What is the weirdest thing that bugs people on MN?

I remember a poster saying that it really stressed her out to see a woman outside the house with wet hair as no one should be too busy to blow dry their hair. This was weird to me because I have shoulder length hair and never blow dry it.

What about you?

The take over of pensioners on every thread. It should be called pensioners net nowadays. Can’t be a family struggling or a worker paying eye watering levels of tax. It all comes down to the pension and whatabouterry on every thread. Can’t say anything though as the claxon starts going off for ageism 🤫

Edited

Er.... there is a lot of undisguised ageism and hatred for "boomers" and old people though. Some perhaps justified, most not.

Fightyouforthatpie · 17/10/2023 10:39

Threads where people come up with brilliant "solutions" to complex issues like the recent "why doesn't the uk grow all our own food" as if it was that simple and we only needed to have it pointed out by the genius OP.

Fightyouforthatpie · 17/10/2023 10:42

Oh, and people who have the gaul to recline their seat on a plane.

@{Luxurybeliefspreader

the posts I saw about it seemed to be defending it

That is true, actually - apologies. There were some who seemed to be crossly saying "Well, why should I be expected to properly understand what the conversation is about before wading in and saying my piece?"!

I think of resolute non-RTFTers as like a GP who instantly scrawls a prescription for weight-loss pills the second they see a larger than average patient come through the door, without even waiting to hear about the chest infection or unexplained hair-loss issue that the visit is actually for.

If you're the size of Obelix, you probably can't manage without the extra room Grin

It's not hatred it's justified bitterness to a group of people who are noticeably unkind and uncaring towards Millennials and younger people.

Isn't it the recognised etiquette not to do so when meals are being served though?

spitefulandbadgrammar · 17/10/2023 11:36

I like the faux-stupid posters who’ve seemingly never travelled a mile from home or consumed any form of media, acting baffled at regionalisms and dialect. Especially when it’s perfectly clear from context, and even more obvious that what basically is riling them is the OP’s audacity to speak differently from them. A particular one I remember was a query on baby vaccinations, referred to as “needles” – if you engaged your brain for a nanosecond you could figure out what the OP’s question was, and that it was a regionalism the same as some say jabs, some say jags. But cue the bafflement and mockery and outrage that this woman dare write in her own vernacular. It’s so odd: it doesn’t affect me in the slightest if someone writes in their accent and dialect, not mine! Sometimes I learn new words; the UK is rich with local terms. But people get so het up, as if they themselves speak RP (almost no one does) and everyone else is refusing to in order to piss them off.

Probably not possible to do with Boar on the menu

teenysaladandsniffofarose · 17/10/2023 11:45

Anyone who describes their teenage son as "strapping"

Urgh🤢

There's also one prolific poster who's been on here years and they're always so rude and abrupt but everyone seems to love them and I just don't get it😂😂

Oh, and people who have the gaul to recline their seat on a plane.

This is hardly a 'weird' thing, though. Most people can see how cramped people are in economy seating, much more so than was common in the days when reclining airline seats were invented. It is obvious that reclining your seat is going to affect the person behind you in a negative way, so most people don't recline unless it is a night flight. Why is it 'weird' to be disgusted at someone who recognises that making this choice will make the person behind them more uncomfortable, yet chooses to do it anyway (unless late at night when everyone is reclined)?

Maybe reconsider your views here.

The worst of that is the faux confusion when someone says “brought” instead of “bought”. It’s always obvious what is meant.

The worst example I ever saw was on a post from a woman who had recently bought a house with her partner and had been punched in the face by him very very soon after they’d moved in.

it was very obvious what she meant by “I have no money, we just brought the house and he persuaded me not to protect my deposit money”.

Yet despite the nature of the thread there were several nasty pieces of work who claimed to be confused by brought. One in particular asking “where did you bring your house, I don’t get it”. The poster left the thread and never came back. I genuinely hope it was a troll thread as otherwise it was a vulnerable person likely made to feel stupid - which is exactly what the abusive partner had done.

I know there's probably loads of them but this one in particular annoys me way more than they should😂

SacAMain · 17/10/2023 12:40

the constant name change seems to have a put a stop to the ancient "MN Royalty" posters who used to think they owned the forum, so we're lucky with only one or 2 left😂

RampantIvy · 17/10/2023 12:48

I haven't flown long haul for years, so all recent flights I have taken have been in planes that don't have the option to recline the seat.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 17/10/2023 13:04

What colour to wear to a wedding (and funeral actually)

Anyone having any hobbies or interests that aren't DIY, flower arranging or knitting being "childish"

Drinking fizzy pop, squash and milkshake is childish

The whole "men can't do that but it's ok when a woman does it"

MILs

Hen Dos

WhatsApp groups

Work friends...

SacAMain · 17/10/2023 13:06

What colour to wear to a wedding (and funeral actually)

I am not sure that's specific to MN, people do care about the etiquette at weddings and funerals.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 17/10/2023 13:09

Not the way they do here. You can't wear red, green, black, white or anything the might LOOK white to a wedding except most people IRL will

And people won't always wear all black to a funeral but, again, on MN that's the ultimate taboo

MN is obsessed with a level of etiquette most people do NOT follow

Wedding etiquette is definitely a weird world on MN. I’ve never known anyone IRL be bothered by that.

Funerals are different though. I do think most people would play safe and respectfully with black unless there was an express invitation to wear other colours.

SacAMain · 17/10/2023 13:24

I disagree, the etiquette and the "no white/cream/champagne" is everywhere, the comments on someone wearing attention-seeking inappropriate outfits just as much.

I remember reading quite a lot about Kate Middleton "inappropriate" choice of colour for Harry and Meghan's wedding, the yellow was too pale apparently, was she making a hidden dig, and in foreign articles just as much as the Brit ones.

Search reddit for guests or best, mother-in-law, turning up in white at a wedding, you'll find loads.

Londoners 😂

It's amazing how many people on here utterly hate landlords. All landlords, even those who look after their properties and do their best to keep tenants happy.
