I'd imagine the general consensus is frustration. Many have family in the West Bank and in Gaza. Many empathise with the plight of the Palestinians but similarly want all this suffering to end.

I just think that if they withdraw the settlements from the West Bank and return some dignity to those in the OPT's then we are more likely to see progress.
I always believe that it is time for Netanyahu to go.

I also think that Saudi Arabia has a lot to answer for here. In fact, the majority of the gulf nations have to answer for this. Palestinians are pawns in an awful chess game amongst giant players and are used as collateral

It is interesting to me that the king of Jordan (about whom I knew practically nothing until now) is wearing a business suit to meet Blinken, not traditional Arab attire.

Queen Rania also wears European dress all the time, sometimes with above-knee skirts, and is generally very chic.
Jordan is a good example of what Palestine could have been without extremists at the top.

sadmumuk · 13/10/2023 11:40

The leader in the West Bank has said Bibi has not turned up to Peace talks in the past.

Israel wants to continue with its land grab.

sadmumuk · 13/10/2023 11:41

I don’t know who you’ve been talking to but most Arabs I’ve spoken to want peace and a two state solution.

sadmumuk · 13/10/2023 11:45

But the fact is, Jewish people DO have the right to self determination. Palestinians don’t. That is the root cause of the problem. Jews can go live in Israel whenever they want but Palestinians don’t even have passports.

Jews are protected in the UK, overseas have the support of colonial powers.

jews deserve a safe space and Israel has had many successes BUT at the expense of the Palestinians! The land grabbing and violence must stop!

amicissimma · 13/10/2023 11:48

"Palestinians don’t even have passports."

The Palestinian Authority issues passports. Not every country recognises them, as not every country recognises the Palestine as a state, but some do.

sadmumuk · 13/10/2023 11:48

Palestinians have lived peacefully for hundreds of years until the settlers came. Where should more than 5 million people go?

The Jews were living there as second class citizens, dhimmis, for centuries following the Islamic conquest. So if that's who you mean by 'Palestinians', no they weren't living there peacefully. They were systematically, legally, oppressed by the majority Muslim population. Yellow stars and all. That's not peace.

sadmumuk · 13/10/2023 11:54

Why are you talking gibberish!?

People are dying. You should take that seriously and learn things before discussing this.

Op here, thank you

Horrified by the tragedy which is hurting innocent civilians on both sides

emilysquest · 13/10/2023 12:27

It is interesting to me because a lot of Arab leaders are never seen in Western attire. It does send a message.

emilysquest · 13/10/2023 12:28

That was an answer to @piddocktrumperiness

Yeah, to be honest, I certainly get the vibe he is not interested in that. He outright said decades ago that he saw the occupied territories as a way of maintaining security. He really needs to go!

Israel and Palestine are separate countries.

Israeli citizens have passports (whether they are Muslim or Jewish). Israel can also decide (like any sovereign nation) who it wants to give citizenship to or not - and given it's entire purpose was to be a homeland for Jews in diaspora it is completely logical that is what they do.

Palestine is responsible for providing passports to it's own citizens. If you research a bit, you'll find the Arab league and surrounding countries have had a lot of involvement in depriving Palestinians of citizenship and so on. For example:

Jordan: Palestinian refugees struggle amid UNRWA funding cuts

Descendants of Palestinian refugees from Gaza live in Jordan without citizenship or rights, relying on UN agency.

I wonder how reasonable you would be, if it were your own children, sisters, mothers, fathers and sons, singled out for barbaric murder, rape and torture, no they weren’t collateral damage, civilian victims of war, they were selected in cold blood for the heinous barbaric acts that followed. The perps must face extreme prejudice, when caught, instantly!

sadmumuk · 13/10/2023 13:19

Casually supporting the genocide of babies. Okay.

I am Jewish.

Is the above post a joke?

gloria1980 · 13/10/2023 14:13

You think it is a joke to seek revenge against those who slaughtered innocents in the charnel house created by hamas, I pity you.

No one is supporting the Genocide of babies FFS!

And please do some reading on the history of Judea and the background of the region going back at least 2000 years so you have an inkling of what is going on .

There are some good informative YouTube clips that are impartial and give excellent historical facts in a nice easy to absorb way.

"Israel and Palestine are separate countries."

Probably THE most disingenuous thing I've seen on here.

If that were true, why are Israelis bulldozing homes and villages and building on Palestinian land to the tune of 650,000 Israelis.

Can you clarify

They ARE separate countries and indeed Israel bulldozing and occupying parts of a different country is completely wrong and flouts international law

or

They are the same country and Israel can bulldoze what it likes.

Which is is?

piddocktrumperiness · 13/10/2023 18:55

What is the end game here though? You cannot stamp out Hamas like this? Dead men leave children behind who will be radicalised and if it is not under Hamas, it will be under someone else.

piddocktrumperiness · 13/10/2023 19:01

We end up breeding a generation of very pissed off and traumatised kids.

Why can't the International community put pressure on Netanyahu to withdraw from the West Bank- give the Palestinians in the region the right to self determination, be it in a separate state, or under one flag, but treated equally?

Most want peace

Also, the reporting in the media is a little concerning. I also find the flying of flags as a spark of tension possibly, particularly if governments are picking one side against the other as it invalidates the citizens who are under the cruel rule of Hamas, and those who are struggling with settlers in the West Bank and OPTs.

Banning protests in support of Palestinians will only fuel anger amongst factions in the Middle East who already believe the media is biased against them, further fuelling tension.

No flying flags, or fly a white flag as a PP suggested. Peace for all, not just one.
