To not understand how Hannah Ingram-Moore can lie so unashamedly?

So she's admitted keeping over £800k of the money raised for herself. Claims it was her fathers wish, even though it wasn't documented anywhere, that the proceeds from his book stay in the family. The foreword of the book talks of his delight to be able to raise even more money through sales of his book. She claims nobody has been mislead.

And then cried.

How is there not being a bigger deal made of it?

I hope HMRC extract every last penny owing in taxes from her. Although I expect she's had it funnelled into an off shore account.

Haha, yes, that's probably what that trip to the Carribbean was for right during COVID. She no doubt swanned off to Turks & Caicos or Panama with the cash in a suitcase.

She had to take her old Dad with her to make it look like he wanted a "last holiday" when really, a trip to Eastbourne would've been more suited to him - and wouldn't have lead to him getting COVID himself and passing away!

Because at the time, everyone was frightened, and we needed a hero. It had to be the right kind of hero, though. All those medics dying didn't cut it, nah, especially not the non-Caucasian ones. Remember that first set of photos of clinicians who had died? It was impossible not to see how many of them were from non-Caucasian backgrounds. That wasn't the right optic though, not for our mainstream, mostly male-dominated media.

Cue: a smart, pleasant, personable white chap of the right social background with a military background (not TOO eminent, just the right rank not to scare people) and a VERY pushy daughter. Hannah was/is expert in PR so I can't help feeling a little bit glad that, finally, her ambition appears to be biting her where it hurts, in the bank balance/reputation.

Plus at the time you couldn't possibly say a single word against this lovely man helping to raise national morale. There he was, devotedly doing little laps of the back garden on his walking frame in his smart jacket and military medals while his lovely daughter cheered him on to a national symphony of banging pan lids. He even got name-checked on the Tesco Christmas ad that year.

I thought it notable that the daughter who works in homeopathy (yes, you can call it cod medicine but she should have had SOME training in anatomy and physiology at least) never seemed to want much to do with it all. Maybe she has the measure of her sister and always has had. Or maybe she was just even cleverer than her sister and that story is yet to break.

Alongside the dreadful deaths and long-term conditions (not to mention the impact on mental health and children, especially poor children) that COVID has wrought, the whole way it was managed in England (arguably bar the vaccine roll out) has been an incredible stage-managed course in manipulation of the public.

But at the time, you couldn't say any of this unless you wanted your head bitten off. It's all made me think about the presentation of the Blighty Spirit of World War Two, which my parents/aunts/uncles lived through, in a totally different light.

Oh come on, such exaggeration. He did nothing wrong. He was undoubtedly exploited by his daughter but people being captured by what he did doesn't mean they didn't care about others. Don't make this about race and age.

I did not donate to the appeal. It always seemed overhyped and the country was in such a strange febrile state which is why I think it grew to such proportions. As for her, how she can show her face in public is beyond me let alone show no shame and contrition

Agreed. I have no idea whether Tom was a nice chap or not. But the amount of sentimental claptrap spouted at the time was astonishing, and some of the British public seemed to lose all common sense. He walked around his garden - big deal. The whole thing was baffling, but it was obvious that it got a lot of traction because his daughter was/is a PR professional. I can't comment on her subsequent culpability, but at best she was naive and, at worst, who knows?

Coffeelotsofcoffee · 12/10/2023 20:32

I found the whole thing really odd tbh.
Poor old guy being exploited by his daughter by looks of it

Jumperhermit · 12/10/2023 16:34

True, I’d not thought about it from this way.

I had no idea either way - lovely or not

The foreword of the book talks of his delight to be able to raise even more money through sales of his book

when I saw the news report flash up this afternoon I wondered whether there was anything in the advertising or book itself that either substantiated her claim or more likely disproved it.
If the forward states the book will raise money for charity, rather than his grabby entitled daughter, make a formal complaint to the charity commission.

to be fair, I think she has a background in media/comms, which will be partly how the whole thing got so much publicity - no one realised that she was going to syphon off such a big whack for her 'work'.

littleripper · 12/10/2023 20:37

They were all grifters. Utter grifters Tom, her, the lot of them. The UKs twin obsessions of the NHS and WW2 during a national pandemic? It was genius and in my view absolutely obvious at the time. Tom had even been on the game show circuit in the 80s - hardly the shy retiring old man.

MedievalWell · 12/10/2023 20:37

I am glad I never fell for any of this nonsense at the time. People are so damn disappointing.

Housewife2010 · 12/10/2023 20:48

Anyone else watching their interview now with Piers Morgan?

TheUsualChaos · 12/10/2023 20:51

It always felt off. She came across as more of a publicity manager than a genuine proud daughter. The Barbados holiday was when it clicked for me that the family were taking the piss and using their elderly relative for their own gains. Whether Captain Tom was in on any of it I will reserve judgement on but the rest of them are a bunch of greedy crooks.

Yes. I can't stand PMorgan but my goodness.... the spa pool thing is shocking what they are saying.

DriftingDora · 12/10/2023 19:45

Absolutely right. Have some respect, AndIKnewYouMeantIt, and grow up. Many men who served in the military never got the chance to become 'little old men in medals' as you so insensitively and dismissively put it. Try reading some history.
And what have Help for Heroes bumper stickers got to do with anything? If people support that particular cause and want to put a sticker on their car bumper, so what?

Old men with medals (let's not patronise the elderly by calling them 'little') run the same gamut of personalities as anyone else, frankly. Some are saints, some are actively unpleasant. Some risked their lives for those medals, some got them simply for serving (sometimes far from battle). Unless you know what each medal means, you can't assume that the 'little old man with medals' in your village is either nice or courageous. He might well be, or he might not.

This is why hero worship of anyone who's ever worn a uniform is sentimental tosh unless you know that the individual deserves it.

Sparklesocks · 12/10/2023 20:55

Shameless grifters don’t really feel embarrassment or guilt. They feel they’re entitled to their spoils.

Randomuser9876 · 12/10/2023 20:55

I'm watching the interview.

She's overstating her case massively, saying that the Queen asked to meet them!! I doubt that very much.

They really shouldn't have taken him on that holiday but she takes no responsibility, I'd feel TERRIBLE

It's also very manipulative having the kids on, she should be protecting them.

JudgeJ · 12/10/2023 20:58

fortheloveofflowers · 12/10/2023 18:20

It’s a massive amount of money and I work in healthcare, do not know anyone that has benefitted from it all.

From what I've read there seems to be no controversy about the £35m . approx. that was raised for the NHS as that's handle separately, this is about money made from his books and other so-called charitable endeavours using his name.

Housewife2010 · 12/10/2023 20:58

I'd love to know what her sister makes of all this. Did she benefit at all from the sale of the books?

Randomuser9876 · 12/10/2023 20:59

Ohh good point

Lesina · 12/10/2023 21:02

Because she is an entitled, avaricious cunt who exploited her elderly father for personal gain.

Roussette · 12/10/2023 21:04

My god. This is a carcrash for them. Calendars, gin, biscuits... they trademarked his name and made £800K for THEIR COMPANY.

Roussette · 12/10/2023 21:06

£800,000 in one year. Shock

From branded merchandise. And people buying all this stuff would think the profits would go to the charitable foundation.
But no. They kept it.

Has she managed to cry yet, apparently she managed to squeeze some out.?

Twinklewonderkins · 12/10/2023 21:13

@Sceptic1234 my dad was in the army and always used to say that Mark Phillips using captain was terribly bad form ha.
I always thought of dad when Tom Moore was on the tele.

She walked out!

They're back now.

Why on earth did they agree to do this interview, it's a carcrash. They are unrepentant about everything.

StrandedStarfish · 12/10/2023 21:16

She couldn’t lie straight in bed

SophiaElizabethGrace · 12/10/2023 21:23

Do they have any idea how much (more) damage this interview is doing? They are truly awful.

What on earth is the "well in hindsight we shouldn't have ..." bollocks? Why did they not seek legal advice?

There is the truth and then there is their truth.
