Baby on Board Stickers

MeetyouatMidnight · 21/10/2023 10:21

Why do they irrationally annoy me? Is it anyone else?

@ZiriForEver

Which space would I park in? The one that's easier to park in or closer to the store I'm going to.

Are you seriously suggesting that you think people check what stickers a car is sporting before they park up? Because I'm pretty sure that's not something that most people do.

Edited

It seems that so many people are allergic to the stickers, that yes, I expect some people notice sometimes. Especially those with big and shiny cars.

ComeOutSun · 22/10/2023 01:08

Darn and here was me thinking disclosing my penchant for cutsie things like my dog stuff would just stoke the fire and increased the pile on.

Firsttimemum623 · 22/10/2023 01:35

Not sure why anyone finds something that literally has zero impact on their life annoying? If a baby on board sign makes even one driver think twice before doing a stupid dangerous manoeuvre then it's worth it imo. It doesn't cause any harm to anyone else, so why not?

LadyTrunchbull · 22/10/2023 01:44

I want one of those 'Baby in Boot' ones.

Fionaville · 22/10/2023 02:01

I remember way back when, my colleagues gifting me a 'baby on board' sign, in a hamper when I left to have my eldest. I had that first time parent excitement putting it in my car, it went well with my belief that everyone in the world should know that I had a baby...wow!! So no, I wouldn't piss on anybodies parade, just because they want everyone to know they have a baby in the car. Let them have their moment and move along.

UnwantedOpinionBelow · 22/10/2023 02:11

They remind me of 'P' plates. Absolutely pointless, the person behind with either drive considerably or not, regardless of your sign.

Are there no restrictions on P platers in Britain? Here there are, such as having a zero BAC level. The plates (which are mandatory) are as much about what a driver may or may not do as about other drivers' reactions to them. They do also indicate how long you've been driving, at least if you were under 25 when you got your license (P1 is red, P2 is green).

Totes agree…but I quite like this one

Signs on property round here are usually related to what pets might be found within. Either 'Beware of the Dog' showing a suitably scary looking dog, or 'humorous' ones:

My vet used to have one on his consulting room door “Dogs welcome, children must be kept on lead”.

Zebedee55 · 22/10/2023 07:26

Those "dogs on board" or "cats on board" (annoying enough), seem to have morphed into "championship winning cats/dogs on board".🙄

Who cares? 🤔

More embarrassed for you. I was around when they were invented. But if it makes you feel better.

I'm almost 60 and was around when the myth was first debunked.

GoodOldEmmaNess · 22/10/2023 07:34

I'm 60 and can remember when these stickers first appeared. Mothercare doled them out as a marketing freebie to new parents buying car seats etc. They were only ever a bit of pointless promo tat. This was a period when bumper stickers with 'hilarious' gags such as 'Windsurfers do it standing up' were a bit of a craze, making the idea of such marketing freebies quite popular.
The idea that they were some sort of emergency services aid didn't come along until much much later - a retrofitted fantasy explanation for something that was never intended to have any purpose at all (except to flog baby equipment)..

ButtonSister · 22/10/2023 07:34

Aka "Smug Parents on Board"

sep135 · 22/10/2023 07:36

Loathe them. Very precious first born.

Going against the flow, I don't mind the pregnant tube badges. You have the possibility that someone might offer their seat without the embarrassment of having to ask.

It's the inference that the driver is somehow deserving of special treatment. And others are inferior.

If urban myth 1 were true it would mean the emergency services are so thick that they only look for passengers if they've seen a sign saying they are present. Insulting.

If urban myth 2 were true it would mean that other drivers are reminded not to drive like imbeciles because the car in front has a baby in it. Call me old-fashioned but I tend to drive fairly respectfully and without the urge to ram the arse of the car in front whoever is in it. Insulting.

If urban myth 3 were true- that we are supposed to think "jeez, the person in front has had a baby. They're going to be totally incompetent drivers now". Well...you get the message.

I just figure their lives must be pretty easy to even have room to get annoyed about such trivial stuff.

Yep, I'm that person. I add it to my ragey list of playing videos on the tube with the sound on, posting anything on FB with a hashtag (see #makingmemories and #mumofboys) and people who don't pay at the pump but go inside (the elderly, those without cards and convenience shoppers excused).

All trivial but all worthy of at least an eye roll, with the option to upgrade along the anger spectrum in the right circumstances.

Fusterclucked · 22/10/2023 08:09

What about those sunflower disability stickers? Are they rage inducing? I can’t say I take much notice of what anyone decorates their car with but I’ve noticed these

Of course not.
They were introduced to protect those with hidden disabilities from discrimination.

Not to sell carseats. .

What a strange comparison.

I can see how they could be niggles. Since you think your life is easy I hope it to stay that way for you. I've seen how ugly it can get and I don't wish that for anyone.

I suffer from white coat syndrome and the only time I've ever had normal blood pressure at the doctor was when I was so unconcerned about it he could have told me I had a week to live and I'd just have shrugged and there would have been no emotional reaction at all. As you can imagine, that space doesn't leave any room for niggles.

I don't know about the stickers but one of my kids has a lanyard. That shouldn't be rage inducing because that's functional and gives important information to authorities. I use it at the airport.

MeetyouatMidnight · 22/10/2023 08:14

What does it matter how easy or hard someone’s life is? Mine has had its own ups and downs.. I’ve got quite a lot going on at the moment actually.

bit it doesn’t mean you can’t also have minor niggles an annoyances and be in the mundane sometimes.

my life is not defined by the bad things

I was being slightly tongue in cheek (I've had the year from hell on many fronts). But I find my tolerance is definitely inversely related to my age.

Then you are lucky. My life is very much defined by something exceptionally bad. It was easy prior to that.
