To get DS Michael Jackson posters?

I don't know if I'm being ridiculous.

DS is 5 and has semi-recently discovered Michael Jackson. Obsessed with his music, it's always on.

He has asked for me to get him some MJ posters to put up in his room.

I feel weird about it because of the allegations made against him.

AIBU to get them and put them up?

Nope. You have control and can make this 'obsession' disappear. Your child is 5 not 15. Is this a serious question?

I think the answer to that is "no".

The thing is, whilst there is no getting away from Michael Jackson's unusually genius talent, there are other equally brilliant people whose music is amazing who managed to not abuse children. Like George Michael for example.

I'd say go for it, it's not like he's going to come through the posters is it?!

RantyAnty · 23/10/2023 20:35

Of course. The fad will last 6 months to a year and then he won't care about it anymore.

Wrt comparisons being made to work by sculptors and painters with unpleasant backgrounds -

it would be hard to completely remove every single thing like this from your surroundings but not impossible. You would have to research everything in depth to discover and rule everything dodgy out.

However surely if the info. is common knowledge it's an easy decision not to chose to listen to it/see it/have it on your wall?

Catlover77 · 23/10/2023 21:24

Yes. I would get him a Rolf Harris and a Mike Tyson poster at the same time

🤔 ok he won't turn up through the posters but do you really want him as a poster boy on your kids wall?

HRTQueen · 25/10/2023 00:04

No I wouldn’t

I still have his music on some of my playlists but I can’t celebrate him anymore even if he was phenomenally talented

Mydogmybestfriend · 25/10/2023 02:18

I say get the posters. I don't believe the allegations personally.
I know so many kids under 6/7 who enjoy his music

And some Garry Glitter memorabilia while you're at it!
