To get DS Michael Jackson posters?

I don't know if I'm being ridiculous.

DS is 5 and has semi-recently discovered Michael Jackson. Obsessed with his music, it's always on.

He has asked for me to get him some MJ posters to put up in his room.

I feel weird about it because of the allegations made against him.

AIBU to get them and put them up?

I still listen to his music and if my son wanted to do this, I would let him

Notfeelinghunkydory · 22/10/2023 23:07

Get him the posters

SweetFemaleAttitude · 22/10/2023 23:09

I couldn't and can't even listen to his music any more.

Yes they were not proved, but a man in his 30's/40's, hung out and had sleepovers with boys a little bit older than your ds and paid millions to make the allegations disappear.

It was all very strange and I just couldn't bring myself to spend money on his merchandise.

I might get flamed but this is a forum asking for opinions, and this is my opinion.

I wouldn't put any pop posters up in a 5-yr-old's room. But luckily in RL I've never met a single 5-yr-old who'd ask for them.

Tempone · 22/10/2023 23:10

No absolutely no.

NuffSaidSam · 22/10/2023 23:11

I wouldn't.

And I'd try and steer him away from the music too.

TeeedleDum · 22/10/2023 23:13

Personally I wouldn't. I don't listen to his music anymore and don't like the idea of my child having anything to do with him

Why wouldn't you?

I wouldn't. He gives me the heebie-jeebies and I couldn't look at them.

How is a small child 'discovering' his music anyway? Just switch the channel when a suspected pedophile and definite weirdo who emotionally abused children starts singing.

StarlightLime · 22/10/2023 23:17

A 5 year old "discovered" Michael Jackson? And is so obsessed that he wants his picture on his bedroom wall? Sure...

Witchesdontburn · 22/10/2023 23:20

There’s a brilliant Michael Jackson tribute act I went to by accident. I mess surprised at how many children were there dressed up in MJ costumes. It seems to be a thing

You can enjoy the music without the dubious pleasure of listening to the actual person.

God absolutely not

Tighginn · 22/10/2023 23:31

Get him one with Jarvis in it!

BringMeTea · 22/10/2023 23:33

Sure, get him a Jim'll Fix It medal too.

Witchesdontburn · 22/10/2023 23:34

People enjoy the art work of all sorts of depraved artists, it seems odd that we only pick on a few to demonise. MJ is the least of it and nothing was proved in his case.
Eric Gill whose beautiful sculptures decorate the BBC and Winchester cathedral, raped his daughters when they were children and wrote about it. Nobody seems to make a fuss about that.

HoppingPavlova · 22/10/2023 23:35

No. I would not get my child posters of a grown man who gave inducements for children to sleep over (and in his bed), and then paid an enormous amount of hush money to make the kids allegations that he was a paedophile go away. Surprised anyone would.

MadamVastra · 22/10/2023 23:35

Like this is true 🙄

Sure, get him a Jim'll Fix It medal too.

And a didgeridoo for good measure

elgreco · 22/10/2023 23:37

Yawn

If my DD wanted his posters in her bedroom I'd make a fuss.

toadasoda · 22/10/2023 23:38

It comes down to whether you believe the art can be separated from the artist. Personally I would separate the two, I'd get the poster. I think MJ was a great dancer and performer, still love his music.

Libertass · 22/10/2023 23:40

Putting up posters in a child’s bedroom of a serial predatory paedophile who built fairgrounds rides in his garden to groom his victims?

Probably not a good idea…

Tourmalines · 22/10/2023 23:41

No no no !

Isittimeformynapyet · 22/10/2023 23:42

You're the MJ fan, aren't you...

TeaGinandFags · 22/10/2023 23:45

The man is dead but his music lives on.

Get the posters and let your son enjoy them. He'll survive. These are adult concerns.
