Just opened the M&S app and saw the little 1 beside Sparks.

Oh goodie. Will it be free chocolate or percy pigs? Or even 20% off women's clothes?

I got offered the farmhouse loaf for about the fourth time. ☹️ I usually don’t bother collecting it, but did yesterday in the hope of being offered something different in future 🤞

40p for a paper bag is ridiculous

I think idea is to persuade you not to buy a new bag, but use reusable ones.

Paper production is still very resource (energy, materials, water) intensive so it's good to reuse a lot more than some people are doing.

I'd rather not use paper bags tbh, as they're useless when wet or even damp, as illustrated by all the sprouts that fell out of the bottom of the bag I'd put them in Morrisons and went all over my kitchen, so the scope for reuse is limited.

Also many paper bags are a lot nicer than they need to be, given that they don't last enough to justify the resources used to make them, even from recycled materials - I do consultancy work for the paper industry, the machines used to recycle cardboard typically fill a sports hall (and that's only the half I see), use and produce a lot of heat and there's always a huge amount of water and chemicals sloshing around too.

TLDR: a lot of people think paper bags solve the plastic issue, but they're not without issues themselves that don't go away just because they are put in the recycling.

Feeling very grumpy. For ages I've been getting offers for 50p off veg or a £1 off meat. I got the light up tea last Christmas! Since this thread started absolutely zero offers on food or clothing. I shall join the Christmas offers thread and cross my fingers for Swiss chocolate.

Or maybe the gin or Prosecco some lucky people got last year.
