Collective Punishment - No water, no food, no medicines

1000 replies

Lieblingsessen · 09/10/2023 19:19

I do not condone whatsoever what the Hamas attacks on civilians in Israel or their ideology

But surely, Israel laying siege to Gaza, preventing innocent civilians from accessing water, food, medicines, electricity for hospital equipment, is not justifiable. To collectively punish civilians who have no control over what Hamas or their government does. This is medieval.

Where is the outcry on the mainstream media about this? Surely it is not being anti-semitic to call out Israel, that retaliation is not unexpected, but collective punishment is horrendous.

How should Israel have responded to the Hammas attacks?

Same as France responded to the attacks or the UK after Manchester, or Brussels after the attacks? Not by committing crimes against humanity against a population of civilians they have abused for decades and who are not responsible for Hamas' actions?

How should Palestinian respond to the way Israel treats them?

WarmWinterSun · 09/10/2023 22:13

This from a pp:

‘I didn’t see the Israelis parading young girls that had been raped to death, bleeding from their vaginas whilst draped across the soldiers in the backs of trucks’

There needs to be a whole lot more outrage about these disgusting acts, not equivalence and justification.

Meanwhile, there are men waving Palestinian flags celebrating in London (I have now seen multiple groups this evening).

Ponderingwindow · 09/10/2023 22:13

I am not so naive as to think that rape does not happen in war. Supposedly it should be outlawed in modern warfare and when it does happen today is theoretically supposed to be an aberration.

Hamas resorted to using rape as a means of terror as an opening salvo. Regardless of the greater political situation, they gave Israel very little choice but to take extreme measures to defend itself. A blockade is more conservative than what could be happening.

Truthisbetterthanlies · 09/10/2023 22:13

BigBillyButterBollocks · 09/10/2023 22:09

Yes, you bloody sure can blame Israel to retaliate by cutting water and food supplies to civilians, just like you can bloody well can blame Hamas to retaliate for the displacement, abuse, apartheid, land stealing and murders of Palestinians by committing terrorist attacks.

I absolutely blame Israel fo committing crimes against humanity, like I do Hamas....

WGY SHOULD ISRAEL SUPPLY FOOD OR WATER OR INDEED ANYTHING TO A COUNTRY ITS AT WAR WITH??

WHO JUST MURDERED ABOUT 1,OOO OF ITS CITIZENS AT THE WEEKEND??

Seriously, trade is not a legal obligation. Israel is not Gaza's mum.

If Israel wants to stop supplying Gaza with stuff, it can.

Maybe Hamas should have thought of that. Such victim-blaming.

Yet another corner of the world absolutely fucked up by religious differences. Makes me sick reading the news and knowing what’s coming.

I thought that at first but apparently Israel has a massive connection with Russia. Over a million Russians live there.

I don’t think they care - they just want to stir things up to distract from their own actions in Ukraine, and generally turn people in the west against each other.

Putin was happy enough to blow up Russian citizens in Russia.

“Hamas are terrorists. Of course they need to be destroyed”

But the 2 million people crammed in to Gaza, one million of whom are kids AREN’T terrorists.

Not sure why it’s so hard for people to understand that. The people of Ireland l werent all the IRA either.

The IRA were not the only terrorist organisation in Ireland / Northern Ireland , odd that it's only them that get mentioned

Do you think that they should let food supplies and other supplies come in by the port? Easy to get large volumes in of food and medicines.

Truthisbetterthanlies · 09/10/2023 21:54

So tell me how the Palestinians could manage to smuggle in thousands of rockets, but they can't manage any medicine or food?

Why not?

And why can't they spend their billions in aid on desalination technology so they have enough water? (which is the kind of thing it's intended for, not for buying guns and rockets?) Why on earth are still relying on Israel for water nearly 20 years after Israel left Gaza?

Stop infantilising the Palestinians, stop demonising the Jews.

Again, Geneva convention. Easy.

NotTerfNorCis · 09/10/2023 22:16

Seriously, trade is not a legal obligation. Israel is not Gaza's mum.

It's Gaza's prison guard and tormenter.

Israelis have committed terrible crimes against Palestinians (and vice versa, don't get me wrong), but it wasn't filmed. Like Mohammed Abu Khdeir, 17, burned alive by 3 Israelis. Is that acceptable? And what about Ali Saad Dawabsheh, 18 months old, burned to death too, while settlers were burning his parents house? That's acceptable?

The children of Gaza didn't try to murder Israelis though did they?
There will be babies born tonight literally into medieval conditions, as the Israelis have turned the lights off.
The only solution seems to be a one state shared between the two sides- two state solution seems to have died 30 years ago when both sides gave up on it.
It's a struggle to support both sides when they both want to murder each other.
Hamas may be a terrorist organisation, but it's a (fairly) democratically elected one, albeit some time ago.

bombastix · 09/10/2023 22:18

The person who said Israel is not obliged to trade has it right. They don't.

queenofarles · 09/10/2023 22:19

And it's asking a hell of a lot of Israel to expect it to feed, water and medicate the population of a country that just tried to murder them, and is committed officially to the genocide of all Jews globally. Israel is not feeding them , all aids comes through Israeli boarder crossing into Gaza.

Yeah seriously, what the fuck is that? You break every possible international law by stealing land and displacing people, you segregate them being walls with no right to escape without permission, then it's not your problem to make sure they have food and water? In their own country?

Are we supposed to turn a blind eye to that?

bellac11 · 09/10/2023 22:19

Surely Israel is at war (if you can describe it as a war) against Hamas, not Palestine, why is there a need to conflate the two

Yet the Israeli people are not conflated with the Israeli government.

Pleidiolwyfimgwlad73 · 09/10/2023 22:19

@topnoddy splitting hairs really. I used the IRA as an illustrative example.

We're not talking about trade though? We're talking about a population being forcibly cut off from international aid?

Could you PLEASE read about the Geneva convention? It’s not so difficult to understand that doing this is a war crime…

But they are not cut off. There is a great big border with Egypt. Aid can come through via Egypt.

Except - it doesn't. It never has. Why?

Nice spot of victim blaming there.

It's sick to be an antisemite.

If you don't want to be called one, try not posting bollocks antisemitic tropes and then coming over all indignant when challenged on them. 😡

Just because you appear to lack the conscience to be horrified by the brutal Hamas massacres of innocent Israelis this weekend, don't assume that the rest of the world shares your lack of conscience on this.

Normal people are, quite rightly, horrified.

Chill mate, I only said the west aren't get involved perhaps due to our trade deals.

You are trying to have a row when there isn't one.

What are Israel's biggest 3 exports to the West?

Ukraine's biggest export to the UK is oil and grain. Why am I not allowed to say that Israel's biggest export to us is pharmaceuticals? Our biggest export to them is nuclear reactors. It's no secret!

Why is stating these simple trade facts antisemetic in your eyes?

Hamas are indefatigably opposed to Israel even continuing to exist.

They are totally opposed to any deal that involves Jews being alive.

Do you not get that?
