What’s the most ridiculous price that someone has offered you?

Currently selling a pushchair for £70. It was used for less than a year as I got pregnant again and had to purchase a double buggy, so it’s in great condition!

Guess how much someone offered to purchase it for? £15😂 like really? Come on now.

It just made me think, what’s the silliest price someone has offered to pay when you’ve tried to sell something?

Presumably, you’ve advertised it at £70? That doesn’t mean that you’ll sell it for £70.

Pretendthatwearedead · 22/10/2023 17:51

I gave away all my baby stuff no matter how new it was. £15 for a used pushchair may not be what you want but it isn't ridiculous. If it is all someone can afford them they may as well offer. Just politely decline the offer.

Of course not but I’m selling it to someone else for £60 in a few days. The lowest I would have sold the buggy for would have been £55.

Since when do people offer the first price that comes into mind? Surely you try and bargain with £10/£15 off the advertised price and not £55….

Offering £55 less than the advertised price absolutely is ridiculous

I actually don't think that's too ridiculous. Baby stuff loses its value fairly quickly. I sold my cot and stuff really cheaply and I think I just gave my pram away.

Of course you can just turn down the offer which you did so I can't see the issue.

nutbrownhare15 · 22/10/2023 17:55

Well if that's what they'd like to pay there is no harm in offering. If you had had no other offers or interest after a few days and just wanted rid then I can see a chance that someone might say yes, possibly bargaining up from there.

IDontDrinkTea · 22/10/2023 17:56

That seems about the value of a second hand pram tbh. They don’t hold their value at all, I’d assume your £70 was a typo

PinkMoscatoLover · 22/10/2023 17:58

Thank you for your experiences guys! They gave me a right chuckle😆

Seriously though, I didn’t post to go back and forth with people other whether it was a suitable offer or not. Someone could ask to purchase it for £5 and I’d still think it was a silly price. I was more interested in hearing other peoples experience’s with selling something and being offered a low price that was way off the mark!

Good for you but not everyone can afford to do that. When my D's was little I had to sell outgrown to fund the next item, e.g. sell moses basket to help pay for high chair and so on.

If you're able to donate that's great but there will always be a market for nearly-new baby items.

OP I know what you mean some people are just really cheeky! I always put 'collection only' and people will always ask for delivery!

Devilsmommy · 22/10/2023 17:59

My first travel system was used for all of 4 months, amazing condition and I just donated it to Barnados. Couldn't be bothered with all the haggling and at least someone will get it at a good price. It was brought for me so why not pass it along?

Trampley · 22/10/2023 18:00

I was selling a camera lens, new price was £3200, used price fair condition was £1900, mine was 2 months old, 5* condition, I advertised it for £1700.

I had someone offering £200, because they would have to travel to collect it and petrol is expensive.

It depends. How much did it originally cost?

Haha same! I always put collection only as it’s easier for me and someone asked me if I can meet them in Illford. I’m 1 hour and 30 minutes away in Streatham😂 I mean if you don’t ask, you don’t get but come on!

Not me but a friend. Advertised used double buggy on EBay, two bidders got into a bidding war and she ended up getting about £10 more than she had paid for it new.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 22/10/2023 18:03

I was selling an iPhone for £180-£200 (I forget how much exactly).

Someone offered me £35 because I wasn't going to get "more than £90 for it anyway".

Logic, that.

No way😆 were you able to sell it for a price closer to your asking price in the end?

My point is exactly that not everyone can afford to pay £70 for a pushchair. What's the need for the "good for you" about?

Bigcat25 · 22/10/2023 18:08

My mil was selling a brand new $20 item at a garage sale, prices a $2.00. She was offered 20 cents. It put her off trying to sell anything forever, and she just donates now. She was going through a rough time and was insulted at the waste of time and effort. I hear you op, it's rude.

I sold it for the asking price, a few people wanted it! I didn't reply to the cheeky fecker 😂

I don't agree with the poster that said you don't expect to sell an item for what you list it at - why on earth not?

Saschka · 22/10/2023 18:11

You usually get a load of chancers asking if they can just have it for free. £15 seems ok in comparison!

Haha brilliant!

Whenever I sell something, I always add a bit more onto the price as I know some people would like to negotiate the price. I’m selling the pushchair for £60 so I’m happy with that:)

If I see something for sale I tend to ask myself if it’s a good price and if it is I’ll pay the full asking price, if not I might try and negotiate a bit. But I think for some people it’s all about the haggling and getting it for as low as possible, regardless.

I have a clear-out and sell at car boots sales once or twice a year. Every time, you can guarantee it, I’ll say something is 20p and I’ll be offered 10p! It doesn’t matter what the thing is, it could even be brand new with a label for £100 and they’d still try and haggle - it’s not obviously it’s probably just a book but you get the idea.

I get negotiating can be part of it, but not 20p to 10p!
