To be against the attacks on Palestine

Threemangoes · 11/10/2023 13:42

What happened in Israel was horrific by Hamas. But why are Palestinians being restricted, bombed, dehydrated and deprived of basic needs because of terrorists? Why is the world supporting Israel commiting war crimes?

Hamas are sick fucks to kill innocents. But it's like history repeating again. 9/11 caused millions of Iraqis killed for what?

Have we learned nothing from the past???

BBC World Service are doing a sterling job - not sure if the content is as the same as what being shared on the BBC in the UK, but worth listening to.

Yes, I've been mostly listening to the WS since Saturday. Have found it balanced and very focused on hearing the voices and testimonies of ordinary Gazans and Israelis.

Please give this a watch. Seems unsurprisingly that not only have they cut off basic utilities but are deliberately targeting communications. No witnesses, No means of getting information out.

https://twitter.com/MiddleEastEye/status/1712463960602243511

Deliberately cutting communications is not a war crime. It is permitted to prevent enemy soldiers from having the means to communicate with each other to form units, battle groups and tactical decisions.

In an urban setting, the severing of communications will incidentally affect the civilian population as opposed to say hundreds of square miles in a remote setting eg the desert or the Falkland Islands. Even for civilians digital communications are not essential for their survival.

@StowOnTheWold nor essential for survival? I think they are in this day and age..no communications means no hope for aid.

It's also a way of silencing the Palestinians so when Israel do commit a war crime the world can not hear or see it

Anyone who has seen the video of that poor woman knows perfectly well that she is FUCKING DEAD.

On your first point, International Humanitarian Law disagrees with you. A smartphone might be essential for your survival but they are not essential for civilians in conflict. Food and water is.

On your second point, smartphones were not around during the Nuremberg Trials.

The woman in question's mother has been told she is alive but critical, in a Gazan hospital with a serious head injury.

Whether she has anything more than vague updates to go on, or has been able to confirm that update I don't know but could you take the time to remember that while you're posting "FUCKING DEAD" that you're talking about an actual person, and that there are people on this forum with family, friends and colleagues caught up in this conflict.

SomeCatFromJapan · 12/10/2023 21:44

Of all the lies and misinformation, this one stands out to me as particularly wicked. That poor soul was certainly not receiving any help, she was receiving the very opposite of that, her family had to see that video, and those lying fucks have then traumatised them even further.
She was not living, and only the absolute desperation of her family's grief would have had them see anything different.

This made me chuckle. The teenagers I know certainly think their smartphone is essential for survival 😆

People here are too focused on who got hurt most! If we’re gonna play that game (even though human lives are not a tally chart) thousands of Palestinians have died compared to Israeli casualties as there is a huge power imbalance. What no one is talking about is what the solution should be. Or is everyone happy for hamas to kidnap more innocents and Israel to continue bombing Palestine until there is no more land to steal?

sadmumuk · 12/10/2023 22:28

There’s no denial but people want to make up things and state it as fact which is a very dangerous path to tread in. This whole thread has been mostly what about this and what about that. Both parties have done terrible inhumane atrocities but if people want to discuss it in a numbers game Israel has committed a hundred times more crimes. Search Google at your own peril.

Also has anyone become mentally affected by these events? I cried when I saw the Jewish man breaking down over his daughter who had been kidnapped. When he said he had tried to protect her his whole life.

And on TV today saw an image of a Palestinian man who was found dead with his baby daughter, both holding on to each other even in death.

Thats going to haunt me forever.

sadmumuk · 12/10/2023 22:32

The things I have seen today on social media are inhumane. I wish people would put a disclaimer before uploading images on instagram and twitter. I saw dead children with their parents under the rubble. Parents screaming over their family members and children. I just want to take their pain away.

Also if someone’s children have been murdered by Israel wouldn’t that lead them to extremism? So more supporters for Hamas?

sadmumuk · 12/10/2023 22:34

Israel is cutting communication so they can commit unspeakable things without anyone witnessing it. No one is going to stop them because they know now with the worlds support they can get away with anything.

sadmumuk · 12/10/2023 22:39

This isn’t a war as there’s a huge power imbalance. Palestine don’t have an army and are controlled by Israel. Hence why Israel can cut supplies and communication. And not the other way round.

CagneyAndLazy · 12/10/2023 22:41

Are you for real real?!

YOU are possibly the worst protagonist of this on the entire site.

Unbelievable.

fuchsteufelswild · 12/10/2023 22:53

Why doesn't Hamas surrender unconditionally?

No more air strikes by Israel.

Why doesn't Egypt open the border?

Yes, this will all lead to so much more hatred. They must know this. Everyone must know this. I don’t know what on earth is going on.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 12/10/2023 23:07

I can't believe those people had to wait nealry 4 hours for help from Israelis forces after the attack and it was so close to the border!

The president is hiding behind his so called robust fight back robust. It's a massive failing from him. Hopefully he's out at the next election.

fuchsteufelswild · 12/10/2023 23:09

The IDF has a history of using phosphorus munition so why wouldn't they now. If true, big mistake.

1dayatatime · 12/10/2023 23:15

@Parkingt111

"Shocking use of white phosphorus by Israel. I cannot believe what I am reading. Will there be an outcry? Condemnation by our governments? I highly doubt it "

++++

I have done some analysis on the photos showing alleged use of white phosphorus by Israel in Gaza.

There is a lot of misunderstanding about the use of WP. Firstly the use of white phosphorus is permitted as a marking or smoke screening. It is not to be confused with WP used as an incendiary weapon and as used for example in Vietnam and which is banned.

From the images shown about the use of WP in Gaza the only weapon in existence and available to the Israelis that would make the air burst white trails is an M825 155mm Smoke projectile used to provide screening or marking smoke. The use of which is most definitely not illegal and most definitely not used as an incendiary weapon.

man.fas.org/dod-101/sys/land/smoke.htm

Parkingt111 · 12/10/2023 23:18

@1dayatatime it has been confirmed by sky news too that white phosphorus has been used by Israel, aswell as Human Rights Watch
Are you seriously saying your analysis is more credible than the independent verification of Human Rights Watch
Did you even read the article?

NotTerfNorCis · 12/10/2023 23:22

We're going to see far more horrific war crimes committed against Palestinian civilians in the coming weeks. Israel's defenders here are already twisting themselves in knots. They're going to find it even harder to make up justifications soon, but I'm sure they'll manage.

fuchsteufelswild · 12/10/2023 23:26

Well Hamas could always surrender. Like the Afghans did to the Taliban.

Why don't they?
