Just opened the M&S app and saw the little 1 beside Sparks.

Oh goodie. Will it be free chocolate or percy pigs? Or even 20% off women's clothes?

Nope. It was:

Drum roll.

A free paper bag!!!! Be still my beating heart, I can't contain my excitement.

So, aibu in thinking I have just received the worst ever freebie or can you beat that?

Well, the Christmas tree offer is a bit shite.

When you click on shop the offer it takes you to a page that includes a metal tree skirt, great I thought, I’ll have on of those (£49.50 w/o sparks). When you check out not only does the offer 20% not come off total price but it is a delivery only item @ £3.95, rather than click and collect for free.

So, I am not buying the tree skirt I thought I was 😑.

That's disappointing.

My Sparks offers today were:

15% off kid's clothes - I've never had any children
20% off Christmas trees - not required

So nothing of use to me really😑

Chickoletta · 02/11/2023 16:56

In the past couple of years I’ve had a naice chocolate bar, 4 pack of soft drinks, a packet of Percy Pigs, an aromatherapy candle and a full-size handwash. Not sure what I did to deserve all of that!

More recently it’s been 5% off things I don’t buy if I spend over £100. 🤷‍♀️

OchonAgusOchonOh · 02/11/2023 18:37

I've just used my 15% off clothes to buy my father thermal underwear for christmas. Such an exciting gift. Maybe I will wrap it in the paper bag.

20% off kids’ clothing and 20% off hats, gloves and scarves. I wonder whether a large child’s coat might fit me?

The offer has to be used within 6 days - I suppose I could start my Christmas shopping. It’s too early for me, really.

ThePoshUns · 03/11/2023 10:38

I've got the same offer and have no kids. What a load of old crap Sparks is.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 03/11/2023 12:59

They've given me houmous today!!

Yeah, that one is particularly bad.

They’ve removed the tree skirt from the ‘shop the offer’ page - the 🐽 swines.

I got ‘win English Heritage membership’ today, I’ve been a member for 34 years.

Notmetoo · 03/11/2023 16:38

I haven't anything now but I've had two free bread loaves and free Peppa pigs. It sounds as though I have done well!

TenacityWins · 03/11/2023 18:01

I always forget to add my offers until after I scan my Sparks card at self -checkout and then it doesn't recognise the adds.

HappiDaze · 03/11/2023 19:14

My latest offer is 20% off hats, gloves and scarves plus the English Heritage thing and the ABBA voyage thing

OchonAgusOchonOh · 05/11/2023 10:35

I collected my bag. I did also get free cookies (nicked be ds2) and houmous (nicked be dd) so it wasn't a wasted journey.

It's just a bog standard paper bag that pretty much every shop in Ireland bar supermarkets give out free. I can't believe they are actually charging for them! Apparently they are getting rid of all plastic bags and replacing them with these.

You didn't notice your children stealing two items?

In fairness, I caved to the "oh I love that" hints. They're both at uni so sending food back with them is pretty traditional.

Oh ok. I was picturing pilfering toddlers.

I hope that your next M&S freebie is something that you'd actually enjoy.

🤣

I would be concerned about a toddler managing to nick and eat 5 large cookies. Although I would be slightly impressed with one going for the houmous.

This thread made me check my offers again: nothing. Some English Heritage prize draw & an ABBA thing.

When do I get my freebies??? I want my free food! Throws self to floor of M&S foodhall & has a toddler meltdown.

There, there. At least you didn't get a paper bag. And the ABBA show is amazing. I've been and definitely recommend it.

Wow. That will make all the difference to your budget this month. Just don't get too carried away with it.

I collected mine too at the weekend. I think it's slightly heavier than the paper bags that you would get in the clothes section of the store but the plastic bag levy was to be applied to plastic bags only. If M&S are getting rid of the plastic bag option, then they should be offering paper bags for free (in the Rep of Ireland) as there is no levy for paper bags.

This is different from them charging for the 'bags for life' option.
