To be sickened by Hamas

1000 replies

MindfullyAmazedHorse · 10/10/2023 22:08

AIBU to be sickened by what Hamas terrorists have done to innocent Israeli citizens?

I am not totally familiar with the whole Israeli - Palestinian situation. I don’t think anything political can explain what has happened over the last few days.

It is utterly horrendous what Hamas has done. I also think that Hamas are no friend to the Palestinians. They are bringing wrath on them.

I have read that this is the worst attack on innocent Jewish people since the holocaust, which is horrifying.

I am struggling to process these recent events.

I don’t know why you are trying to defend the murder of any children? I just don’t understand your frame of mind there.

Answer the question OP.

Look at what you said earlier, now answer the question

You are in charge

Would you sanction Israel cutting off food, water and electricity to the Gaza Strip...half the people there are children

Do you sanction a ground offensive?

YES OR NO?

MindfullyAmazedHorse · 10/10/2023 23:53

Feelingsad12 · 10/10/2023 23:26

I can’t understand why people don’t seem to realise this isn’t ‘retaliation’ from the Palestinian people, it is Hamas who use both their own people as cannon fodder and commit the horrific atrocities in Israel.
seeing a mother who’s children were taken from their beds and taken hostage has broken me tonight

Well put.

I haven't been so shocked by an atrocity since reading about the Rape of Nanking.

Flickersy · 10/10/2023 23:54

I'm sure all the dead children - Israeli and Palestinian - are comforted by the fact that a load of mothers on the internet are bitching and sniping at each other and continuing the animosity.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

CagneyAndLazy · 10/10/2023 23:54

@IslaWinds

Are you truly not ashamed by what you're posting?

I cannot believe what I'm reading here.

Pollyputhekettleon · 10/10/2023 23:55

CagneyAndLazy · 10/10/2023 23:51

Wow. It's even worse than I thought then.

They have no shame, obviously.

It's the only way for the world to make sense from within their worldview. What's grim is that so many liberals have picked up the same habits without having any idea of their source, because it sounds 'compassionate' or something.

There is so much antisemitism dressed up in whataboutery on these threads about Israel.

Hamas have committed utterly indecent, inhuman atrocities in crimes absolutely reminiscent of those perpetrated by other Islamist groups like ISIS.

There is no excuse. None.

Unfortunately antisemitism, like misogyny is still widely accepted by large swathes of society.

This.

Many people on MN are clearly anti semitic

I haven't been so shocked by an atrocity since reading about the Rape of Nanking.

It reminded me of the Armenian Genocide. There were terrible atrocities against children then too including unborn babies 😭

MindfullyAmazedHorse · 10/10/2023 23:45

No, it is categorically untrue.

https://www.amnesty.org/en/location/middle-east-and-north-africa/israel-and-occupied-palestinian-territories/report-israel-and-occupied-palestinian-territories/

the IDF DO kill children. Of course they do. It’s war.

The actions of Hamas are evil. The actions of the IDF are evil. Neither trumps the other- neither can be justified. Many of us have been aware of, and deeply deeply disturbed by the terror being brought to the Palestinian people for years. And now we feel the same for the people of Israel. To have taken a side as you have is… unimaginable to me. No life is worth grieving less or more, especially when they are children.

I wonder has anyone in the history of this baboon species actually felt shame just because someone told them that they should be ashamed? I suppose there's probably one, there's always one.

Is your only response personal insults? To be honest I feel sorry for someone like you, who thinks the murder of innocents is in any way ok.

Criticism of Israel's actions is not anti semitism.

From the Oxford dictionary:

"hostility to or prejudice against Jewish people."

HAMAS are evil. That doesn't mean that everyone who calls out Israel for their actions in this whole sorry story is an anti-Semitic. If there was more nuance in discussions we might have found a solution by now.

A handful of people think you are unreasonable to be sickened by it, according to the vote. Absolutely revolting.

It's more than a handful, it's 20% as I type this.

Sickening to think these people are on MN.

BumWad · 11/10/2023 00:00

Yes to the denial 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

I don’t understand how you can justify this massacre of innocent people?

And I am not uneducated by the way.

I don’t think Hamas give a damn about anything that the Palestinians may have suffered. Do you?

May have?

Toothyfruity · 11/10/2023 00:01

Here's the Palestinian children murdered by Israel in the first 3 months of 2023. For those who are ignoring the fact that this is an ongoing issue for the Palestinians and has been for years.

May they rest in peace, and all the children murdered this week in Israel and Palestine.

To be sickened by Hamas
marblemad · 11/10/2023 00:01

But please remember israel are not wholey innocent and have been antagonising palestine increasingly recently. Children and women are getting attacked on both sides and both need to stop.

MindfullyAmazedHorse · 11/10/2023 00:01

Tinkerbyebye · 10/10/2023 23:33

Whilst it’s been an ongoing situation since forever, this is not a Palestine / Israel War as others have been. Hamas are terrorists, they don’t care who dies, Palestinians or Israelis and that’s the difference. Both Palestine and Israel have questions to answer about how both countries have behaved.

But Hamas have to be aware that Israel will never stop protecting its borders and its people, you just have to look at history to see that. Hamas knew exactly what they were doing and exactly what Israel would do, and Hamas don’t care how many people, Israeli or Palestinian, or indeed any other nationality die

Yes I think you make a very good point here.

People are justifiably angry that there are others excusing the behaviour of terrorists. Mumsnet is a place where people exchange views, that's it's raison d'etre. It's not 'sniping' to ask why someone thinks it's ok to do what Hamas did.

Runnerinthenight · 11/10/2023 00:03

Surely any right thinking person would condemn violent atrocities, no matter who perpetrates them?

WTF is wrong with the world in 2023 that such evil acts still are carried out? How as human beings have we not learned the lessons of the past?

It's a tragedy, for all who have suffered, and all who will suffer. And for what.

Mothers on the internet are hurting, many are in shock - they're worried about family in Israel or family in Gaza, others are worried about repercussions towards their communities in the UK. They need an outlet for their grief as well as panic and about what's still to come. Sure, there's some bad faith posters and personal insults but what's happened in the last week is having a profound effect on people and MN is a discussion platform is it not?

MindfullyAmazedHorse · 11/10/2023 00:03

CagneyAndLazy · 10/10/2023 23:34

Exactly that.

And countless MNers are defending them.

It's truly staggering. They would never, ever defend ISIS but they're more than happy to do so with Hamas because it's Jews that these animals are murdering.

The left has a MASSIVE problem with antisemitism and it's laid bare on MN.

Shameful. Absolutely shameful.

Yes the antisemitism is scary.

It's baffling. And worrying. Both sides have committed terrible and (as far as I can tell) extremely similar atrocities.
