it was an assortment of random unhealthy snacks… 🤔 Yes, I appreciate he was in a rush but aibu to think is pretty bad? I mean how long does it take to throw some fruit and yogurt in a bowl. Give me strength 🙄

Ok I'll rephrase my comment about it not being the end of the world to why does it matter if it's a one off.

femfemlicious · 20/10/2023 10:52

What🫨?!. He couldn't do toast or cereal?. That's horrible 😭

butterpuffed · 20/10/2023 10:53

So did you change the breakfast after you'd taken the photo ? If so , problem solved .

arethereanyleftatall · 20/10/2023 10:53

That is really shit parenting.

Either - he thinks it's funny. It isn't. Or he has done it deliberately so that you have to do it next time.

Both options are absolutely shit, not sure which is worse.

My autistic 3 year old has a little dairy milk bar and a baby bottle of formula each morning - the dietician told us don’t worry it’s just calories 🤦‍♀️ have to laugh or I’ll cry but I know she is talking sense !

My autistic 7 year old has either banana bread and fruit or wholemeal toast with fig and cinnamon jam every day for breakfast…
Also had dietician tell me that all and any calories he consumes are needed (not that my DM believes me!).

Give0fecks · 20/10/2023 10:54

@Lavender14 donyou mind sharing the recipe for overnight oats pls? I cannot for the life of me get it right! I find it still needs so much faff in the morning getting it back to the right consistency and it takes ages!!

viques · 20/10/2023 10:54

Teegan89 · 20/10/2023 10:30

No, he’s doesn’t have a sweet tooth. His would be a sausage roll or something. I asked him to be more mindful.

I congratulate you on your verbal restraint!

Nowherenew · 20/10/2023 10:54

StoneColdAlibi · 20/10/2023 10:45

So she'd have stopped her toddler from eating it presumably?

That was probably his plan.

Mess up breakfast so bad that OP would have to make it anyway and not be asked to do it again.

Kellogg1 · 20/10/2023 10:55

If it’s a one off who gives a hoot. It’s food. The kid is probably over the moon 😆

DuplicateUserName · 20/10/2023 10:55

OP, are you going to come back and tell us who took the photo and why?

McIntire · 20/10/2023 10:56

😂 brilliant!
Obviously not ideal.

gelatogina · 20/10/2023 10:56

Is he normally this shit at parenting?

itsallnewnow · 20/10/2023 10:56

takealettermsjones · 20/10/2023 10:22

Jesus. I know my kids' breakfasts could be better but at the very least it's cereal and milk. Cake and biscuits for breakfast is shit at any age.

Yep I'm feeling a lot better about the fact mine have cereal on school days lol

SouthLondonMum22 · 20/10/2023 10:56

Growlybear83 · 20/10/2023 10:51

Ok I'll rephrase my comment about it not being the end of the world to why does it matter if it's a one off.

It matters because it is the most basic of basic thing to give a 2 year old an appropriate breakfast. Pouring cereal and milk isn't difficult, shoving some bread in the toaster also isn't difficult and neither is opening a banana.

It's pure laziness, probably in hopes that OP will never ask him again.

GingerIsBest · 20/10/2023 10:57

Weaponised incompetence here. I bet you don't ask him to do breakfast again. And if you do, and then get cross when he does another shit job, you'll be blamed for "nagging" or "nothing is ever good enough"

McIntire · 20/10/2023 10:57

The problem could be that you have that much available crap food in the house anyway.

ShinyPebble32 · 20/10/2023 10:58

Nuclear grade weaponised incompetence!!

Although I do agree with the poster above - what do you have all that shite in the house anyway. You can get sweet snacks which actually have some nutrition in them, and aren’t just made of palm oil and dextrose etc

MamaToABeautifulBoy · 20/10/2023 10:58

Well that’s pure laziness. What an arse your DH is.

I showed this to DH and he said ‘you don’t know how lucky you are’… he was joking but it highlights how, even in 2023, some men seem to think it’s not really their responsibility to look after their children as well as their wives, and if they do, they are some kind of anomaly.

homeEd2023 · 20/10/2023 10:59

There is a threshold where inadequate parenting becomes neglect. He's passed it.

Nowherenew · 20/10/2023 11:00

McIntire · 20/10/2023 10:57

The problem could be that you have that much available crap food in the house anyway.

A grown adult can eat whatever they want and buy whatever food they like.

It has nothing to do with the toddlers diet.

I’m sure there’s also alcohol in the house, it doesn’t mean it should be given to the child.

Godwindar · 20/10/2023 11:00

Lavender14 · 20/10/2023 10:29

He's going to set them up for a complete sugar high and then crash. I'd be raging. There's no need for that at all if you had fruit and yoghurt in the house.

Does he like to play good cop a lot? It looks like he's wanted to give a 'treat' breakfast because there's no way he could think that's an acceptable breakfast for a 2 yo.

If mornings are really chaotic, ds loves overnight oats with natural yoghurt, ready brek and fruit in it. I freeze in batches so it just needs left out to defrost and it's ready for the morning.

Thing is oats/ready brek are very carby and will cause insulin spike and crash. Better as there is protein with them as it will level it a bit, but still very carby.

Mamai90 · 20/10/2023 11:01

I'm lenient when it comes to food but even I'd be pissed off about this. It looks like something my 12 year old nephew would put together for my 2 year old! Even a banana would have been sufficient.

TerfTalking · 20/10/2023 11:01

CurlewKate · 20/10/2023 10:46

@TerfTalking "He would have got far worse from me for that appalling "effort". That would be poor for my MIL, who once gave mine hot dogs for breakfast as they asked for sausages and she didn't have any."
What's the problem with this?

Hot dogs? for breakfast?

Hot Dogs: What They Do to Your Body | Time

Just no.

I'm no nutrition obsessive, but that isn't far behind the bowl of biscuits IMO.

Taylorswiftserastour · 20/10/2023 10:49

That's pretty much my dream breakfast. I'm 38.

I'd not be happy with that. He's either entirely useless, an idiot or a lazy git.

This. This age is your chance to lay the habits that become automatic. Laziness now comes back to bite you. I know this now my kids are teenagers. I did some things right, phew. Some things wrong, and absolutely if I could go back, I'd put the effort in this time. That goes to you too, op, not just your lazy husband. Be more angry.

diddl · 20/10/2023 11:02

What even is it?

I recognise the biscuits but that's it!

As a rule I don't think specific food must be eaten for specific meals though.

Fish fingers for breakfast is one of my favourites!
