If you are anti-Zionist, what do you think Israel should do?

Poudretteite · 14/10/2023 14:39

Should Israel open its borders? Be given back to the Palestinian people? Where should the Jewish people go? What about the high risk of genocide?

Interested to hear as many people over the last few days have said they are anti-Zionist and that it's different to antisemitism.

It’s generally wise to not correct people’s spelling online given that you don’t know whether the poster “can’t spell” (and, if they can’t spell, why that is, because it’s not always due to a lack of intelligence or knowledge, believe it or not) or whether it’s a typo or autocorrect error. But you obviously know that, considering that you don’t normally do it.

Except that a lot of people make the same error. It’s not just about individual people, it’s about the number of self-proclaimed experts who don’t even seem to have a grasp on the basics. It’s one of the most prominent and important words in the discussion. I can’t take anyone’s arguments seriously when they can’t even spell the name of the thing they claim to be an expert on.

"Most of the Middle East was Jewish".

WHAT? That is utterly, blatantly untrue. I'm not even sure that was true of what is now Israel

daytriptovulcan · 14/10/2023 15:24

Can you be pro zionist and pro palestinian simultaneously? I think thats what peace activists are, and honestly they are the pragmatic ones, as an invasion of Gazza is going to be a massive f**k up.

Reallifelurker · 14/10/2023 15:25

There are too many crazies in the Isreali government who think its their devine destiny to expell all the Palestinians, and create a racist apatheid state. The middle ground have to face them down.

Yes, both sides are led by utter loons.

Of course they haven't because it's made up, antisemitic rubbish.

MistyMooPup · 14/10/2023 15:26

@HermioneWeasley why should the Palestinians leave the land they’ve lived on for thousands of years?

Reallifelurker · 14/10/2023 15:28

Theres no reason to take sides and want one side to “win” and the other to be “defeated”. People who are involved may think that way but as an outside observer there’s no reason to.

kannayya · 14/10/2023 15:28

Firstly world have to accept there is 'Palestine' nations existence.

Dulra · 14/10/2023 15:29

canwetalkaboutcake · 14/10/2023 15:06

But the Palestinians are also from and born on that same land. Are you saying that because there are lots of other Arab / Muslim countries , that they should just go to one of those?

Thanks @canwetalkaboutcake because I had no idea what point they were trying to make. With that thinking people in NI should just move to England because there's loads of protestants there

@HermioneWeasley why should the Palestinians leave the land they’ve lived on for thousands of years?

Because the land has lots of energy reserves and west is more interested about it and Israel is good partner than Palestine in that way.

So is it all religious places we should do away with or just Jewish ones?

I'm anti religion and I do not like the fact certain religious Jews flock there in hopes of bringing the Messiah and end times blah blah blah.

Very, very few (or any?) Jews "flock there in hopes of bringing the Messiah". Most move there to either join family or escape racial prejudice at home. Tens of thousands of Jews have left France to go to Israel in the last 15 years because of antisemitic attacks and threats.

Sorry you think it was "dumb" for Jews to have a homeland after 6 million were exterminated. You acknowledge Jews need a place where they feel safe - where would you suggest that could be?

Haven’t the Palestinians rejected every peace proposal even the one where they were offered approx 90% of their demands/requests? And haven’t they spent the last two years playing possum and pretending to be creeping towards resolutions only to viciously attack from nowhere and then gloat about it? Hard to see any solution they’ll agree with apart from the Israelis being wiped out entirely.

I never said do away with it. What I meant is that the illegal settlements in the west bank are inspired by religious fundamentalism just like the disgusting Hamas attack last weekend is.

RudsyFarmer · 14/10/2023 15:37

There are no rightful owners of any land. There are agreements across the world that have usually been secured by blood loss. The land we stand on is not our own. It is a moment of time where we are being allowed to reside peacefully. At any given time the land could be taken during a war and new borders be implemented through force.

You could engage in a moral argument over the sovereignty of all land currently occupied and probably prove it belonged to someone else historically.

Settlements are a problem. Bizarrely, you actually find evangelical Christians dominate many and other poorer Jewish people are tricked into moving there when they make Aliyah and then can’t get out, because the house value is too low to buy in Israel.

However, not all Palestinians want settlements to go away. I had the most infuriating reality check on this when I met with Palestinians who work in them, furiously explaining their pay and conditions are better than any job in Palestine and that they were treated well. I, many years ago, though they were brainwashed or being forced to say that- so I met them privately out of the settlement afterwards and they reconfirmed them threw rocks at my car when I reiterated that the settlement they work in would be evacuated when peace comes. It’s not all so simple.

I like to see this from a different perspective, I read my home language BBC news this morning. There is a tiny village close to my hometown, and a Jews community is in highlights now. The have been waiting for a chance our government give them recognition as Jews. And they keep looking for chances to migrate Israel, not because antisemitic.beccause they were around us for centuries and we have got no idea of this anti-Semitism.

They want to leave my home country as they find Jews in Israel are powerful and driving force for the west. They want to enjoy that status .

So the current Israel is misleading Jews all over the world and causing imbalance.

SnowflakeCity · 14/10/2023 15:44

I don't see why Jewish people have to go anywhere? Multicultural societies are a good thing. Everyone lives side by side like civilised people. No one steals houses or land, no one discriminates on the basis of religion. Resources are shared fairly between everyone. It can be just like lots of democratic societies. It'll be bumpy at first for sure, when you've caged people up for years they tend to be pissed off but the UN can have troops on the ground and make sure that everyone plays fairly.

Aishah231 · 14/10/2023 15:45

Israel should stop sponsoring and supporting illegal settlements. They should also accept a two state solution. I'm fine with them sending in troops to seek out Hamas fighters but I absolutely do not support genocide and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians - which is what we're witnessing now.
