Got a sample of perfume and I am in LOVE. This one https://www.harveynichols.com/mizensir/ambre-magique-100ml-893018-84657/?source=shoppingads&gclid=CjwKCAjws9ipBhB1EiwAccEi1BHHazHuJs4-yqCIf18YiOiE6twshFZYH5uRCF6y0O8jBKgR6m4XxoCSfUQAvDD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

But .. £265!! I'd be unreasonable to even ask for this for Christmas would I!
Have any of you ever got any perfumes that high price? Do they last longer etc?

you can probably get it on sale after Xmas. perfumes have ridiculous mark ups so essentially it's being mugged. you might find something similar in Arabian oud (ask for the traditional ittar, not the spray perfumes), they have stuff that has a similar profile and comes in pure form so you definitely get your money's worth.

TheChosenTwo · 01/11/2023 16:21

My perfume is a similar price, I don’t know if it’s stronger or lasts longer than my one other perfume but I just really like it. I only really ever have one perfume, not an area I have a whole collection of and not something which ever really excites me so I don’t mind spending on it when I find one I like.
I bought my mum a similarly expensive one for her birthday recently and she loves it and wears it every day. If you like it and can afford it then it’s worth it imo.

If you really love it and you can afford it, then def get it. I have a perfume I absolutely love that costs £600 🙈 It makes me feel fabulous wearing it, one or two squirts last all day, so a bottle lasts me a year or two. I don’t wear it every day obviously, I also have much cheaper perfumes I wear day to day. But I just love the smell of it, it makes me really happy. Life is too short to not do little things to treat yourself every now and then (as long as you don’t go without in other areas.)

Out of interest (no judgement, I have a serious perfume habit myself!) what perfume is it?

SweetBirdsong · 01/11/2023 16:26

I would never spend that on a perfume tbh. Never. You can get really nice, very good quality perfumes for less than £80.. Each to their own, but that is an exorbitant price.

monicagellerbing · 01/11/2023 16:30

@BakedTattie that's a PlayStation game? Do you mean Aventus Creed ?

Zampa · 01/11/2023 16:31

Like a PP, I'm a huge Baccarat Rouge fan. However, Zara do a great dupe. I use the former for special occasions and the latter as an everyday scent. Makes it last longer!

FlatSnuffy · 01/11/2023 16:38

Go to the makers website and buy it as a miniature in a discovery set first. Then if you've worn it every day and love it, buy the big one. But my taste changes quickly so I prefer lots of miniatures and airport specials.

spitefulandbadgrammar · 01/11/2023 16:41

I wear two perfumes both by Frederic Malle at £250 a pop; I love them both deeply and haven’t ever had ones as nice. I’m sure they’re not “worth” £250 and it’s all markup to seem elite but it’s worth the cash to me as they’re so lovely.

Babochan88 · 01/11/2023 17:05

I love and collect niche perfumes so if you want it treat yourself! However, just because it’s £££££££ doesn’t meant it’ll last long. Deffo do your research.

Babochan88 · 01/11/2023 17:07

Also it may be worth buying sample sizes until you can justify buying a full bottle if that helps?

That’s what I’m drying to know too. I’m thinking possibly roja ???

my husbands favourite is assassins creed. I usually get him a bottle once a year. It’s roughly
£220

I think you meant Aventus by Creed. Assassins creed is a film and a videogame. Your post made me chuckle. It is a good perfume so good taste 😉

I feel your pain @mermaidtails. My signature scent is https://m.fredericmalle.co.uk/product/19566/50241/perfume/portrait-of-a-lady/by-dominique-ropion#/sku/86697
Generally 50mls will last a year as once you’ve applied the perfume it remains all day, which is lovely as it softens and changes on your skin over the day. I can 💯 % tell the difference between cheap and expensive scents.

What’s your definition of a cheap scent?

KimberleyClark · 01/11/2023 17:16

Ambergris, the stuff mentioned in the product description, is basically whale shit……

LaurieFairyCake · 01/11/2023 17:26

I wear Frederick Malle Carnal Flower as my day perfume - it's over £200

But I do the Liberty beauty drop so I just save it up for that. I'm not even half way through the bottle that I got in December so it will last 2 years

I do wear it almost every day

Creed Aventus for her. I normally get the 500ml refill bottle. Just looked online and it’s gone up even more since I last bought it 😬

Shutthedoormargaret · 01/11/2023 17:43

Giggling at assasins creed here!! My DH also likes creed Aventus. But I like how the previous poster is like, give a shit, DH and his expensive nonsense! I think if you like it and can afford it, why not. Some people would rather get lots of little things for the money, or one expensive thing. (And some are not able to spend it at all, I appreciate that)

KimberleyClark · 01/11/2023 17:54

wishingiwas20something · 01/11/2023 17:39

I think it’s about the nose behind the perfume that defines this. For example (but not even vaguely definitive): https://www.harpersbazaar.com/uk/beauty/fragrance/a41328734/frederic-malle-portrait-of-a-lady/#

Interesting, thank you!

Trumpton · 01/11/2023 17:57

Ok. I ordered from Small Aromas just a 2ml spray. Cost 12.99 delivered. How reckless!
But my lovely mother in law bought me perfume every year and I have just finished the last of it. So….Thank you darling
, I might have found a new perfume .

littlemousebigcheese · 01/11/2023 18:03

I wear Tom Ford and it's painful to purchase as it's £££ but I love it so much and it's my treat to myself!

Whatthebarnacles · 01/11/2023 18:06

Baccarat Rouge was 200 odd quid. My most favourite perfume of all time. Well worth it. But I only buy when I can afford it.

DH bought me a Tom Ford one for Christmas last year and it was, yeah, really nice. But if he'd have given me the money I'd have put the extra 50 towards it for BR for sure 😅

Buy it!!

CanIPetThatDawg · 01/11/2023 18:20

Everyone's a Baccarat Rouge fan these days. The power of hype!

Whatthebarnacles · 01/11/2023 18:28

Been a fan for years. Never knew of a hype. I fell across it after having a sample thrown in with another perfume I bought.
Point being, if you love the sample and you can afford it - absolutely buy it

TheLonelyGoatTurd · 01/11/2023 18:30

I love Santal 33, would I like Baccarat Rouge? Maybe best if I don't try to find out!
