Is it too early? (Christmas Tree)

When do you put yours up?

Now the nights are drawing in I'm fancying putting a tree up to make the living room cosy with the lights and decorations.

It's too early, isn't it?!

It's my first Christmas in a new house, I didn't have room for a tree before so I'm somewhat over excited...

I’m in a cafe that already has its Christmas tree up.

Mostlyoblivious · 02/11/2023 18:09

Life is short. If it makes you excited and happy then put the tree up.

Fairy lights are a lovely compromise, or even fairy lights wrapped round big twigs / small branches in a vase or a mini artificial birch tree thing

Squirrelsnut · 02/11/2023 18:10

Way too early. Do a 'winter's coming' twinkly decor.

You are all lunatics - Christmas decorations in November - what are you? A cash trapped local authority? Christmas is a festival that lasts from 24 December to 5 January - not a "cosy feeling".

Ours go up on the last Satuday before Christmas and down on Twelfth night.

Anything else is wrong. bangs gavel of judgyness

Too early! Wait till December

spinqueen42 · 02/11/2023 18:32

Yes it’s far too early

CaroleSinger · 02/11/2023 18:36

This has been me since last week. I don't care. Get those twinkly lights out this instant gf! 😀

No it's not. You only get 25days in December. I'm going to put up little decorations in the next couple weeks and a mini tree. I only have a small flat

Ppzd · 02/11/2023 19:48

Do whatever you want! I think it's fun having decorations and lights everywhere when it's so dark and cold outside. 🌟

Autumnvibes23 · 02/11/2023 19:55

Put it up when you like. If it makes you happy I see no reason not to. I have a little string of fairy lights that are permanently on my fireplace!

Kyliemichelletaylor · 02/11/2023 20:22

Life is short - if it brings you joy, get it up now! I would have it up on 1 November if it were me! X

It's never too early to do things that make you happy!
Me and my 10yo were considering swapping our halloween deccs for Xmas ones but decided against it as we want December to be extra special and don't want to 'get used' to the deccs.
We saw our first Xmas lights on someone's house yesterday and got so excited.
There's enough misery in the world, do what makes you happy/cosy xx

I just love seeing Christmas lights! The walk home from school everyday involves spotting new ones!

Dec 1st is close to the start of Advent. Sometimes it's actually the 1st. This year it's the 3rd.

I would only allow shops to stock anything Christmas related from the first working day in Advent which this year is the 4th but could be as early as 28 November.

I would also like an Advent calendar that actually covers Advent rather than a December calendar which they all are.

Surely a December calendar would be 1st-31st?

ghostyslovesheets · 02/11/2023 20:50

I have fairy lights in the fire place and in glass jars - I changed all the batteries last weekend - they make everything feel cosy and warm.

Tree doesn't go up until around the 10th as I get a real one - it would be a twig by New Year if I out it up now

vickylou78 · 02/11/2023 21:20

Put up some fairy lights or get some nice candles. But I think wait till December for Christmas tree.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 02/11/2023 21:46

I have fairly lights up quite a lot of the year. Depending on how I feel!

Christmas tree for me is the last couple of weeks before Christmas but that’s because I buy a real one.

Autumnvibes23 · 02/11/2023 20:37

Surely a December calendar would be 1st-31st?

True. I amend that to say all "Advent" calendars are not actually Advent calendars but are merely partial December calendars.

Even in the years where 1 December is the first day of Advent they all include the 25th so still wrong!

Thursa · 02/11/2023 23:04

Your home, your tree. Do what you want. Ours go up at the end of November, but the last one to go up is the kitchen tree, it’s the only one seen from outside so as not to annoy whining fun sucks.

cakeshell · 03/11/2023 02:40

There'll be plenty of threads like this over the coming weeks, and arguments about how the common, lower class, are the ones who can't wait for later in December to put their trees and decorations up.

LeonBlack · 03/11/2023 04:11

Far, far too early imo.

Summer776 · 03/11/2023 04:30

We are keeping our Halloween tree up until it becomes our Christmas tree. I suggested we male it an autumnal tree but DD12 loves our first t Halloween tree.

Nanalisa60 · 03/11/2023 05:33

I wait till the first weekend in DECEMBER , then I keep them up till twelfth night, so they are really up for five weeks , I think that is long enough. If you put them up to early I think you get sick of the sight of them. I will spend a lot of November deep cleaning the house so when they go up the first weekend In December the house looks it’s best. I love December as the house is usually very clean because of my hard work In November, my work is very quiet and I do lots of social stuff .

Put it up now. It's uplifting and celebratory. Enjoy your new house and your pretty lights. It's not like the MN inspectors are going to call at your house.

MaryShelley1818 · 03/11/2023 06:38

We put our tree up around the 15th December. We have a real tree and like it to be in good condition still on Christmas Day. It's also DS' Birthday early December so we like him to have a week with his Birthday cards/banners up before Christmas decs.
