Why are there so many single parents

Don't mean to offend anyone but I am new to UK and noticed there are so many single parents.
I am from Asia and most families I know have two parents so I am just curious about it.

I don't think it's a problem specific to the UK tbh

Because many relationships are unhappy and thankfully we live in a society where you don’t have to put up with that shit, regardless of whether there are kids involved.

People knowing their worth and leaving shitty partners? Not wanting to get into new relationships and so put their children first?

Many colleagues are single parents and this is all new to me.

Because a lot of men are nasty, cruel, adulterous bastards and women are not obliged to put up with it.

How do you know they're single and the other parent isn't just at home or work?

You’re going to get a lot of posters saying the reasons are multifold and none of your business. There is obviously a very different culture in Asia to the prevailing culture in the UK!

Because in this country we're not peer pressured to stay with men we hate just because they have impregnated us at some point.

All of the above plus woman getting pregnant without a thought to the longer term plan knowing the government will support them.

Culturally we accept that it is worse for children to live with parents together in an unhappy marriage than in a happily single parent unit. That's all really.

Because we can.

Women don't have to be miserable anymore running around like blue arsed flies after useless blokes.

When we get to a certain age, we realise life is nicer without men.

Because I'm a widow. My husband died when our kids were 4 and 6.

Bear in mind its extremely variable throughout british society.

I live in a more rural, affluent community and divorce is relatively less common, in other areas its more common.

Clearly religion & culture play a huge part. There's no pressure at all to marry before having sex or starring a family.
