To think its not okay to great gazans as israel has been

Gaza has no food, no electricity and no water. On top of that they are being bombarded constantly
Israel has bombed the only escape route for refugees via Egypt, there is no way out
israel continues the blockage by air, land and sea - no aid can get in, no one can get out.
israel has said they will obliterate Gaza.

this is unprecedented, no matter what happens with governments or wars, you have refugee camps…safe havens…(often difficult) access to water - how are we even debating that this is acceptable? Am i the only person thinking this is the human race at its absolute worst? Its heartbreaking to watch, literally noone is doing anything - we are observing a genocide.

Oh for goodness sake. You can't have a go at people for posting unverified evidence saying it was the IDF, then ignore the unverified evidence saying it wasn't. Or is it only okay if it absolves them of any wrongdoing?
Whether firm evidence comes from an Israeli, British, American... whatever nationality, it's irrelevant. I don't think thr majority of posters blame Israelis - I don't. I blame Hamas and the Israeli government.

Oliotya · 18/10/2023 10:37

His actual wording was far too wishy washy to considered anything close to confirmation. Clearly nobody knows at this point and likely nobody will ever fess up.

His wording is despicable, as is reassuring Netanyahu. Tell him to let aid through and stop reassuring the man responsible for the siege that is killing so many Gazans. It's beyond infuriating at this stage that it's allowed to continue.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/10/2023 11:57

CNN reports that Biden saying it wasn't an Israeli bomb

I don't like his phrasing of "the other team", though I guess it's better than his all too frequent misnaming of the country involved, but why on earth is he having to sit there with yet another cue card??

Granted it's not really the point here, but if he can no longer be relied on to do the job properly, for god's sake someone get him out of view and into retirement

Notmytotoro · 18/10/2023 12:06

PurpleChrayne · 11/10/2023 23:09

Maybe the Hamas government should have used all its aid (the most in the world) to invest in infrastructure instead of weapons.

Exactly, how they have money to buy bombs, guns, rockets but not to install water and electricity for their own people so they would be more independent from Israel?

They don't care about civilians, that much is clear. Neither government in this conflict does, not those in Gaza.
Gaza is effectively an open-air prison. Stopping the IDF's (pre-current situation) abuse and harming of Palestinian civilians would be difficult, and they'd still be at the mercy of checkpoints.

In all seriousness, I don't think Biden is that cognitively sharp any longer so he's likely to use phrasing like that as a cover for possibly forgetting the correct noun.

I have been channel hopping all throughout this escalation and its shocking to see the difference in the reporting with the likes of UK based news outlets and the likes of Aljazeera.

No wonder there are so twisted views on MN, this morning alone Aljazeera news interviewed the heads of the UN, USA, Egypt, Palestine and Israel. They even have reported on the ground in Gaza and have been talking to doctors and civilians all day, the information and story's being told are a world away from the UK media spin.

Egypt have aid convoys lined up and they are not allowed into Gaza because Israel will not allow them through, as they fear they will take in weapons into Gaza, yet the UN and Egypt have said they will search them all but Israel still refuse.

Egypt is also refusing to let Palestinians flee into their country on the simple fact they fear Israeli are trying to force them out and will not let them return. that is straight from the Egyptian government.

Many Palestinians are now going back north as they were promised they would be safe in the south, Israel have continued to bomb the south. So all the ones interviewed are now saying what is the point trying to flee to the south with no home and no where to go and still be blown to pieces. Its better to return to the north and die in dignity in their own homes.

As for the hospital I'm not sure who bombed it last night, too much propaganda, but the fact is it has already been targeted 3 times in the last week all missile strikes from Israel, this was confirmed by the UN interviewed and hospital staff. 3 days ago the cancer wing was destroyed by an Israeli strike and luckily few were injured, before that the director of the hospital who has a home on the hospital grounds was destroyed by a missile and a 3rd was reported to have just missed the main building earlier. All verified reports by the UN and Staff, no one cared until this one as its all good propaganda.

The Head of the UN has also said he is extremely frustrated with the US, France and UK, they have drafted a ceasefire proposal days ago but the only reason it has not been passed or acted upon is because the USA and European leaders have refused to vote for it as it contains the wording ceasefire. They want it replaces with humanitarian pause to get their dual nationals out only. That speaks volumes! So why is none of this really being reported in our news.

@creativeblossom Al Jazeera is owned by Qatar, an Islamic state in which non-muslims are still second class citizens. It funds Hamas.

If you're going to accuse other media of spin and bias but neglect to mention who owns Al Jazeera that's the only response you get.

So your entire post is pointless as you have not commented or disputed or disclaimed any of my points. There for I can ignore all your posts as hollow hot air.

I wont bother replying to you again as you have nothing to say what so ever, you cannot even claim any of my points were incorrect.

ChickHenLittle · 18/10/2023 15:12

The ownership of Al-Jazeera is common knowledge, why should the poster have to announce it?
Every YouTube video from them has a note saying that they are funded by the Qatari government.

In 2021, an Al Jazeera spokesperson told Axios, "Al Jazeera Media Network is a Private Foundation for Public Benefit under Qatari law; it is not owned by Qatar, and its content is not directed or controlled by the Qatari government nor does it reflect any government viewpoint."

Wrong keep spouting your bullshit, as i said when are you going to discuss any of my points? 🤔

Oh that's right you cannot.

Media spin and bias are not generally matters of 'correctness' or otherwise. You could have a media outlet that only ever reported things that were technically true, yet could also be completely biased in what it omits, and in placing its own spin on things. You're the one holding up a Qatari-owned media outlet as unbiased, it was on you to inform people about how extraordinary such neutrality is in light of its ownership.

Does the ceasefire proposal include retunring all the hostages? Or perhaps just the children, elderly people and sick? You know, for humanitarianism.

Doesn't the fact that Israel gets to block humanitarian aid into Gaza show the huge power imbalance? It doesn't control Gaza so why does it have a say?

Absolutely correct. Its not all european leaders that have not voted for a ceasefire, infact its america that used its veto powers - the only country to have voted against. The UK and Russia abstained which is typical UK style all the other countries voted for a ceasefire.

that made me flinch. But quite frankly while aI hope it wasn’t the Israelis ( either accidentally or deliberately) Biden’s comments are neither here nor there.
I’ll wait for some kind of independent proof/opinions.

Ahfeckingfeckit · 19/10/2023 09:12

‘Does the ceasefire proposal include retunring all the hostages?’

They aren’t going to return all, the hostages are probably one of the reasons Israeli hasn’t bombed Gaza off the face of the earth completely. And they are the only leverage Hamas has.
But as negotiations are going on hopefully the more vulnerable hostages will be released

Oh, how kind. You mean the 3 year old they kidnapped alone after murdering her parents? Or the 85 year old woman?
Or the 9 month old baby?
Ceasefire in return for hostages. Water and electricity in return for hostages?
Pretty sure israel would accept that.
But of course they'd also have to find all those abducted as many were also abducted by ordinary gazans who came to loot and take home their own personal trophies to sell to the highest bidder.
