What is the weirdest thing that bugs people on MN?

I remember a poster saying that it really stressed her out to see a woman outside the house with wet hair as no one should be too busy to blow dry their hair. This was weird to me because I have shoulder length hair and never blow dry it.

What about you?

MN has so many weird things 😄 - someone wrote that it was 'vulgar' to undertake on the motorway yesterday.

Ha. I enjoyed that. Genuinely think that poster and I have very different ideas of vulgarity!!

PortiaWithNoBreaks · 14/10/2023 21:39

All the posters who insist that towels must be washed after a single use and that every one else is just a skank if they don’t.

Ditto hoovering and mopping floors multiple times a day.

Fionaville · 14/10/2023 21:39

That MN posters seem to have parents that are rich or 'well off' If they aren't rich then they must be very poor.
There doesn't seem to be a middle ground, as in normal people who just potter along. But then MN seems to have a disproportionate amount of people who think a 65K salary is a pittance. Maybe MN is an example of the North/South divide in action.

Their kids not being invited to parties

I think this is it- I was just about to say that in London this salary won't let you own a home

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 14/10/2023 21:42

Once saw a thread saying people who don't work for whatever reason including SAHM, the disabled, the elderly shouldn't be allowed in supermarkets on weekends

How they thought this could be organised and implemented I don't know

Carrotcake93 · 14/10/2023 21:43

Have DC without being married

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 14/10/2023 21:44

Toilet brushes

drinkuptheezider · 14/10/2023 21:46

MN where, LTB is the first port of call regardless of if the OP has money, somewhere to go, like the council have a glut of homes ready for a woman/ man/ kids with no money who just rock up.
Also Going NC with family members over every slight. Yes, reduce contact if someone is a PITA but NC is a bit extreme in most cases.
Conversely, every childcare/ family issue, requires every family member involvement.

Fruitandclottedcream · 14/10/2023 21:47

The obsession with private school. People are either obsessively for it to the point they hate every single state school for stupid reasons such as seeing a "scruffy child" in the playground of one school (was actually a thread).
Or they're obsessively against it and are convinced everyone who uses private school are rich Tories who look down on everyone else (not a specific thread but we've all seen them).

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 14/10/2023 21:51

I grew up with a family I knew like this :

Or they're obsessively against it and are convinced everyone who uses private school are rich Tories

It was tedious

What an odd thing to get stressed about! I go to a hair salon over the road and deliberately don't get a blow dry because my hair is naturally curly and just looks better left to dry naturally. So I just get a wash and cut and then cross the road with wet hair back to my house.

Wonder if that person was Italian? I'm sure I read somewhere that Italian women would never leave the house with wet hair....

Millybob · 14/10/2023 21:58

The grammar! 'Me and him are going to ... Her and me did this ... SIL gave DH and I ...'
And all those mother-in-laws (plural).

EtiennePalmiere · 14/10/2023 22:00

The toilet brush thing, and the recent chicken- touching thread

WibblyWobblyTimeyWimeyStuff · 14/10/2023 22:02

One thing I particularly hate - is when people post rude and snide comments about people who aren't big eaters. 'Teeny tiny' type comments really get on my nerves. If you don't consume a big mac meal and 4 donuts and a massive milkshake to yourself, followed by a half pound block of Cadburys Dairy Milk, you're a 'teeny tiny,' and guilty of competitive undereating. 🙄

I saw a thread the other week mocking people who buy a bag of chips and one large battered fish, and share it with their partner/husband. One poster said 'why are you doing this? No-one does this unless they're a pensioner.' Hmm Then someone else said 'must be poor if you're sharing a meal meant for one.' Hmm

It's not the done thing to mock and deride people for eating a lot, or being overweight, but it seems to be fashionable on Mumsnet to mock people who aren't big eaters. Boils my piss to be honest. Seems some people have an issue with people who don't eat a lot. There are many reasons for it, ranging from people having an eating disorder, to people not wanting to gain weight, to the fucking obvious fact that some people just aren't big eaters.

People who ARE big eaters love to project their issues onto the ones who don't eat a lot/eat small portions by mocking them, and posting snarky, sarcastic jibes about their 'suppose' competitive undereating. When people project snide comments onto people who don't eat a lot, it speaks volumes about them to be honest. Wink

Teen pregnancy threads ( to be fair pretty sure most of them are trolls) where posters encourage the teen to keep the baby and the mum to support her- note always the mum- no one ever suggests “maybe her father can give up work and look after his grandchild while she finishes school/ goes to college”. The teen- mom advocates always say “ if you don’t support her it could affect your relationship forever” Well yeah, but when the alternative is potentially end up with PR for my gc for 18 years I think I’ll take that risk thanks. V woolly thinking but I think these people probably also subscribe to “ everything happens for a reason hun”.

Millybob · 14/10/2023 22:05

In the Middle East, a woman with wet hair advertises that she has recently had sex. I didn't know this, thought my hair would bake dry in the sun - and I don't know why the creepy bloke who was following me assumed that if i'd just had sex, I'd want it again with him.
It does look a bit scruffy, though.

Moveoverdarlin · 14/10/2023 22:06

Going out with wet hair doesn’t stress me out but yeah I agree, it looks bone idle. If your hair looks better when left to dry naturally, get up and wash it earlier.

Lolaandbehold · 14/10/2023 22:07

Inheritance. No one has the right to be annoyed when their parent dies and leaves their millions to a sibling because it’s their money to what they like with. 🤷‍♀️

I’m always baffled at how genuinely furious people get on Mumsnet about other people’s utterly harmless choices, which affect them in no way whatsoever, eg the people who are absolutely apoplectic about things like other people choosing to wear pyjamas to relax in their own homes. Also, there are threads where people are really furious - properly vicious - about other people liking autumn.

Also Mumsnet seems to be full of people who claim they are hypersensitive to even the slightest smell and therefore have to retire to bed with a migraine if someone 10 metres away has the audacity to wear perfume, and are absolutely raging on any thread where perfume is discussed.

Plus, the people who insist that if you don’t shower at least daily you are disgusting and stink and are inconsiderate to everyone around them, even though they actually have no idea how often anyone standing next to them showers and therefore cannot possibly say with any confidence what level of shower frequency does/doesn’t make someone smell.

You do sound quite stressed out, to be honest

SacAMain · 14/10/2023 22:14

that SAHM are desperate and lost idiots

that anyone who likes birthdays is a pathetic attention-seeker, and don't get me started on hen does

that buying more than a pair of socks to your child for Christmas must spoil them for life

that prioritising your child or your friends children over complete strangers is making people shocked, horrified, and disgusted

SacAMain · 14/10/2023 22:15

A great one was about a WOMAN mowing the lawn "but what will the neighbours say?"

Lookatmytoes · 14/10/2023 22:15

Weeing in the shower. Can’t imagine why anyone would be bovered.
