Neighbours chopped down their own trees but

they are now unhappy with the fact they can see the stuff stored down the side of my garage.

So they’ve moved all the stuff to the back of my garage. Without asking me.

I can now see their hideous 1970’s house whereas before I could see fir trees in which the Goldcrests gathered.

I’m toying with what I can put down the side of my garage. What about one of those blow up bendy balloon men they have outside some businesses? I wouldn’t be able to see it.

Are they clearing so that they can put a fence in? If so, it's no surprise that they wanted your tree chopping down too. If they had plans to put a fence up close to your garage your tree is going to stop them.

They can't argue with your tree. I love that it's standing there proud - guarding your territory. Give it a feed and tie a nice ribbon round it - what a hero😁

Dery · 17/10/2023 19:38

Another here who is wondering if they were in fact your trees. And whether your things were moved to protect them when the trees were being removed. If they’re generally likeable neighbours, I wouldn’t go looking for a fight but I think it’s worth putting something temporary up to mark the boundary if only to preserve the status quo.

YireosDodeAver · 17/10/2023 19:38

The boundary is probably a metre away from the brick wall of the outbuilding, as it's unusual to have less than a metre.

MaggieFS · 17/10/2023 19:40

I'd be very suspicious about why they have done this 🧐

TheNoonBell · 17/10/2023 19:55

Spray the wall with "Bet you wish you didn't cut down the trees now"

Xmasgifts · 17/10/2023 19:59

@TheNoonBell haha brilliant

Wordsworse · 17/10/2023 20:00

I’m so tempted

The conifer you have circled is indeed mine, as are the laurels this side of it. The laurels had a row of conifers behind them but these have gone. They also wanted to take down the remaining conifer as ‘it’s brown on their side’ but I refused.

I don't know if you're aware (or indeed care, you might not!) but the brown area on your conifer won't regenerate and turn green again, it will stay dead brown like that forever.

Of course that's on the side you can't see, so you may well not be bothered. I'd be another wanting to put a fence up on the boundary, as hedges tend to spread sideways as well as up, and you'll need access all round your garage for maintenance.

DonnaBanana · 17/10/2023 20:02

I have the ace card to keep up your sleeve if things get really heated: a flagpole.

You are allowed to erect a flagpole of any height and fly any national or subnational flag in your garden without permission. They're a fantastic way to antagonise people, especially if they are trying to sell. There are lots of fun flags you can buy cheaply on eBay and fly for your neighbours, I'll let you be creative thinking about which ones.

Meowandthen · 17/10/2023 20:03

(Not RTFT). Put your stuff back and add something to it everyday.

If it's only brown on one side would that indicate sabotage like a nail?

What about the fence I circled on your pic. Does that denote the boundary? If it does, I would also ascertain the exact location of the boundary where your hedge / conifer lies and plumb a line from that to the fence and properly claim your land.

Thehonestybox · 17/10/2023 20:05

I would go to a hen party shop and get several blow up novelty items and install them everywhere

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/10/2023 20:05

Cheeky of them to try to take your bush down.

Wordsworse · 17/10/2023 20:06

No the fence is definitely well on their land. I mentioned it in an early post.

The house on the other side of them, built at the same time, has a flagpole of which I’ve always been quite jealous.

The offending articles.

I KIND OF get their point, because it looks like a part of their garden.. but that would be THEIR fault for chopping their trees down, and if they want to hide what's on YOUR land, they'll have to put up a fence or something. Just move the stuff back!

Wordsworse · 17/10/2023 20:23

How does it look like a part of their garden? Their house was built in what was the orchard belonging to my house. Before I owned it.

No, it’s more likely that they’ve cut it back on their side and have taken too much off. They’ve cut it back to old wood and it won’t regrow. Or it’s been up pressed against a fence and has gone brown. My first guess would be brutal pruning though.

Threeboysadogandacat · 17/10/2023 20:25

Something like this

Neighbours chopped down their own trees but
Wordsworse · 17/10/2023 20:26

Might be a bit big.

Suggestion - have a look at some of the cheap shower curtains they sell on Amazon.

I'm on a gardening page on FB. Some people use reasonably tasteful designs to cover walls. Some, however, have discovered designs which rival the infamous 'muriel' [sic] from Coronation Street. If I've done this correctly, there should be a link to several different designs at the bottom of the page.

Following as I love a good old deed dispute.

SunsetCurtain · 17/10/2023 20:34

Is there a market for second hand blow up dolls? Because the side of your garage seems like the perfect storage space to me

Someoneonlyyouknow · 17/10/2023 20:38

House near us has a collection of LARGE gnomes. Inside the house. Looking out the windows. Think they would be quite effective here
