Neighbours chopped down their own trees but

they are now unhappy with the fact they can see the stuff stored down the side of my garage.

So they’ve moved all the stuff to the back of my garage. Without asking me.

I can now see their hideous 1970’s house whereas before I could see fir trees in which the Goldcrests gathered.

I’m toying with what I can put down the side of my garage. What about one of those blow up bendy balloon men they have outside some businesses? I wouldn’t be able to see it.

Just RTFT
Gutted (and concerned) that I wasn't the first to suggest blow up dolls.
What's the world coming to?

Wordsworse · 17/10/2023 20:41

A house on the canal has mannequins in hats in an upstairs window. Creepy.

Look at the deeds. Then go round or call and have a chat. I know this is lighthearted and I’m a spoilsport here but I think seeing all the real conflict is making me wonder whether this really low level desire to annoy or hurt someone without talking first is where things begin to go wrong (on a very small local level(.

Vitriolinsanity · 17/10/2023 20:49

About time you re filled those bins with a LOT more shit OP.

Wordsworse · 17/10/2023 20:53

I know what you mean @Indiaorigin I’m slightly aggrieved as my DH, who is the usual one to be outside fettling is currently bed bound and probably dying in the upstairs of our house.

I’d hate to think they were taking advantage of the situation.

What’s fettling?

Wordsworse · 17/10/2023 20:56

Where does the word fettling come from?
The noun fettle is found most often in the stock phrase in fine fettle “in a good state or condition.” Fettle is originally a British dialect word (Lancashire in northwest England), a verb meaning “to shape, prepare, fix, arrange.”Further origin is obscure: fettle may come from Middle English fetlen

What does fettle mean in Yorkshire?

  1. To put in order, clean up, make tidy.

Vitriolinsanity · 17/10/2023 20:58

Fettling is the natural extension of pottering.

Indiaorigin · 17/10/2023 21:06

Thanks @Wordsworse Best wishes to you and DH - light hearted plotting revenge might be good distraction (and chicken wire if they are taking the p*

@Vitriolinsanity

Closely followed by furtling.

Oh dear lord ignore that. Furtle is a word I’ve used for many years but I’ve just googled and urban dictionary tells me I may need to rein that in.

I had to Google it as I suspect my meaning of furtle was the same as yours and not what UD say 😀

Who knew 🤷‍♀️

The wiktionary British definition covers what you were saying a gentle rummage or probing Furtle

but yes that Urban one is a bit different.

Im curious what did you have stored that they didn’t what to see ?

MassiveOvaryaction · 17/10/2023 22:05

@Wordsworse have they told you they're not happy and don't want to look at your stuff? Is it not possible that they just moved it while the trees were being cut so it wasn't in the way?

Wordsworse · 17/10/2023 22:10

They moved it after the trees were cut down. I happened to be going to my car and popped my head round to look what they were up to and we had one of those wafty conversations. I question my initial reactions so much these days that I didn’t just shout ‘WTAF do you think you are doing with my random bins’. I spoke to my family who all responded ‘Cheeky fuckers’ so I am girding my loins and putting it all back. I may have to employ some baling twine as a temporary boundary.

There’s some really good ideas here. Wind chimes AND lights .

Wind chimes, {all maddening varieties, from the clonk clonk to the mad tinkle tinkle TINkle ones.
PLUS chaser lights, PLUS blow up man.
Job done.

Canisaysomething · 17/10/2023 22:33

Pop a large sex doll down there - as if it’s been used to death and is just on the way to the tip.

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 17/10/2023 22:47

That would piss me off, if anybody moved our stuff, and I would put it back immedietly. They should have asked you for permission. I'd probably be dramatic and put a fence (once you check the deeds) up without even mentioning it.

billy1966 · 17/10/2023 22:55

OP, it looks to me as if those trees may indeed have been yours.

That they never mentioned their plans is very off.

I would be checking those deeds asap as you may find that they are indeed your property.

They have been sneaky, could they be selling?
