To think its not okay to great gazans as israel has been

Gaza has no food, no electricity and no water. On top of that they are being bombarded constantly
Israel has bombed the only escape route for refugees via Egypt, there is no way out
israel continues the blockage by air, land and sea - no aid can get in, no one can get out.
israel has said they will obliterate Gaza.

this is unprecedented, no matter what happens with governments or wars, you have refugee camps…safe havens…(often difficult) access to water - how are we even debating that this is acceptable? Am i the only person thinking this is the human race at its absolute worst? Its heartbreaking to watch, literally noone is doing anything - we are observing a genocide.

It's terrifying.
People are angry enough on here.

We must wait for verification.
We must.

If Israel have done this : they will loose any moral high ground and will be hated around the world. It will make all Jewish people targets.

No one will support them. They will be a line trying too defend themselves. Which leads me to ask, why?

If it was their accident they must pay.

But if its hammas or jihad what then?

If it is this reaction is playing into their hands.

It's horrific.

Absolutely beyond horrific.

If Israel has done this they will loose all support.

It's not surprising all these threads are getting pulled. The level of ignorance is astounding. Contentious, defamatory statements, left, right and centre.

DontLeanOnTheKeyboard · 17/10/2023 22:09

Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein both his out in tunnels. They didn’t obliterate a city to try to find them, and their supporters.

Go after the terrorists. Go after them with dogs. Let the dogs rip them to shreds. Let them suffer unbearably.

But don’t kill a city.

FOJN · 17/10/2023 22:09

Hamas don't take receipt of manufactured rockets, they make them. Launch failures and rockets going off course is quite common. They fire a fair few rockets at Israel but none have levelled a building with 500 inhabitants either in Israel or Gaza, if the launch fails. I think it highly unlikely they have the weapons capability to destroy a hospital.

I would have found it really hard to believe Israel could do this two weeks ago but given they are bombing fleeing refugees, a refugee camp and a UN building
containing 4000 people seeking refuge it's not so hard to believe now.

Let's see.

@Efacsen Yes, we talked a couple of days ago about the water and the risk of diseases from lack of clean water. Dead bodies also add to the risk of typhoid, I think. Even if this ends today, people won't be able to live there.

No water means no sewage systems. It's not just typhoid but cholera and dysentery.

It also means no wound care. My anticipation is that plenty of the wounded, who would never have been in danger in a functioning state, will die of simple sepsis, gangrene...

It is all pretty horrific.

Absolutely this

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 17/10/2023 22:13

Where was the proof of bombing fleeing people. It was said to be hammas from a van loaded with explosive.

If Israel has done this, it will be the most biggest act of self harm agaisnt itself it could ever do.

Convenient for hammas that the palestinian president has cancelled Biden.

Please everyone, report any posts you think spread misinformation and are inflammatory of either Jewish people or Palestinians or even personal attacks that drag any discussion down. Mumsnet are slow to delete but they do remove some of these posts eventually. We all owe it to our children that we don't spread hate, even if we think we are supporting people who are experiencing hardship and war or especially then, we have got to be better than that. If you post inflammatory content you are actively leaving a legacy of hate and propaganda. Support your cause, donate, spread peace and love, be inclusive of all the innocent people on all sides not just the one you naturally affiliate with. All our dc go to school with Palestinians and Jewish kids, do you want your dc's generation to promote hate and bigotry?

Some of the things I've read from adults, on this subject, is frightening. The amount of minimising of what Hamas did, with a cursory, what they did was disgusting, but ...🙄then you've got the blatant disregard for any indication that Israel wasn't responsible for the hospital bombing.

I have to say I'm not surprised to find some apparent adults on Mumsnet immediately go with what Hamas Gaza Health Ministry claims.

First impressions matter as does the emotional punch of people believing something.

It's a reaction that really enables terrorist propaganda to spread like wildfire. Seen it happen so many times over the years.

Then there's those who overestimate military capabilities!

Quite a bit of circular reasoning going in tonight.

Bin Laden didn't hide in tunnels or caves! For about the last five years of his life as a fugitive, his home had been a large compound in Abbottabad, shared with several wives and children and a handful of supporters. The location was scarcely a mile from the Pakistan Military Academy in Kakul.

Saddam Hussein was found in a spider hole.

Do you not remember what actually happened in Iraq and Afghanistan?!

That included the USAF mistakenly hitting a hospital in Kunduz, Afghanistan.

Absolutely, I'm pleased that there are still a few sensible heads around Flowers.

MN has become a channel for propaganda and hate in this crisis. Some posters mean well but are misguided. The rhetoric of babies being harmed is being used by all parties. I'm not saying babies aren't harmed, I know they are and were but it's being used for propaganda.

Check your Whats App status updates, there is a lot of emotive propaganda being circulated.

Great Post. I'm glad you could keep a straight face to address that naivety! There have been some barrack room lawyers out tonight.

NotTerfNorCis · 17/10/2023 22:33

To be fair, the first reports about the hospital from the BBC and the Guardian did say 'an airstrike'.

EasternStandard · 17/10/2023 22:37

When you see posters hoping for escalation in the region, as I saw on another thread, I’d say just delete as mnhq has done

It's amazing how many things about the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts have slipped from the collective memories of so many, isn't it?

I'm sure there's a reason why several posters are so quick to believe what Hamas says under a respectable sounding name and to blame Israel...🤔

There's a lesson in there for people - journalists are not infallible.

Patience is a virtue and people should wait for facts to come through the fog of war.

elkiedee · 17/10/2023 23:04

After announcing that they planned to bomb Gaza, Israel ordered that citizens leave or be bombed. Since then, both Gaza City in the north and people on the road making their way south have been bombed. And this must inevitably have included women and children. Half the 2.3 million population of Gaza before recent events were children. At least half the population were presumably female.

Then Israel started ordering an evacuation of the hospitals - does anyone really need to spell out why that's unreasonable or impossible? Were they not indicating that they had plans to bomb the areas where hospitals are, including those hospitals, if not to make them actually a target?

You do realise he's just a youtuber right?

Prrambulate · 18/10/2023 00:17

No, he’s the digital media officer for the office of Netanyahu. One who publicly spoke about joining Netanyahu’s political team, by invitation, last year. “Just a YouTuber’ is disingenuous.

FOJN · 18/10/2023 00:41

Prrambulate · 18/10/2023 00:23

He was born in 1995 so would have been 22 in 2017. A previous article about him said he had been working for the former Prime Minister for 3 years, the article was undated. Netanyahu was Foreign Affairs Minister in 2017 but has been Prime Minister on two previous occasions. There is nothing on SM to indicate he still works for the Netanyahu team and nothing to indicate the word "officer" ever appeared in his job title. I doubt he would be posting under a personal twitter handle in an official capacity. He seems like a good self publicist.

He describes himself variously as a YouTuber, social media influencer, vlogger and journalist. He's just been conscripted by the IDF who he has previously served with.

Efacsen · 18/10/2023 06:03

Is it too far-fetched that Naftali's Twitter account could have been hacked??

Hamas spent more than 2 years planning the attack of 7/10 - surely they must have had some idea of what they would do afterwards when the inevitable retaliation came?

Besides the sadist thugs who broke into Israel - did they have IT/tech people as they messed up the Erez crossing surveillance hub so thoroughly or did they just smash it to pieces/set it on fire? Guess that's the sort of thing that may never be known
