To not understand how Hannah Ingram-Moore can lie so unashamedly?

So she's admitted keeping over £800k of the money raised for herself. Claims it was her fathers wish, even though it wasn't documented anywhere, that the proceeds from his book stay in the family. The foreword of the book talks of his delight to be able to raise even more money through sales of his book. She claims nobody has been mislead.

And then cried.

How is there not being a bigger deal made of it?

Tom came across as lovely.

thats just it though, he came across that way, none of us know him or his intentions or his character. It's much more comfortable and compelling for people to think he was a lovely old gent who was blind to his families greed and exploited, than accept he might have been very cunning and took people for a ride. We just don't know either way.

He was a former Captain, so quite a high rank, and he lived in an expensive area of the country for housing. He did alright for himself, make no mistake. Unlike many of the lower ranked "cannon fodder" soldiers he would have had as contemporaries.

His daughter is also a high-net worth individual, has her own businesses with her partner and also works as a consultant. She also lives in a grand home and her children go to private schools.....and that was BEFORE all this money raising malarkey started.

I think the daughter encouraged the charity act right, left and centre, as a money making opportunity. She is obviously money obsessed. We will never know if Capt. Tom knew her true intentions.

It’s a massive amount of money and I work in healthcare, do not know anyone that has benefitted from it all.

terrywynne · 12/10/2023 18:21

It is perfectly possible for people to have carried out actions that are worthy of admiration and respect whilst still being ruthless/shellfish/other negative trait people. No comment on this particular instance but people shouldn't be venerated and above all criticism just because of wartime bravery.

Good point.

It would be interesting to have reports of an audit into exactly which NHS charities the money went to, how much each one got, and detailed receipts from each benefitting charity of precisely what was bought and when.

100% transparency and this needs to happen. There needs to be an investigation.

The whole thing stank from the start. I can’t believe that people are surprised by this after the carefully planned and executed marketing campaign the family ran. Grifters gonna grift.

It's a wonder how the charity made so much money with the hindsight lot coming out the woodwork 🙄

Why? She knows her PR. People wanted a feel good story. They were given one.

Likewise, health care is a 'massive' arena. Is it likely you personally will know the charity's benefits?

I agree with previous posters about the unsavoury feeling in this thread. He liked Bozza, that's it, he was a wrong un 😂😅

I'm referring to all those who knew something was off. Like I say surprised the charity took off in the first place if it was so suspicious, according to the majority 🤔

I can’t believe they took their children on TV with them when they would have had zero to do with any of this decision making.

Agreed if I was under fire for something I’d keep my kids as far away from the public eye as possible, and it wouldn’t make any difference whether I thought I was in the right or not.

Ilefttownonsaturday · 12/10/2023 18:30

I hope HMRC extract every last penny owing in taxes from her. Although I expect she's had it funnelled into an off shore account.

Talking of shameful behaviour. Maybe this shameful speculation about a man who's no longer here to defend himself, is uncalled for. The daughter is fair game, Captain Tom is not. You crack on though and fill your boots.

You could make the same arguement about Jimmy Savile. Where do you draw the line?

I imagine those (like me) who found it odd are happy to post here. Those who donated and were taken in, are probably not wishing to post maybe.

Anyway, you can still buy Captain Tom Gin on Amazon for £40. Hmm The special barrel bottles for £100 have been withdrawn from everywhere though.

Jimmy Saville comparisons now ffs!!!

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 12/10/2023 18:33

I never gave to this. The NHS should be funded properly through the government - not charity.

Thank you, this.

Sunplant · 12/10/2023 18:34

Thisisme23 · 12/10/2023 16:32

It always puzzled me why the media went so bonkers over this sweet looking old guy walking round his garden to raise money. There were plenty of other fund raising attempts going on at the same time but somehow the media just focussed on this one man (and his already rich family)

I remember looking at the donation page right at the beginning and there was a link on there to some publicity or media company (or thats what it seemed like to me) and that was his daughters company. I thought it seemed dodgy then and never donated.

The fact that shes continued to capitalize on Toms publicity and scoop out money and planning applications along the way ever since is astonishing TBH.
Hopefully there will be a full investigation at some point (I believe Tom's trust is already under the spotlight of the charity commission).

The whole thing stank from the beginning

Edited

Yes at the time there was another (non white) man of a similar age who was also raising money for the NHS by walking and he got far hardly any coverage.

Zanatdy · 12/10/2023 18:34

She should be ashamed, her father would be turning in his grave. She was too interested from the start for someone who was just in it for the charity.

fortheloveofflowers · 12/10/2023 18:20

It’s a massive amount of money and I work in healthcare, do not know anyone that has benefitted from it all.

Most of the money raised went to NHS Charities Together and there is an audit trail on how it was spent. For example, a lot went on staff and patient wellbeing.

The Captain Tom Foundation was a separate organisation and this is the one being investigated.

Cattenberg · 12/10/2023 18:37

Is there any evidence at all that Captain Tom was involved in any wrongdoing? If not, then surely we should presume he was innocent.

LadyWhineglass · 12/10/2023 18:37

I want to know more about Captain Tom’s sex life is a phrase I never thought I would use.

MayThe4th · 12/10/2023 18:37

Some of this thread has a really unpleasant vibe to it.

I think it’s evident that the daughter has exploited the opportunity to make money for herself. I don’t think she could have planned it though, more that it was an opportunist moment which she then exploited.

But to assume that he was a part of it is uncalled for. We know absolutely nothing about him, and any one of us could ultimately be implicated by association with someone who is guilty of wrongdoing.

he is dead and not here to defend himself or even to voice an opinion..

As for the poster who compared him to Jimmy Saville, you should be ashamed of yourself. Frankly the comparison to Jimmy Saville that some people make when they feel it appropriate to accuse a dead person of something is despicable.

berksandbeyond · 12/10/2023 18:41

Honestly, everyone who gave them money was an idiot. Not sure why we hero worshipped a rich old man walking around his mansion. This weak old man who was then shuffled off to Barbados which ultimately killed him. Whole thing was a joke to be honest!

Roussette · 12/10/2023 18:42

I don't think Captain Tom should be criticised at all. Anyone who has had a 90 something parent or relative knows that whilst having all their faculties (so please don't accuse me of saying he was incapable) will lean on their families and take their advice. They need their children and I think he will have accepted what his daughter said.
And he had flypasts, met people he would never have met otherwise, all that sort of thing.

I save my criticism for Hannah Ingram Moore and her husband.
