Would be such a shame not to continue the discussion.

It's a bit cheeky on the MP; he's on bail but not charged, I assume.

verdantverdure · 25/10/2023 22:27

Great @DuncinToffee

You'd think someone would've worked out who he is by now.

Male Tory MP who is never seen in Westminster at all can't be a large pool of Susie ts.

He has been named

https://x.com/Gabriel_Pogrund/status/1703302706859831401?s=20

EXCL: Andrew Rosindell remains under investigation for sexual offences — including indecent assault and abuse of a position of trust.

Now the Conservative MP has had his bail extended until February 2024.

He’s still never informed his constituents.

@TooBigForMyBoots thank you! I despair at the “I’m voting Tory because they know what a woman is” brigade. Firstly, no they don’t. Secondly it doesn’t mean they’re the party to vote for as a feminist 😩🤯.

I work in social care and austerity has had a devastating effect on women - so much support that changed our lives for the better has disappeared. To throw the poor under the bus because Sunak made some sound bite comment about a woman being a woman at the party conference is terrifying.

I firmly believe that Labour are moving in the right direction on the toxic trans debate and while I don’t agree with the way Starmer has gone about it, the TRA lobby has become so vitriolic I get why he thought he needed to go the way he did initially.

@DivingForLove I firmly believe that Labour are moving in the right direction on the toxic trans debate

How? If anything, they're doubling down! They said misgendering a person will get you two years jail, if they're elected!

BIossomtoes · 25/10/2023 22:38

I know this is tedious of me @Sueveneers but is this another flight of fantasy or do you have a link?

EasternStandard · 25/10/2023 22:41

What makes you believe this?

underneaththeash · 25/10/2023 22:47

I haven't decided yet.
I swing vote, but wouldn't have ever voted for JC and am very wary of Angela Rayner. Saw Kier at the Edinburgh Festival and thought he was okay.
Also like Sunak (but not his 4 predecessors)and the women are women comment.
My main things are to encourage manufacturing through tax incentives. Ensure all the wealthy people currently dodging tax are paying their dues - rather than just blanketedly raising taxes.
Improve the NHS - but not just by throwing money at it - I've worked there and there needs to be fundamental change in the culture> I'd never worked in such a wasteful and neglectful institution before or afterwards.
Pay teachers more and get rid of the shit ones.
Tackle small scale crime and then people are less likely to commit large ones.

Biological sex is in consultation process atm, cleared by EHRC.

This is recent good news

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) said that following the review of how complaints against Kishwer Falkner had been dealt with, it had decided to close the investigation against her.

Allies of Falkner portrayed the investigation as a “witch-hunt” against her by pro-transgender rights staff members after the EHRC under her leadership backed changing the Equality Act 2010 so that the protected characteristic of sex would mean biological sex, which would allow transgender women to be barred from single-sex spaces.

Do you feel better about Labour policies on gender ID? If so, why?

Yes. Labour's position aligns with mine. No to self ID, strengthen sex based exemptions. Whilst at the same time supporting people who want to legally transition to help remedy their gender dysphoria.

And just to pre-empt the question, to me "legal transition" means they are treated in their acquired gender except when sex based exemptions apply, and they are protected from being discriminated against or harassed for being trans.

I feel very similarly to JKR.

I think only a very very tiny minority believe that transgender women should be referred to as men, and called he/him at all times.

strengthen sex based exemptions

How would this happen in law, for a male with a female sex certificate?

This doesn't mean it's "in consultation". Or do you have inside knowledge about what the Government are up to?

Luckily I am not a lawyer or a politician so don't need to worry too much. I'll leave it up to them to sort out. I just welcome the fact Labour and the Conservatives have both said they will do it. Whoever gets in, womens sex based rights will be protected.

No. I read FWR, many up to date posters with good information if posters are interested.

Luckily Rishi can add misgendering to the seven bins/meat tax list.

Or many posters making shit up and pretending they are Kemi's bestie, take your pick.

If the Government were doing anything with the legislation we'd know. "Consultation" means it would be publicised and they'd be asking for responses.

It's just hot air at the moment.

I don’t really care. I know who has more than ‘I’m not a politician or lawyer etc therefore I don’t worry’

That is no where near enough.

AdamRyan · 25/10/2023 23:08

So the daily mail make up a ridiculous, fact free story about Labour's position based on a newspaper quote from Annaliese Dodds (one week ago, will await the correction).
JKR points out how ridiculous this is, which sparks some international press all based on the same flimsy mail article.

And this is meant to be convincing??

The world has gone bananas.
