cafes, restaurants etc. No thanks.

I will take my dog to a local cafe after his walk, but we will only ever sit outside. I never sit in a cafe or restaurant with him, never in a shop.

But people do need to remember that parks etc are shared outdoor spaces. You can't hate an animal just for existing...

My dog got in the way of a runner. He didn't chase the runner, or approach the runner or jump up or anything, I don't think he knew he was there. He was just sniffing round the leaves and ended up in front of the guy, who simply had to run round him and clearly saw him.

But the runner swore at him and made to kick him! If you run in a busy london park (as i do too, so I get it), you have to change your path sometimes for kids, dogs, other people. And no, you don't get to kick my dog!

Appreciate it's not the same as what happened with you though op.

To a dog you are a friend
To a cat you are staff

WinterDeWinter · 03/11/2023 21:24

Also - and apologies for raising the stakes - but is eating shit actually objectively worse than enjoying porn which involves anal sex and blowjobs interspersed, which it seems vast numbers of men (women?) are really into watching? Humans are bleurgh too.

TicTacNicNak · 03/11/2023 21:24

I used to go dog walking with a few other ladies but one of them had a young German Shepherd who wasn't trained. It was always off lead in the park and would go bounding up to other people/dogs it saw. The owner would call its name in a pathetic way with no strength or command to it, so the dog ignored her. One day the dog ran up to another dog (on lead) and the owner shouted for her to recall her dog. Took her ages to get him back and she then had the cheek to say the other woman shouldn't bring her dog to the park if it didn't like other dogs!! I told her exactly what I thought about that and don't walk with her any longer.

I also have a dachshund which belongs to my DD. It was a lockdown puppy so didn't get socialised adequately and as a result it is very reactive towards other dogs or joggers. He has to stay on the lead at all times as he has no recall either. I hate the amount of other dog walkers who just let their dogs come running up to us. Even when they see my dog on a lead and barking, they don't call theirs away. An even bigger bug bear is "professional" dog walkers who turn up with 5 or 6 dogs, half of them off lead, who run up to people/dogs and have no recall. They have no control. They're usually pretty bad at picking up the poop too, because they're having trouble watching all the dogs.

Jessforless · 03/11/2023 21:26

Cats are the worst. And I have two 😅

they destroy all soft furniture. They take you or leave you… and I saw the most perfect meme once.

cat sitting by window, ‘I’m so lonely, won’t someone save me from this life of solitude!’

cat sitting by window looking sad ‘no one has come. My life is an endless wasteland of alone time.

cat in window with hand encroaching - ‘don’t fucking touch me!!’

Thats the most perfect life with cats example I’ve ever seen.

Radicalised is probably the word. If I kept my dog like that it would pretty much be abuse because of the sort of dog she is she needs to run. So I will continue to let her run free in appropriate places so that I can be a responsible owner and give her a good quality of life. 😁

I love dogs and reserve my anger for the owners. It's entirely their fault the vast majority of the time. So I'd say I'm sick to death of shit people who can't control their pets, or can't be arsed to.

This.

Teder · 03/11/2023 21:29

My dog hasn’t even mentioned he would like to browse the furnishings in John Lewis nor has he had a craving for scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for brunch. I take him to quiet fields or dog parks. He does doggy things. I do human things.

I have to say though while I don’t like badly behaved dogs approaching me, shitting cats are just as bad! Gross.

Maatandosiris · 03/11/2023 21:32

Well I’m fed up with cyclists -selfish road users, dangerous on shared paths. Much rather have a dog than a cyclist

User0000009 · 03/11/2023 21:34

There seems to be some sort of mania around owning a dog at the moment. Not everyone is capable of owning a dog but still they have them. Dogs are not humans. Just because they are treated as such by the owner doesn’t mean the rest of us want them to have the same privileges as us. They should not be in cafes, pubs etc. Take them up the park on a lead. We are not all lovers of dogs
