Is it too early? (Christmas Tree)

When do you put yours up?

Now the nights are drawing in I'm fancying putting a tree up to make the living room cosy with the lights and decorations.

It's too early, isn't it?!

It's my first Christmas in a new house, I didn't have room for a tree before so I'm somewhat over excited...

You can do what you like and I agree, it is tempting to try and bring some of the cosy, twinkly lights of Christmas in early.

Personally, I am holding out until the end of the month before I satrt with a few festive bits.

sollenwir · 02/11/2023 08:50

Personally I'd say it's far too early for a christmas tree, however lights and other things which make the house more cosy are fine by me.

DappledThings · 02/11/2023 08:53

I think it's crazy early. Nothing before Advent for me and even then I'd prefer about the 20th. DH likes it up first weekend in December so he cracks on.

Nothing down before 12th night though. I judge people who take them down early far more than those who put them up early.

TheMousePipes · 02/11/2023 08:56

I dress the front room for autumn with small pumpkins, conkers , interesting leaves dd found etc and fairy lights. That’ll be up for the next week and then it goes away and I like a couple of austere weeks before advent. Advent is silver and purple and lots of candles then I put the tree up by December 17th as that’s Saturnalia.
Sounds like a lot of faff but autumn and advent are only a couple of things on the mantlepiece that change the feel of the room. I do go full on for actual Christmas though!

WickedSerious · 02/11/2023 09:03

I start decorating for Christmas on the 1st of December,it's a hangover from when the kids were small and DD would nag until I lost the will to live.

LoveSeptember · 02/11/2023 09:06

Mine are going up this weekend! We have trees up at the beginning of November and the outside lights and general indoor Christmas decorations up at the beginning of December. It just makes November and December lovely and cosy. All comes down for the new year, fresh start!

Stephisaur · 02/11/2023 09:30

There's a woman local to me who has had hers up for weeks. She made the local news 😂

Honestly, put it up whenever! I would probably wait until after this weekend (get bonfire night out of the way) but I don't think there's a right or wrong answer.

Ours will be going up first weekend in December (hopefully) as DS likes having the tree up for his birthday.

Milsie892 · 02/11/2023 09:41

I normally put mine up on the 1st November, 2 Christmas trees, garlands, full works but have had covid so I’m a day late already! 🙄😂🎄
I’m getting my Covid stricken DH up in the loft later to get them all down so I can start. 😂😂😁 it always looks beautiful when it’s done and I never regret doing it so early.

This time of year the weather can be so miserable and it just cheered everyone up.

Do It!!! 🎄🎄

Harry12345 · 02/11/2023 09:46

I don’t understand people who put them up early and then have them down on Boxing Day, really makes no sense, Christmas is from 24-6/1

stargirl1701 · 02/11/2023 09:48

Yes, it's too early.

We have not observed Remembrance yet.

Christmas really begins on Christmas Eve.

Universalsnail · 02/11/2023 09:49

Yes it's far too early.

Mine doesn't go up before a week before Christmas.

But if you really have to I think it's acceptable from December 1st

Betty36 · 02/11/2023 09:50

It's early, we put up our Christmas tree the first weekend in December:-) And fairy lights from the mid - November.

x2boys · 02/11/2023 09:52

Entirely your choice
But I never understand people who have their tree up in November and then take everything down by Boxing day .

RampantIvy · 02/11/2023 09:55

It's entirely up to you. I find putting up the tree and taking it down a right old faff. It also makes my living room darker and smaller, so I have it up for as short a time as possible.

Daffyyellow · 02/11/2023 09:57

If you put it up now it’s going to be something else that needs dusting! Your house, your rules but it’s too early for me. Why not put up the lights in a different way to enjoy this month?

Milsie892 · 02/11/2023 10:02

For everyone saying it’s too early? Who says it is? Where is the rule book saying when you should put them up? If it makes you and your family happy then do it! 🎄

PriOn1 · 02/11/2023 10:02

The first year after I left my husband, I went and bought a nice tree in November as he had always declined to buy a nice artificial tree, despite the fact that my son was allergic to the real thing.

My son wanted to put it up as soon as I showed him it and we did, because I also wanted the cosiness of having the decorations up. I confess, I did regret it as it actually was too early for me and it felt like they were up way too long. Putting up fairy lights seems like a lovely compromise and I hope you enjoy them.

treacletoffee23 · 02/11/2023 10:02

Do what makes you happy
lm moving my furniture around to facilitate my 8ft tree which will be going up after Bonfire night
It takes so much effort l put it up early
Merry Christmas 🥰

chattyness · 02/11/2023 10:04

If you want to have one just go for it! It's your lovely house and you get to start your own traditions, so if anyone visiting mocks or moans just ignore them, you've put it up for your enjoyment not theirs! You can have a tree up all year round if you want to, call it a celebration tree & change the decorations to suit the season, occasion, or whatever, lots of people do.

Petrine · 02/11/2023 10:06

I think it’s far too early for a tree.

Personally I use candles to create a cosy feeling and better still use scented candles for a lovely fragrance.

Putting throws on the chairs also adds to the warm and coziness.

mondaytosunday · 02/11/2023 10:13

Too early. I love love love Christmas and put mine up first weekend in December but even I'm sick of it by New Years.

Figment1982 · 02/11/2023 10:44

Too early!

However, I have been listening to Heart Christmas for about 4 weeks now 😳

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 02/11/2023 10:45

For me too early, I tend to put mine up around the 1st December or the nearest weekend

BloodyHellKen · 02/11/2023 10:48

We have warm white fairy lights around the house all year round (except high summer then they are outside) once it gets dark which are lovely, twinkly and cosy.

I definitely think it's too early for a Christmas tree thought. In fact when I rule the world there will be no Christmas stuff allowed anywhere until the 1st December.
