To not understand how Hannah Ingram-Moore can lie so unashamedly?

So she's admitted keeping over £800k of the money raised for herself. Claims it was her fathers wish, even though it wasn't documented anywhere, that the proceeds from his book stay in the family. The foreword of the book talks of his delight to be able to raise even more money through sales of his book. She claims nobody has been mislead.

And then cried.

How is there not being a bigger deal made of it?

I'm prepared to give Tom the benefit of the doubt based on his age and the way I've seen people of a similar age behave. Even those with their faculties intact become very unsure of themselves and more reliant on family.
He certainly did like the spot light and a bit of attention, that's completely different to being a total grifter. He went on a game show, which plenty of people do, he didn't cheat his way through I'm a Millionaire.
On the other hand I do think all the idolisation of him got out of hand, in a big way. And his daughter is a total, unrepentant charlatan.

TurquoiseMermaid · 14/10/2023 19:30

The posters trying to censor any criticism of this elder-abuser grifter by screaming abuse and calling everyone "grim" and "vile": stop clutching your pearls and have a good think about what your agenda is attempting in bully and silence discussion of criminal and unethical behaviour.

You're telling on yourselves.

OMG - you couldn't make it up! The Ingram-Moore family are now saying that they built the unauthorised home spa as it "could" be used by the elderly for rehab sessions.

... or that is the story their barrister is trying to convince the Council of at the planning appeal hearing

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/oct/17/captain-tom-moore-family-defend-home-spa

Unauthorised home pool was spa complex for elderly, say Captain Tom’s family

Relatives appeal against Central Bedfordshire council’s order that complex be demolished

It was the Military angle, right? We're all supposed to go all gooey over little old men in medals. We're the nation of Help for Heroes bumper stickers.

You hit the nail right on the head! This, in spades.

BeaLola · 17/10/2023 20:52

Perhaps instead of knocking it down they will rule it as a community spa with free access 247 to all locals

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 17/10/2023 21:56

Yes, I can just see them all queuing up to use the spa with their towels. I’m sure they’ll all feel welcome now due to this latest news. 😂

LadyWhineglass · 17/10/2023 21:58

One to one, once or twice a week. That’s old Mrs P allowed in the spa on a Tuesday and Wednesday morning and the rest of the time the family get to use it.

blanketsmell · 17/10/2023 22:07

Do you remember that christmas tesco ad. Where the lad said he didn't give to captain Tom. It was like that.

Probably a relative who is "elderly"

So they even have the necessary permissions for public access or liability insurance? 🙄

Given that the whole Captain Tom "charity" is to all intents and purposes defunct - why not demolish the whole ugly building?

Roussette · 18/10/2023 07:50

The Ingram Moore family are going through appeal at the moment. The decision won't be for a few weeks.
Given they applied for the original building (before adding the Spa) in the name of the name of the Captain Tom Foundation, and the charity is being wound down because of the commission investigation, are they entitled to keep this massive building? Laughable they are saying they are offering one-to-one sessions with one person once a week 😂

Here is a picture, with their original house on the left. It's a monstrosity. I imagine the neighbours on the left weren't too happy

I think it’s all very sad and a bit of a witch hunt to be honest. Tom raised plenty of money during his lifetime which did good and there is only one group of people who actually lost a father and a family member in this situation and it wasn’t the public..

Roussette · 18/10/2023 08:00

Oh ... and a coffee morning once a month, let's not forget that! And a fete once a year. This is desperation

There are photos out there of how it has impacted the neighbours and I can quite understand how cross they are, given that it's 49% bigger than what the planning permission agreed.

Roussette · 18/10/2023 08:01

I don't think it's a witch hunt. It's a big shame the family were greedy and they have sullied the memory of Captain Tom.

Sums up my feelings exactly and I never really fell for the sweet old man image.

Housewife2010 · 18/10/2023 09:16

I want to know if his other daughter benefitted from the books. I'd also like to know if the sisters get on.
I know it was during Covid but when Captain Tom was knighted I thought it was a shamr that the sister and her family weren't there.

Actually a very large number of people lost family members during covid.
The vast majority however didn't cash in on it, or put in fraudulent planning permission on the back of it.

Roussette · 18/10/2023 09:26

Sorry, I should say... in my picture I linked the Ingram Moore's house is on the right not the left.
The neighbour who is very unhappy is on the left.

whatdidshedotogetahillnamedafterher · 18/10/2023 09:34

Charity begins at home don;t they say? Pretty damned sure they, her and her ghastly husband bloody well made sure it did for them.

FilthyforFirth · 18/10/2023 13:37

Isn't there another sister? I wonder if she is a decent human and doesnt get on with the grifting money/fame hungry one?

Startyabastard · 18/10/2023 15:35

I'm possibly being a bit stupid, but did she steal from the money that was raised by the go fund me or similar and/or from the money raised by the book sales?
Did the book sales state that a percentage would be given to the NHS?
If his daughter stole from the go fund me, that is absolutely obscene.
If the book sales didn't stipulate about the charity money, that could be a grey area but still leaning towards stealing.

It doesn't need a witch hunt - it's out in the open that she profited from the charity. Lots of people lost loved ones but lots of people didn't take other people's money in the process.

Yes, quite astonishing all the fuss made about some "global pandemic" given only one single person died, isn't it?

Crikeyalmighty · 19/10/2023 20:54

@DonnaBanana where do you draw the line though- Jimmy Saville raised shedloads of money and did things that made plenty of people happy.

It's like saying Farage was a witch hunt. No- he was a shafting devil who knew how to screw naive people based on their prejudices. Got away with it because he wasn't a declared charity, the only reason this lot (captain toms family) are being investigated is the fact of a very grey areas as to where some funds were going-and charities have to be water tight in declaring that or can be investigated

blue823jade · 24/10/2023 15:38

It is such a shame that Captain Toms legacy has been marred by the actions of those closest to him. I don't believe for one moment that he wanted the book profits to be retained by the family. I think this is Ingram-Moores idea. As you correctly say— his wishes are alluded to in the forward of his book. I think Ingram-Moore has convinced herself that this is what her father wanted, when it is highly likely that the reality is that he said northing of the sort. The Ingram Moores seem quite comfortable and not short of a bob or two. One thing I will bank on, is that people with money will always want more of the same and where large amounts are being made for charity they will always find a way of skimming off the top for their own gain.
