In-laws gatecrashed our holiday

Unicornmum25 · 12/10/2023 18:41

This isn't a question really, I just wanted to moan and see if I'm being unreasonable. We have gone away on holiday abroad, my husband, my child and myself. Upon arriving the hotel said our room was no longer available but they had upgraded us from a 2 bedroom to a 3 bedroom. We were pretty pleased with this news as it was nice to have that bit extra space and we don't usually get any luck as a family. Anyway a couple of days pass and we are sitting by the pool and my husbands mum and dad have shown up and declare they are staying in the spare room of where we are staying. I honestly can't get my head around it, I just think it's rude to gatecrash someone else's holiday and they have seen our upgrade as a free place to stay for them. Oh and not only are they staying in our place for free now they are using all our bath products and sun lotions etc because they didn't take a case as they wanted their flight to be as cheap as possible. Anyway rant over for now.

So I guess we will never know…

Jzp · 12/10/2023 19:42

We’re clearly not being told the whole story here. It’s either a wind up or there’s a lot more than we’re being told.
OP please elaborate

Bertiesmum3 · 12/10/2023 19:41

Obviously they had planned to join you and contacted the hotel and requested that you are given a 3 bedroom suite to accommodate them, so not a free upgrade by the sounds of it!!

Oh, come on, who does that without an invitation or telling the people involved their intention before the event?

Only very sly in-laws.
Sounds like they’ve pre-planned it without anyone else knowing

Cheeky Feckers. Get them to childmind every night while you and hubby 🥳, lol

katseyes7 · 12/10/2023 19:51

Am l missing something here?
The hotel/villa would surely have been booked in the names of the OP, her husband and the children.
I don't know any hotel (certainly not one l've ever stayed in) who would hand over keys for a room to any randoms who happened to rock up unless they were already on the booking.

katseyes7 · 12/10/2023 19:52

Surely if the in laws weren't on the booking originally, they couldn't have asked for an upgrade?
My money's on the husband....

MyPurpleHeart · 12/10/2023 19:52

How do they know where you are?

When I tell people I'm going on holiday I tell them which country I'm going to not the specific hotel

PinkMoscatoLover · 12/10/2023 19:54

It’s one thing to say ‘oh we’re going on holiday to Spain next month.’ But how did they know the exact location and name of the Hotel? Your husband obviously told them whether he intended for them to turn up or not

Dishwashersaurous · 12/10/2023 19:57

I'm thinking about this more.

Just how, how did this happen?

It must have been planned.

Otherwise the husband somehow mentioned that they had been upgraded to a bigger apartment.

And then the inlaws immediately booked flights and flew out.

And then turned up at the hotel and were somehow given keys to the room

Seaweed42 · 12/10/2023 19:59

How did they get the key of the room?
Your DH has a case to answer surely?

MadeForThis · 12/10/2023 20:00

and how did they know the exact hotel???

madeinmanc · 12/10/2023 20:01

Cherchez le DH!

OhwhyOY · 12/10/2023 20:01

Charge them or send them home. If your DH didn't invite them and they refuse to go or pay I'd be telling the hotel they were unwanted room crashers and have them turfed out.

Butterkist8 · 12/10/2023 20:03

What a very strange coincidence!

You arrive and get an upgrade to accommodation that has an extra room then low and behold, your in-laws turn up!!!?

Methinks your husband holds the answer to this.

SkinnyFat · 12/10/2023 20:05

This is what I come here for…

Inauthentic · 12/10/2023 20:08

It appears that some crucial bits are missing from this story
I can't feel an outrage on behalf of someone who manipulates the truth

I'm calling bullshit on this one..

I said exactly the same thing on a previous page and was deleted. Wonder if you will have the same treatment, since OP hasn't returned?

Moonwatcher1234 · 12/10/2023 20:15

Wow - unbelievable…

Hibiscrubbed · 12/10/2023 20:17

Wow. I’d give my husband ‘the look’ and make myself scarce for the remainder of the holiday. What total idiot told them?!
