Collective Punishment - No water, no food, no medicines

1000 replies

Lieblingsessen · 09/10/2023 19:19

I do not condone whatsoever what the Hamas attacks on civilians in Israel or their ideology

But surely, Israel laying siege to Gaza, preventing innocent civilians from accessing water, food, medicines, electricity for hospital equipment, is not justifiable. To collectively punish civilians who have no control over what Hamas or their government does. This is medieval.

Where is the outcry on the mainstream media about this? Surely it is not being anti-semitic to call out Israel, that retaliation is not unexpected, but collective punishment is horrendous.

They've told civilians to try and leave? As if that's the sum total of what they need to do?

Disgusting.

There's only one route to leave and that is into Egypt at Rafah - earlier today Reuters reported large groups of people in Gaza moving towards Rafah after the border was re-opened following Israeli bombing yesterday

Guardian is now reporting bombardment of route between Gaza and Egyptian border

So seems like 'asking people to leave' is very dangerous and currently not possible

If we are trying genocide (we aren't), we aren't very good at it are we?

We need two states living side by side.

Israel good at Apartheid though!

I think in the future people will back at this like the way they look back at other scandal that were in the public eye but never dealt with.

We often ask, if everyone knew about R.Kelly, Jimmy Saville ect, why was nothing done about it?

We know that what Israel is doing is illegal, has been illegal and will be illegal but is anything getting done? No

We also know what is about to happen in Gaza. We know.

No god would endorse this.

@Candlelight34 Hamas don't want peace which has been offered numerous times. They want to wipe Israel off the map and kill by all Jews. The Palestinian people elected them as their government and are cheering for their savagery in the streets. Palestinian children are being held aloft toting machine guns.

Do you think Jews, arguably the most persecuted people in earth, deserve to live in fear of child suicide bombers and rocket attacks?

No one deserves fear.

No one deserves attrocities, persecution and living in fear.

I disagree that Palestinians do not want peace or freedom.

I believe that an Israelí and Palestinians would want peace and freedom. Noone should have superiority.
Noone should have homelands stolen, rations on food and water.

A peace agreement needs to be impartial and fair.

A fair peace agreement should not be feared.

That's exactly what most of these posters think Jews deserve.

Make no mistake, they don't really give a shit about the suffering of the Palestinian people, as evidenced by their willingness to turn a blind eye to the suffering of the people in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, etc., caused by their own governments.

This is just a golden opportunity for them to let loose their true antisemitism without fear of being challenged on it and one they can't resist taking.

Some hostages?

It took the exchange of over 1000 Palestinian prisoners to secure the release of Gilad Shalit, one single Israeli hostage. 280 of these served life sentences for planning and perpetrating various terror attacks against Israeli targets

Now let´s consider the scale/ratio: over 1000 for 1 person.

But there are currently less than 6000 Palestinians in Israel custody (according to Al Jazeera, which is owned by Quatar, an ally and supporter of Hamas. Therefore very unlikely to keep these numbers artifcially low).

Going by tthis previous exchange it is therefore very obvious that there are not enough Palestinians in Israeli custody to barter a trade for all the people taken hostage by Hamas..

I suppose that is due to the fact that Israel won´t just walk into Palestinian areas to abduct as many Palestinians as Hamas will deem necessary for a hostage exchange.

there is also the issue that Hamas´ primary interest won´t be an exchange of wrongly convicted and or detained civlians. They will want their fighters returned.

Edited

Hamas asked to swap some of the Israeli hostages for 36 female Palestinian prisoners, in return for Israel stopping bombing civilian areas. Gaza has already had 11 medical centres destroyed. I saw this in the news, may see if I can find the headlines for anyone interested in developing events.

VisaWoes · 10/10/2023 11:26

I am glad the UN have declared the siege illegal. It very much seems the right decision. I can still think that and totally condemn the hamas attacks on Israel. I just really hope that somehow Hamas might be overthrown and maybe talks could start.

I am so glad Guterres said what he said. I am actually surprised! I mean, anyone with any knowledge of the conflict knows what he said is the only truth, I am still surprised.

I can see that the people who were hoping to see the blood of these Palestinian "animals" to flow are not very happy. Oh well, tough luck. The world just can't stay silent.

This poster makes lots of naive posts she was saying earlier that Egypt should deal with Israels Hamas problem

Hum. That's some strong denier shit right there. Russian level of gaslighting too.

Palestinians suffer because of Israel apartheid that has lasted for decades.

They suffer because of Israel constant bombing and cut of their electricity and water and food.

Israeli civilians have suffered because of the actions of Hamas.

Israelis haven't provoked Hamas actions. Palestinians haven't provoked Israel's actions.

I'm actually Ukrainian so you lost me at the point of accusing me of "russian gaslighting". I will not repeat what I usually say to people suggesting I'm russian anything.

@Thebestwaytoscareatory

This sort of comment is so manipulative and unhelpful.

Imagine if someone told you that you were actually only outraged by the Hamas attacks because you were looking for an excuse to indulge your latent Islamophobia. You would be rightly incensed.

AUserNameIsNot · 10/10/2023 13:53

Maybe this could go the way of Daesh (for better) and maybe it could go the way of Saddam (for worse). Maybe there's an inevitable ebb and flow of conflicts. Certainty in the future is not a luxury any of us have.

We do have certainty in the present. And of this I am certain: the government of Hamas is intolerable to us and we will not tolerate it.

AUserNameIsNot · 10/10/2023 13:56

There are 57 member states of the UN which are Moslem majority countries and there is one Jewish country. As I said before, we've never done well in popularity contests amongst the Gentiles, and we don't regard the UN as a fair forum.

I read the statements of Quatari negotiations, yes. Which is (presumably) what you meant.

We should also consider that Hamas has openly threatened to murder the hostages (yet again, toddlers, children, women).

Seeing as Israel will not murder the 36 female Palestinian prisoners (which happens to be the sum total of female Palestinian prisoners AFAIK) or parade them around half naked (to use a few examples) there is a clear asymmetry in negotiation power in regards to the hostages.

BigBillyButterBollocks · 10/10/2023 14:02

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 10/10/2023 12:02

I agree. But I also don´t see an other solution.

Or what would you tell a young father whose wife and two children were taken hostage?

"Oh yes, we will just wait and hope that... Hamas returns them in one piece?"

And before you mention a prisoner swap:
Gilad Shalit (one Israeli hostage) had to be exchanged for OVER THOUSAND Palestinian prisoners, 280 of these served life sentences for planning and perpetrating various terror attacks against Israeli targets. It took 5 years for him to be released.

Edited

"Or what would you tell a young father whose wife and two children were taken hostage?"

The same you tell a Palestinian father whose son has been kidnapped by Israeli terrorists and burned alive? The same you tell a Palestinain mother whose 14 years old daughter has been arrested by the Israeli army because a settler saud they saw her holding a knife, even if no knife is found on her?

"It's horrifying but it doesn't justify a mass killing of innocent civilians"?

Which is more than the silence Palestinians have been met with for decades..

There are less than 200 Palestinian minors (in total) currently incarcerated in Israel according to Quatari newsoutlet Al Jazeera. Most of them are over 15, btw.

You have previously posted a video by AJ+, I will therefore assume that you find them reliable.

Israel has NOT threatened to murder these children. Hamas however has threatened to murder the civilian hostages they took (and publically mistreat).

It is therefore not the same. And I won´t waste my time on a made up scenario where Israel threatens to murder the less than 200 Palestinian children in Israeli custody. I generally try to avoid arguing against fantasy scenarios.

Should the Muslim nations of UN not have a vote on that one and see what the others think? (It will be the same. NO ONE is going to publicly associate themselves with the atrocities happening right now in Gaza and those everybody knows are about to happen. No one. )
