Do you take your phone everywhere?

I have read people astounded that others do not take their phone everywhere. I don't. If I am going out to a barwith friends I leave it at-home. No point losing it, which i would if i took it. Or if I am popping out to the local shop I leave it, I don't need it.
So do you take your phone everywhere?
YABU = yes I do
YANBU = I dont

I had to vote YABU according to your rules, OP. But actually I think YANBU. I just happen to need my phone a lot

LemonRedwood · 31/10/2023 13:12

Yep, always. Not that I need to be on it all the time, but it's linked to my need to always have an easy way to get home - call someone in an emergency, easily call a taxi, Google where I am compared to where I need to be etc.

Zanatdy · 31/10/2023 13:14

always - going out is when I might need it most, especially with teens at home

StampOnTheGround · 31/10/2023 13:15

Always. The only time I'd leave it is in the house (if I'm upstairs my phone could be downstairs) but going out is the exact time you'd need it!

Estermay · 31/10/2023 13:16

@LemonRedwood what about if you are close enough to just walk home?

allsfairin · 31/10/2023 13:16

Yes, I get vertigo and can collapse without warning. I always have it in the room with me when I am home alone, and take it with me when I am out. My adult children can track me on it

LlynTegid · 31/10/2023 13:16

I don't take mine everywhere, and it does not come on holiday with me unless I am hiring a car. Why I take when hiring a car is because of the people who are given a licence when unfit to drive who may crash into me.

Bluelightbaby · 31/10/2023 13:17

Mine comes everywhere with me out the house, but if I’m gardening or going to the toilet etc…it doesn’t necessarily come

LubaLuca · 31/10/2023 13:17

Yes, it's rare that I'd forget it. I live rurally though, so could realistically find myself in the middle of nowhere needing to call home, a breakdown service, whatever.

Your example of going out for drinks with friends is one where I'd definitely be sure to take it. If my plans change eg I'm stopping out later than planned, then I want to be able to let people know. I suppose it depends on if you have anyone who might need to know your whereabouts.

Tangled123 · 31/10/2023 13:17

Yes, I carry it instead of a purse. I think leaving it at home defeats the purpose of having it really. Might as well be a landline then.

coveredindoghairs · 31/10/2023 13:18

One of the primary reasons I have a phone is for emergencies, so I take it with me when I leave the house, unless I'm just doing the gardening. I'd expect most people do the same, or rely on it for entertainment out of the home.

TheFlis · 31/10/2023 13:18

I would never leave my house without my phone. I’m amazed anyone does these days.

BoohooWoohoo · 31/10/2023 13:18

I would take my phone when I went out to a bar so that I can use Apple Pay, take photos and book a cab.

HaitchOh · 31/10/2023 13:18

I do take mine everywhere with me, but I don’t think you’re unreasonable for doing so. It’s personal choice. If I’m in a social setting, like a bar, it doesn’t leave my bag or pocket, it’s just there if I need to get an Uber, or let others know I might be late, etc.

SirenSays · 31/10/2023 13:19

Yes although it never leaves my bag when I'm out.
I leave my nice phone at home when I'm backpacking and take an older hardier one with me as a just in case.

Shoxfordian · 31/10/2023 13:19

My phone is pretty much surgically attached

BooBooBaloo · 31/10/2023 13:19

Always, but rarely take a purse with me as I pay for things using the phone

karrliz · 31/10/2023 13:19

I wouldn't be able to pay for anything without mine! I barely use a purse these days!

MidnightOnceMore · 31/10/2023 13:19

Usually take it but switch it onto silent a lot and ignore it.

adriftabroad · 31/10/2023 13:19

Never take mine.

Deadringer · 31/10/2023 13:20

The whole point of mobile phones is that you bring them with you when you go out, its what they were intended for.

This. I often go out with just my phone. I can’t remember the last time I paid with a card or cash.

Estermay · 31/10/2023 13:21

I am talking about a bar with friends where dp will be picking me up at the end of the evening. I am not going on anywhere afterwards, I am too old for those kind of nights. And if I am up dancing it just becomes an encumbrance that I could easily lose. Its too big to have in my trouser pickets. And handbags are easily stolen.

Always have my phone with me when I'm out of the house, it infuriates me on the odd occasion that I forget it and if time allows I will go back and get it.

This.

If you never take it with you what's the point on even having it, it's called a mobile phone because it's meant to be mobile.

Mine comes with me everytime I leave the house.
