What’s the most ridiculous price that someone has offered you?

Currently selling a pushchair for £70. It was used for less than a year as I got pregnant again and had to purchase a double buggy, so it’s in great condition!

Guess how much someone offered to purchase it for? £15😂 like really? Come on now.

It just made me think, what’s the silliest price someone has offered to pay when you’ve tried to sell something?

That seems about the value of a second hand pram tbh. They don’t hold their value at all, I’d assume your £70 was a typo

Well surely that depends on the price of it when new and its condition.
If it’s a cheapo pram, sure. But if it was a £400-£500 pram you’re not going to sell it for nothing?
(You can, but that’s daft).

for example Doona car seats “on wheels” brand new are around £300-£350 and they often sell used for £150 on gumtree or eBay.

I was selling a Pokemon game on gumtree for my son a couple of years ago for £35 (which was less than loads of buy it nows on eBay for the same game) and had this interaction

He's right about your attitude, that was uncalled for! He only asked. A cheeky offer doesn't give you a free pass to be abusive

Rewis · 22/10/2023 18:55

I was giving away stuff for free and several people asked if I'd be willing to deliver it to their house.

HerMammy · 22/10/2023 18:57

Brand new sewing machine (on behalf of elderly friend) worth £200, advertised for £120, got a msg asking if I'd take £50 and deliver it 10 miles away 🤣

This is the very reason I can’t be arsed to list the baby stuff I need to sell, I need to mentally prepare myself for the stupid offers that people send.
i also don’t understand why there’s a weird pressure to just give away everything baby related to people who can’t afford as much. I’ve given shit loads of clothes, etc away but if I want to try and make a few quid back ok something that’s cost me reasonable money why should we feel guilty about that.

You shouldn’t.
Just ignore anyone selling you silly prices or have a ready format text that says “sorry, I can’t accept that. I could consider £x and above, let me know if it suits.”

tennesseewhiskey1 · 22/10/2023 18:58

know someone with a house priced for 1.25m - they were offered 915k.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 22/10/2023 18:58

Had an item advertised at £250. Had the following conversation with a random:

Them: what’s lowest you’ll take?
me: £250
Them: £100?
me: £250

A week later…
Them: Will you take £125?
Me: £250

Another week later…
Them: What’s lowest you’ll go to?
Me: £250

😂

FeverBeam · 22/10/2023 18:59

I was selling a bag on Vinted for £150 and I got a message saying 'would you accept £40?'.

I understand the concept of 'you don't ask, you don't get' but stop clogging up my inbox with your silly offer.

I sold the bag soon afterwards for £150.

Thank you!

All of the ‘I’d just donate all baby stuff to charity’ comments are so unnecessary. Like well done to you, give yourself a pat on the back. I often donate clothes but I need the money which then gets put towards something else for the kids.

I sold my daughters trainers for £13 and they were originally bought for £28. I topped it up by £7 to buy her another pair of shoes. Not everyone can donate every single item to charity just because others do.

I’ll sell my buggy for £60 and be done with it! Not sure why there were so comments trying to guilt trip me

Depending on the pram they absolutely do hold their value. I bought an Ocarro second hand for £125, used it for 18 months and sold it on for the same price. I'll be doing the same with my double Out n About soon as they are still going for the same price I paid for mine. It's rude to offer ridiculously low.

I offered a chair for free on Freecycle. I got asked by one person, who said they were interested, what I could do to sweeten the deal. I pointed out it was free, and they said could I throw something else in to sweeten the deal. I said how about I throw in that the chair will cost you £20.... Never heard back from them. Lol.

The cheek!🤣

I was selling a piece of furniture for £20 and had a message from someone asking if I'd deliver to a place in Wales. I replied saying sorry I'm not posting and got back 'can you drop it off'. So I replied again saying you must have got my location mixed up, I'm in Suffolk and roughly 5 hours from Wales, I got back 'yes I know that, it was worth asking' Confused was baffled that someone thought they actually had a chance that I'd do a 10 hour round trip for £20! Was just a bog standard side board too

😂😂😂 I love how they came back a week later offering £125 as if you’d jump at the offer

To be honest, around here it's really difficult to even give baby stuff away because no one wants used baby stuff. I just gave away loads of baby stuff to a local politician who helps the homeless. No one else wanted it. It was a moses basket and clean used clothes etc...

Really??? 😳
next time stick it on Vinted for £1
like 10 grows or equivalent and most people would snatch it up in my experience.

frazzledasarock · 22/10/2023 19:04

Years ago when they were new I was selling a Phil and teds buggy with additional seat and accessories. People kept messaging me sad stories asking if I’d just let them have the buggy, for free.

Is that you Lewis? To be fair to me he was about the sixth or seventh person who had offered a silly offer in the first hour of it being listed (it was near Christmas and a relatively recently released game). And whilst ‘no. Go away’ hardly counts as abuse I did say sorry straight away (as well as selling it for the asking price about 20 mins later).

Comedycook · 22/10/2023 19:07

Did a bootfair ages ago...I was selling a buggy. It wasn't a high end one...like one of those ones you'd take on holiday or have as a spare. I only wanted £5 for it. A woman wanted to give me £1. I was fed up so said she could have it for £3. She spent absolutely ages trying to argue the toss with me.

At same boot fair, at end of day, a woman came over and picked up a handbag I was selling. Asked how much? I said 10p...she put it back down..I mean ffs, how little do you want to pay ?!

Will never ever do a boot fair again.

Callipygion · 22/10/2023 19:07

Opposite to what you’re talking about, but I put our double garage door on eBay for 50p because our builder wouldn’t take it away. His jaw dropped when I told him I got £240 for it. Someone drove around 180 miles with a trailer (in thick snow!) to collect it.

Lizzieregina · 22/10/2023 19:07

All these posts remind me of why I gave up either trying to sell things or even give them away!! CFs wanting things delivered or free of charge.

Now I have a guy who works with a needy population, so he gets all household goods. A thrift shop that helps developmentally Disabled adults live independently gets all the “bought but never worn/used” stuff and I keep an eye on requests for stuff on a FB page and just give it directly if I have it and no longer need.

ActDottie · 22/10/2023 19:14

I don’t know, depends on the brand of the buggy really as to what it’s really worth. Some brands are a lot more desirable.

Sharontheodopolodous · 22/10/2023 19:15

My time

I work with a woman who makes her business everyone's business-every problem is shared in great detail

Anyway, she had no childcare one day (can't remember why dad or her new lover couldn't have them) and she asked every single one of her colleagues to have them

These kids are rude, nasty, thieving and spoilt (due to her and the dads lazy parenting) so nobody was keen

I'd been on holiday so missed her going round everyone so once I was back, she made a beeline for me

I said I'd do it for £30 for 8 hours of childcare, she had to provide a packed lunch for them and pick them up on time (which I thought was fair-its less than min wage)

Well!she went mental-she went round howling that I should be GRATEFUL she'd asked me to have her kids, how DARE I ask her for a packed lunch?she couldnt afford to pay me (but could afford to get pissed every night) i should be on my knees with gratitude that she was allowing me to feed them and that I should be walking a 4 mile round trip with them-picking them up and dropping them back

She didn't work that shift and I'm still the one in the wrong for not being her unpaid childminder

She's gone back on the sick for now (due to stress apparently-again) so don't have to see her until this sick note runs out

I just know that this will be 'forgotten' about the next time she needs childcare-i won't be doing it

Oh I had this too with a tumble dryer!! Something about he had four kids and had to dry their clothes. A tumble dryer isn’t really a necessity either which is why we were selling it (just moved into a house with one)

Suunnyd · 22/10/2023 19:16

I think if someone is selling something for £70, to offer £15 is ridiculous. Whether the item is worth £70 is a matter of opinion but if the seller wants £70, they wont sell for £15.

notacooldad · 22/10/2023 19:20

The lowest I would have sold the buggy for would have been £55
What would you have done with buggy if it didn't sell for that.

SkyFullofStars1975 · 22/10/2023 19:25

FB Marketplace is horrendous for this. We took our woodburner out when we had a new fireplace and inset one fitted, and we'd originally paid about £1800 for it. Given energy prices, we listed it at £400 as it was immaculate, had the fitting/use instructions.

Had one guy ring up saying he had a van, could be with us in half and hour and he'd give me £50 cash. And got really huffy when I said no thanks. We could have sold it ten times over in the end, and got £500 for it!
