…DH woke me up at 6:30am, boiling the kettle. He also woke 3 x young DC up.

Who is BU?

He’s always been an early riser. But the kettle is so loud it wakes the whole house up. Why does he need a coffee at 6:30am?!

I'm awake because I am in hospital and they start the medication round at 5.30. Been awake most of the night as there are a couple of confused people who scream all night as if they are being tortured. Hoping to be discharged today.

Fingers crossed that you can go home today and get some rest there.

scarloha · 22/10/2023 07:53

Oh god you and my DH should live together. The kettle being on or the toilet flush going at 6/630am is apparently equivalent to me bursting into the bedroom clanging giant cymbals. I try to restrict my schedule (eg stay in bed as late as possible just wasting time because I feel shit/can’t start my day until I’ve had my morning brew) but honestly I feel that those who can’t sleep like normal people need to just suck it up… The disability, anomaly, or whatever is yours!

Sympathies OP. DH is an early riser. DD4 is a mega light sleeper; she wakes up every morning when he goes to the loo, despite white noise.

I’d send the children down and stay in bed. At the weekends DD2 comes into bed with me in the mornings and we have a lovely long snooze while the weird non sleepers entertain themselves.

I was up at 6.15am because my 4 year old needed to ask "what body parts is a fringe"?

Binningtonianrose · 22/10/2023 07:59

Because I am a lonely empty nester, and my cousin visited with her twin boys.
I woke up at 6;30 to the delightful sound of five years olds giggling and chattering as quietly as they could. It's lovely!

Girasoli · 22/10/2023 08:01

I'm up because DS2 woke up at 5am. Luckily he just potters about calmly eating breakfast and playing and I can drink coffee and mumsnet.

I'm in a holiday cottage and I was so hot ....at home I sleep with summer duvet and no heating ...here is massive heavy duvet and my husband is in the bed too ....taking it over ...at home I sleep in a kind bed alone ha ha
I'm on sofa listening to the birds ....it's silent ..Devon countryside

NancyJoan · 22/10/2023 08:06

I’ve been awake since 6:30, in a hotel room that is hotter than the sun. Feel like I’m being boiled alive.

SALWARP2023 · 22/10/2023 08:12

Buy him a nice quiet coffee maker. I'm an early riser and try to be quiet but it's difficult for 2 or 3 hours every day. Give him a few things you want doing to work through. Either that or keep him in bed with a promise of morning sex!

Moredarkchocolateplease · 22/10/2023 08:12

OP you need teenagers.

I wake up about 5 every morning. I can empty the dishwasher, grind coffee beans, make coffee, hoover, have a shower, and then have three hours to myself before DH or teens wake up.

It gets better as the children get older!

MrsTulip · 22/10/2023 08:14

I was up at 6:30 because I'm preaching and the Sunday school kids are leading our church service this morning so I needed to finish downloading music and editing the order of service PowerPoint. Also as it's the church anniversary, we are having a shared lunch after service so said I would bring a fruit platter so needed to wash and cut up all the fruit. I'm now on my second coffee and browsing on here. Don't need to leave home until just after 9am

My 10 month old alarm clock woke up at 7.30am today - it was a miracle considering 5.30am has been his usual wake up the past few weeks.
I used to love when the clocks changed in autumn and we get an extra hour in bed but now I’m dreading it 😂😂

Just remembered… they are called Reolink … voted best horse camera by H&H.

Definitely get a camera - I would hope that it isn't anyone letting her out and she's just one of those incredibly smart cookies who can let herself out. Maybe pop up a chain or stable screen as well??

I am working on my business.

Zanatdy · 22/10/2023 08:49

I’m always up early on a Sunday, I am every day, don’t sleep beyond 6.30am. Weekdays I think it’s good if I get to 5am. Just have sleep issues these days, age related probably

How can a kettle be that loud?

He's BU if he knows this & didn't eg shut the kitchen door.

But you're UR to object to him having a coffee.

And you must have very light sleeping DC if a kettle boiling woke all 3!

Anyway, he's up now & happy to be, so he can look after the DC, you go back to bed. Sorted.

We are looking for a new kettle after redecorating. I've only bought ones advertised 'quiet boil'. All 3 have gone back because they were so loud. One you could not hold a conversation in the kitchen while it was boiling. Its ridiculous and I am honestly not a fussy person who demands quiet!

I'm one of nature's larks, so have been awake since 6, but I feel for any night owls in my street who normally enjoy a lie in on a Sunday.

A noisy van pulled up at the house across the road at 8.40, unloaded loads of clattery tools and started digging up their drive with a pneumatic drill on the dot of 9. I'm guessing it's not an emergency to do with gas or water, as it's an unmarked van, not one from the water company and I'm pretty sure that the gas and electric companies use liveried vans too.

The owners have had building work going on for a few months and have had contractors working Saturdays and Sundays, so they've got form for it.

This made me snort at cymbals clanging.

He’s also woken me in the middle of the night blowing his nose too loudly! I wear ear plugs too…
