Collective Punishment - No water, no food, no medicines

1000 replies

Lieblingsessen · 09/10/2023 19:19

I do not condone whatsoever what the Hamas attacks on civilians in Israel or their ideology

But surely, Israel laying siege to Gaza, preventing innocent civilians from accessing water, food, medicines, electricity for hospital equipment, is not justifiable. To collectively punish civilians who have no control over what Hamas or their government does. This is medieval.

Where is the outcry on the mainstream media about this? Surely it is not being anti-semitic to call out Israel, that retaliation is not unexpected, but collective punishment is horrendous.

I expect better how can they say they are different to Hamas when they are committing the same and even worse acts

oh I missed this! I didn’t see the Israelis parading young girls that had been raped to death, bleeding from their vaginas whilst draped across the soldiers in the backs of trucks

No but you must've seen them killing children and innocent people right?

It happens all the time maybe you've become immune to it as its so common place.

@JuvenileEmu theres a bit here about the Rafah crossing & it’s history https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egypt–Gaza_border
I think Egypt has had some role in trying to broker a peace deal between Israel & Hamas so that’s why it’s been closed. I think. My grasp on the international relations in this area is not great as it’s so complex

Egypt–Gaza border - Wikipedia

NotTerfNorCis · 09/10/2023 21:57

Hypothetically, if Egypt did open its border, would it be possible to bring in enough food, medicine etc for everyone on the Gaza Strip? What about the water and electricity being cut off? Communications have also been severed. That wouldn't be solved by Egypt letting a few trucks through.

VisaWoes · 09/10/2023 21:57

Dymaxion · 09/10/2023 21:36

no, Israel control the sea. It’s why Gaza is known as the worlds largest prison. It’s a total siege

Can Egypt not open its border to the people of Gaza ? Do they not want to ? is that why it is a total siege ?

Egypt in all likelihood do not want to piss Israel off. They also won’t want to risk Hamas terrorists entering Egypt. The border crossing is small and for people only, not for goods. I believe there was an Israeli Egypt peace agreement some time ago which set out some rules for the Rafah border crossing?

Goods can come through another crossing from Egypt but must cross through Israel to get to Gaza. Israel have now stopped this happening.

justasking111 · 09/10/2023 21:57

It's like blaming all North Koreans because of the actions of the lunatic running their country.

Egypt has blood on its hands blockading them in. Iran for its supply of weapons and training. Turkey for its behind the scenes action. The Muslim brotherhood for creating Hamas.

So many warmongering bystanders.

AllyCart · 09/10/2023 21:52

Where have the Palestinians been called animals? I've read the entire thread and don't see that. Have you read it all?

And yes, there are many examples of antisemitism. Do you perhaps not understand what antisemitism is?

"“We are fighting human animals and we act accordingly,” Gallant said.
While it appears that Gallant was specifically referring to Hamas fighters in that comment, the rest of the minister’s remarks called for further oppression of all people in Gaza by denying them basic human needs.
“We are imposing a complete siege on Gaza,” Gallant said. “There will be no electricity, no food, no water, no fuel. Everything will be closed.”

SkinnyMalinkyLankyLegs · 09/10/2023 21:58

As awful as it is, I can see it from Israels point of view. Gazans are dancing and cheering in the streets for the deaths of Israeli men, women and children. Why should Israel then provide them with goods?

If someone killed one of mine, I certainly wouldn't be handing goods out to them and theirs.

NotTerfNorCis · 09/10/2023 21:58

It's insane to blame Egypt. This is Israel's mess.

Haffiana · 09/10/2023 21:58

Why is Egypt not allowing the people in Gaza to have medicines and food and water?

Are Egyptians Jews and Zionists, do you think?

Wonder why anti-Israel lies were posted on this thread claiming the crossing was permanently shut?

Strange how many antisemites afoot on this thread.

If you see anti semitism call it out and report it. Don't lie about it and call critics of Israel anti semitic. They are a regime and can be critiqued and held to account you can't point that finger at everyone.

You are completely wrong about why I said that.

Someone asked why the west stay silent. Everyone knows the world's allies are based on trade above anything else.
Perhaps google Israel's biggest exports. Or any country for that matter. You'll find that everyone allies with whoever they have the biggest trade deals with. It's not rocket science. The world turns with money and resources. Nothing else.

Myomment was absolutely nothing to do with religion.
It is sick to call people antisemetic. It's people like you who drive conflict.

Nice spot of victim blaming there.

It's sick to be an antisemite.

If you don't want to be called one, try not posting bollocks antisemitic tropes and then coming over all indignant when challenged on them. 😡

Just because you appear to lack the conscience to be horrified by the brutal Hamas massacres of innocent Israelis this weekend, don't assume that the rest of the world shares your lack of conscience on this.

Normal people are, quite rightly, horrified.

Andnowtowhatcomesnext · 09/10/2023 21:59

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind 😞

BigBillyButterBollocks · 09/10/2023 22:00

Israel has treated Palestinians as subhumans for decades. Now is their short window to do what they have been wanting to do for a long time and they have already started. How does the world tolerate Palestinians being call animals and beasts? And the supply of food and water being cut.

I am afraid we are all going to look at each other in absolute shame for what is about to happen to Palestinians in the next few weeks while the world looks away, again.

But they could let refugees into Egypt. And leave Hamas to get on with pursuing martyrdom without risking innocent lives.

Edited

Public opinion may well swing towards the Palestinians. That's likely what Hamas wanted. They know they can't beat Israel by military force.

ilovesushi · 09/10/2023 22:02

It is disgraceful. Absolutely horrifying situation.

EsmaCannonball · 09/10/2023 22:03

Hamas and Iran instigated a war. It took massive forward planning. Why didn't they have a plan for civilians or food or energy? The Palestinians are just pawns in a bigger plan to them.

I still can't think of any war where the enemy combatants have supplied each other.

BigBillyButterBollocks · 09/10/2023 22:03

JuvenileEmu · 09/10/2023 22:01

But they could let refugees into Egypt. And leave Hamas to get on with pursuing martyrdom without risking innocent lives.

This is a two sided problem that will not be fixed by bombing Gaza to rubbles. What happened is absolutely inexcusable and horrific, but it is one part of many acts of terrorism and violence from both sides. And one side can't force the other side to flee and become refugees, more than they already have. No civilians should have to flee.

NotTerfNorCis · 09/10/2023 22:04

JuvenileEmu · 09/10/2023 22:01

But they could let refugees into Egypt. And leave Hamas to get on with pursuing martyrdom without risking innocent lives.

So the solution is: Israel starves and bombs Palestinians until Egypt rescues all 2 million of them? That's asking a hell of a lot of Egypt.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 09/10/2023 22:04

itsmyp4rty · 09/10/2023 21:48

Both sides are just disgusting in their behaviour.

The poor children caught in the middle of this.

But no one really gives a shit because they're far more interested in proving their side is the right side and the other side is completely wrong - and they won't hear anything else.

Yes this too

I prefer to point out the lies and hypocrisy in my posts.

If you think I've posted something false and you/others have not in fact posted a load of lies/antisemitic tropes, then feel free to report my posts.

It is perfectly possible to criticise the Israeli government without doing it in a way that is remotely antisemitic - I do it all the time, as do countless Israelis (did you miss the recent protests in Israel?).

But if you're having to make up fake news to make Israel look bad or use antisemitic tropes, then yes, expect to get picked up and labelled as antisemitic.

Don't like it? Don't do it. Simple.

bellac11 · 09/10/2023 22:04

So people can criticise any other regime/government in the world, they can dislike them, criticise them, get things wrong about them, misunderstand them and pass on incorrect information about them (by mistake/on purpose either way), they can actively work against that regime because politically or morally they disagree with them or their actions

But no one can do the same about the Israeli government, every comment, critique, query, mistake is labelled 'anti semitic' and argument shut down.

ketchup07070 · 09/10/2023 21:04

I wonder if humanitarian organisations are still in Gaza. Maybe they can somehow negotiate some essential supplies?

Germany, Austria and the EU have suspended aid with immediate effect. The EU is apparently the biggest donor to Gaza.

Pleidiolwyfimgwlad73 · 09/10/2023 22:05

@NotTerfNorCis yes I was just about to say that too. It’s a lot to ask of Egypt
