I’m awake this time on a Sunday because…

…DH woke me up at 6:30am, boiling the kettle. He also woke 3 x young DC up.

Who is BU?

He’s always been an early riser. But the kettle is so loud it wakes the whole house up. Why does he need a coffee at 6:30am?!

I'm up because it's my normal wake up time.

If you are all woken up by boiling the kettle, maybe you need a quieter kettle? I don't think it's unreasonable for your DH to want to make himself a drink if he's up.

cryinglaughing · 22/10/2023 06:54

Can you get a quieter kettle?
Many people like a brew to start their day, so I can understand why he wants one.

I am up because I am unnecessarily fretting about my horse 🥴

FoleyHuck · 22/10/2023 06:56

I hope he at least brought you a coffee OP? He's not unreasonable to be up but he is to wake everyone else. Maybe time to invest in a quieter kettle?

We've been awake since just before 6am as we're jet lagged. Coffee done and about to get up and start sorting post-holiday laundry etc.

SouthernBel · 22/10/2023 06:56

I'm awake because....

my husband left his phone in the baby's room last night, forgot to turn his work alarm off, and the inevitable happened 🙃 it's my day to get up with the baby so here we are!

Goldwakeme · 22/10/2023 06:56

He needs to make a flask of coffee at night and keep it by the bed! That's so thoughtless to wake everyone.

EarringsandLipstick · 22/10/2023 06:56

How can a kettle be that loud?

He's BU if he knows this & didn't eg shut the kitchen door.

But you're UR to object to him having a coffee.

And you must have very light sleeping DC if a kettle boiling woke all 3!

Anyway, he's up now & happy to be, so he can look after the DC, you go back to bed. Sorted.

Oh no! What's up with them? Fellow horse owner here, they do like to worry us!

Nooooo. That'd be an immediate switch of 'turns' for me.

MelRoc · 22/10/2023 06:56

I get up at 6am for work and leave whilst everyone else is still asleep. I am also generally an early riser. I will often have a coffee at 6am as that’s when I get up! I didn’t wake anyone as I could shut the kitchen door and block the noise in but I was worried about it so bought a quiet kettle. Send your DH a link to one!

JofraArchersFastestBall · 22/10/2023 06:57

Agreed, did he leave all of the door's between you and the kitchen open? Or is your house fully open plan?!
You need a quieter kettle or a way of sound proofing your house.

CasperGutman · 22/10/2023 06:57

Assuming the kettle is in the kitchen and you're all asleep in bedrooms, with doors closed between, I don't think he's unreasonable to boil the kettle. 6:30 is early-ish, but not the middle of the night. I can't remember the last time I slept later than that, barring jet lag etc.

Oh no - that idiocy by DH trumps the schedule. He definitely needs to get up with DC!

Sourisblanche · 22/10/2023 06:57

We are awake and have just made tea, but my dc are teens and will sleep through anything.

OrlandointheWilderness · 22/10/2023 06:58

I'm awake because my mothers dog which is staying with us was howling.

MelRoc · 22/10/2023 06:58

Also, I am awake this time on a Sunday because… I have a horrible cold which woke me up at 5am 🤧

Nothankyou22 · 22/10/2023 06:58

I’m on holiday and rolling over on my sunburn woke me up, can’t complain really haha

🤣🤣 I agree! The reason I agreed was that he got up with them at 4am yesterday, but still! I am salty about it!!

stayathomer · 22/10/2023 06:59

A kettle is different to mowing the lawn, hoovering or (tries to look innocent): throwing on the washing machine! Your kettle must be very loud or else you’re very light sleepers!

AhBiscuits · 22/10/2023 06:59

Most people want a coffee when they wake up. It must be really loud if it woke the whole house. Time for a new kettle.

NegativNancy · 22/10/2023 07:00

I'm awake because I made the mistake of breathing wrong and the cats took that as I sign I am ready to get up and make them a the course meal.
And to be fair I'm going into work today to clear some of the backlog of tasks and would rather do that early 😔

Hollyhead · 22/10/2023 07:00

I just woke up, anything from 6am onwards is normal for me so I feel like I’ve had a lie in!

NoSquirrels · 22/10/2023 07:00

Leave the care of the young DC with the fully caffeinated DH and go back to sleep, OP!

I’m awake because the dog needed to go outside, but I‘m back in bed now and will snooze again in a bit.

loudbatperson · 22/10/2023 07:00

You need a quieter kettle. It's completely normal and reasonable to want a hot drink when you wake. I would say it is part of most peoples get up routine

pilates · 22/10/2023 07:00

You all must be incredibly light sleepers to wake up with a kettle boiling. Did he shut the kitchen door?
