To not understand how Hannah Ingram-Moore can lie so unashamedly?

So she's admitted keeping over £800k of the money raised for herself. Claims it was her fathers wish, even though it wasn't documented anywhere, that the proceeds from his book stay in the family. The foreword of the book talks of his delight to be able to raise even more money through sales of his book. She claims nobody has been mislead.

And then cried.

How is there not being a bigger deal made of it?

Because now most people don't believe in a God, in times of stress some want to believe in something or someone. And during a frightening pandemic, people believed in what Captain Tom was doing to help the NHS. They rooted for his efforts and this made them feel a bit better about the world outside their window, even if for a little while.

His family capitalised on this. And took the money.

It was the Military angle, right? We're all supposed to go all gooey over little old men in medals. We're the nation of Help for Heroes bumper stickers.

Those "little old men in medals" deserve respect and admiration.

readbooksdrinktea · 12/10/2023 17:11

It was always dodgy as fuck. None of this is a surprise. Grifters grift because it often pays off.

I can’t believe they took their children on TV with them when they would have had zero to do with any of this decision making.

Those poor kids. I can imagine they'll be getting a hard time at school about this.
I remember lots of people on MN saying the daughter was a money grabber and loving the attention. A lot of people questioned the wisdom of accepting the free holiday to Barbados at his age and suggested she wanted the freebie. I now think they were right.

Tinkerbyebye · 12/10/2023 17:13

I would be interested to know what her sibling thinks of it all

There's distasteful and then there's this.

curtaintwitcher78 · 12/10/2023 17:16

Was cuddly old Tom duped or did he and his family cook it all up together to benefit the family business and finances? Guess we'll never know.

Barrythetimesprout · 12/10/2023 17:18

You could stick lipstick on Hannah Ingram-Moore and stick her in a frock, but she'd still be a utterly corrupt pig with her nose on the trough.

Vile, self serving, morally bankrupt family.

Sure that duping folk was really right up there for being within 'cuddly old Tom's'capabilities. 🙄wonder why people have to just get darn right nasty, for the sake of it.

topnoddy · 12/10/2023 17:22

Anyone who contributed to this total farce has been right royally mugged off by the horrible woman who from the start of it was only in it for herself and whatever money she could get out of it !

IllBeHonesthere · 12/10/2023 17:23

She’s no better than the nurse who stole a debit card and used it at a vending machine off an elderly patient who died of covid . Except she went to court and I expect HIM will get away with it . Still the same stealing and gaining something from someone elderly off the back of covid . Disgusting behaviour

Contraryjane · 12/10/2023 17:26

It was her behaviour at Wimbledon that disgusted me.

sparklefresh · 12/10/2023 17:27

She's revolting. She exploited her elderly father for her own gain. She's a common thief and that spa building is an abomination,

I was always dubious about the whole Captain Tom thing without knowing why, there was always something 'off' about it.
I have no idea whether he was a genuine, but exploited old man, or a grifter, like his daughter.
I lean towards the former, but believe he was manipulated by his family, poor bugger.

I really hope that family suffers humiliation and ostracisation. They deserve nothing less.

dick27 · 12/10/2023 17:31

Last time she came up, about the spa thing I looked at her Instagram and I'm sure in one post it said we moved our dad in with us, and in another we moved into our dads. There is a difference.

Fireisland · 12/10/2023 17:33

Maybe it WAS his wish for her to keep the money. Maybe he wasn't a very nice man

BoobyDazzler · 12/10/2023 17:33

Her kind of Yahs don’t do anything unless there’s something in it for them. She always had her eyes on the prize.

Zebedee55 · 12/10/2023 17:36

I never gave to this. The NHS should be funded properly through the government - not charity.

I think Covid was an odd time - people got involved with things they wouldn't normally have got sucked into.

But, the old boy raised some money whatever, so I suppose a good cause got something out of it somewhere.

But, I think that he, and the public, were manipulated from the start.😗

Crikeyalmighty · 12/10/2023 17:37

@Fireisland unfortunately there is that possibility too

Talking of shameful behaviour. Maybe this shameful speculation about a man who's no longer here to defend himself, is uncalled for. The daughter is fair game, Captain Tom is not. You crack on though and fill your boots.

graceinspace999 · 12/10/2023 17:44

This seems to be still under investigation by the charities commission.

The fundraising and the book can be seen separately - with the book being an earner for Tom and family if he chooses. Unless this was fraud in some way. Many charitable individuals keep their books separate from their fundraising work.

His daughter doesn’t seem to be hiding this so maybe that was her father’s intent.

The walking fundraising money should go to charity but like all charities it would have employees and overheads.

A lot of charities have shocking overheads with ginormous salaries being paid to chief executives etc.

Its good it’s being investigated. I’d prefer to see the outcome before the stone throwing.

Libertass · 12/10/2023 17:44

I may not be right about everything, but I decided from the outset that the entire ‘Captain Tom’ circus looked dodgy AF, and it was never going to get a single penny of my money.

MNHQ will be relieved to hear that I am not going to make any defamatory allegations about Ms Ingram-Moore’s conduct or hew stewardship of the charity or the sources of her considerable evident wealth on their site. After all, she is evidently rich enough to sue me…

Lifeomars · 12/10/2023 17:44

I did not donate to the appeal. It always seemed overhyped and the country was in such a strange febrile state which is why I think it grew to such proportions. As for her, how she can show her face in public is beyond me let alone show no shame and contrition

FloofCloud · 12/10/2023 17:46

There always seems to be something dodgy about her. It may well be that sone money was donated and sone came to the estate, I guess the charities commission investigation will discover what's happened
