Would be such a shame not to continue the discussion.

It's a good job they know what women are though. Nothing to see here, these are the only party that care about protecting women.

To be fair Tory MPs don't only commit sexual offences against women.

Sometimes it's men.

Sometimes it's children.

AdamRyan · 28/10/2023 13:35

verdantverdure · 28/10/2023 13:27

Thanks @AdamRyan I missed loads of them!

According to one of those articles (the one about date rape drugs) "More than 50 MPs have faced investigations into alleged inappropriate behaviour in just four years since 2018." That was in 2022.

It's just gross.

verdantverdure · 28/10/2023 13:42

It is.

At they are the party of equal opportunities then.

I remember the run in to the 1992 GE, no one thought Lab could lose, Cons had been in for 13 years, Major was embroiled in scandal, the economy on its knees...... polls closed closer to the day and the Cons won.

That was weird. I never felt that it was a certain win, and people took the piss out of me for saying so. I was vindicated by about 3am iirc. DP reminded me of this when I said I wasn't convinced that Remain would win the referendum.

Too early for predictions, obvs, but my instincts are that Labour won't have the massive landslide that some polls have been predicting from by election results, but think they will win with a reasonable majority.

One recent poll reckoned that the Tories would lose so many seats that the LDs would be the official opposition. I really can't see that happening unless it comes out that the Westminster Tories are all part of a child abuse ring or something.

BIossomtoes · 28/10/2023 14:16

I agree @LakieLady, I can’t see a landslide happening either. Or at least not unless the Tory core vote stays at home as it appears to have done in Mid Beds and Tamworth.

No one really calls the Tories the party of law and order anymore, do they.
Well I never did, but they will continue to try to peddle that lie, just as they claim to be a "low tax" party despite being a high tax one in reality.

I am very pleased to see that people appear to be finally seeing through this utter shit - see also financial (in)competence.

Of course they still call the Tories the party of law and order. And the party of low tax and economic competence.
It's not like any of it has to be true for them to use it.

Kendodd · 28/10/2023 14:28

I really can't see that happening unless it comes out that the Westminster Tories are all part of a child abuse ring or something.

I bet certain posters would still vote for them.

SerendipityJane · 28/10/2023 14:40

If forcing more and more children into destitution, poverty and the unpleasantness of climate change isn't abuse, I'm not sure what is anymore.

The Tories are fucking us all, and they don't have my consent. Not ever did.

Not being wise after the event but i argued on here that Remain will lose, the support i saw for Leave was everywhere and i knew very few remainers, funnily enough... v vocal Leavers now say they never voted!!!! seriously.

I think the media will turn on Labour, they do it now, Rachael's Reeves book hasn't been celebrated because it is praising female economists, she is instead being labelled "dishonest" "compared to students who plagiarise" "lacks attention to detail...." and this all on the BBC....

Labour hauled over the coals on whether its a humanitarian pause or a cease fire... Tories? nothing at all.

Zilch about Sunak and his Gigantic fucking plane!!!

Its going to be a problem for Labour and i'd not be betting anything on them winning.

verdantverdure · 28/10/2023 15:41

My mother claims not to have voted for Brexit now even though at the time she was calling her own children and grandchildren "Remoaners" and angrily repeating all the slogans in response to anybody suggesting that putting barriers to trade and diverging from the standards of our biggest and nearest market could only have a negative effect.

At one point she bet me £100 that tomato shortages would never ever happen.

verdantverdure · 28/10/2023 21:06

Andrew Rosindell! That's the Tory MP being investigated for sex offences that I couldn't remember!

As you were.

Enterthewolves · 30/10/2023 06:45

Morning! Another example of how a systemic failure by the current government is leading to misery in this case it’s failure to meet its own house building targets, end s21 or address rising rental costs or increase support for people struggling. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2023/oct/30/councils-in-england-facing-bankruptcy-as-lack-of-housing-pushes-up-costs

Councils in England facing bankruptcy as lack of housing pushes up costs

Budgets could be overwhelmed as evictions and rising mortgage rates cause homelessness to surge

Conservatives are currently the only party that know what a woman is. Greens and LibDems are entirely captured by trans ideology. I don’t think a man can ever be a woman. I believe we have to find a better solution than women ceding sporting podiums, places on an all female shortlists etc.

I may well hold my nose and vote Conservative. Trans ideology is authoritarian nonsense.

So the Tories has killed over 200k during Covid, managed to steal billions with the fast lane NHS contracts to mates, plundered the country, brought back the term destitution into the vocabulary, placed 1m children into poverty and homelessness, caused the deaths of thousands of marginalised and disabled people, destroyed and is still destroying the environment but at least they know what a woman is. That is all they know?

A little over 250k in this country of both sexes identify as a different gender to the one they are born with, this does not necessarily mean that they are trans but could include non-binary, intersex, etc. You are willing to destroy the country because of your hatred for a very small minority of people in this country? Good for you.

A twitter thread on this, it's long but a bit easier to read

https://x.com/NJ_Davies/status/1718880714630853047?s=20

NEW REPORT: By 2028, almost all public services will still be performing worse than pre-pandemic, which in most cases was already worse than in 2010 when the Conservatives came to power

Without a sustained change in approach, public services risk getting stuck in a doom loop

SerendipityJane · 30/10/2023 09:55

When this last happened, Victoria was on the throne. And Britain was the richest country in the world.

LakieLady · 30/10/2023 10:12

Not being wise after the event but i argued on here that Remain will lose, the support i saw for Leave was everywhere and i knew very few remainers, funnily enough... v vocal Leavers now say they never voted!!!! seriously.

Because I live in an echo chamber, in the run up, I only knew 2 people (a colleague and her husband) who were in favour of leave. It was only afterwards that another colleague said he'd voted leave, and we found out that both MIL and SIL and her husband had voted leave too. So even now, I only know a grand total of 6 people who voted leave. (Of course, many others may have lied about it lol).

MIL now regrets it. She had no idea of the difficulties it would involve with the Irish border issue, or that it might lead to labour shortages due to EU workers leaving. The colleague who voted leave regretted his vote the same evening, when his friends explained what it would mean. The other 4 are out and out racists, so would never change their minds. SIL and her DH have now fucked off to live in Australia, so aren't even having to put up with the fallout.

The Tories are fucking us all, and they don't have my consent. Not ever did.

They have the consent of all the racists. My family who all read the Daily Mail, blames everything on Bogus Asylum seekers. Even my mother when she was compos mentis would never have a word said against Margaret Thatcher or the Tories and would vote for them in a heartbeat.

The Tories have nothing to offer apart from racism, poor blaming and culture wars, which they have weaponised in conjunction with the right-wing press to victimise the most vulnerable in society, to detract from their own venality and incompetence.

The Tories and their paymasters are looting the country while people are looking the other way and pointing the finger at “feckless” single mothers, asylum seekers and the LGBTQ+ community. They have destroyed our education system so that there are a sizeable number of people who will vote against their own interests or to punish those outsiders who they blame and then there are people who say. “I’m alright Jack” and do not care or actively step on the most vulnerable in society, the destitute and the impoverished, because they are not one of them and could never believe that they would have to rely on a safety net.

What do those who announce with great pride that they are going to spoil their ballot paper think they are going to achieve? Yes, they get counted but that's it. A complete waste of time. It really won't change a thing if 99% of the electorate spoil their papers, the few remaining votes will determine the outcome. It only takes a majority of 1 to win.

I agree with George Takei on this. You can't expect to get a candidate that agrees with you exactly on everything, you make the best choice you can for democracy and for your country.
