To be baffled at dislike for Victoria Beckham

whenever there is something online about this woman… the haters come out in force. today someone calling her “a Katie price that can keep a husband”

what is the problem? She seems like a fairly inoffensive woman who has made a success out of her life (and that was her own success: she had it before she met David)

Why is it baffling? Surely it doesn't take much imagination.

I dislike them both because they are so greedy and take every opportunity they can to make money, including monetising their family. I don't admire any avaricious people - in real life or in the world of celebrity. I went right off Dame Judy for doing that pension commercial in a rip-off of a character that she's played in films, for which she was also no doubt handsomely paid.

Dulra · 06/10/2023 13:23

I don't hate her, don't know enough about her irl to have an opinion either way. I do though have an issue with both Victoria and David for pimping out their kids from a young age. I can't stand any celeb that does this. Be famous, be a celeb but leave your kids to have a normal childhood. Once they're over exposed like the Beckham kids are there's no going back. Harper is still only 12 but all over the media and socials not very child centred or safe in my opinion

panelbottle · 06/10/2023 13:23

I've always being curious by that David Beckhams best friend is really close to Kate Moss & that whole Primrose Hill set & they obviously move in the same circles with lots of socialising with David but not so much with David & Victoria.

Cornettoninja · 06/10/2023 13:25

I don’t really care about her one way or another. The most I can muster is probably mild irritation.

’Brand Beckham’ was basically the first influencer couple with hindsight. I’m not really seeing any particular signs of cleverness, I’m seeing a lot of luck and opportunity. David at least had some functional sporting talent. I don’t begrudge them that btw, I think it’s probably just grating to have that packaged up as some sort of amazing ability.

Neither of them actually ‘do’ much these days outside of vanity projects. I wouldn’t either if I was set financially.

Colinfromaccounts · 06/10/2023 13:25

I think people somehow feel she doesn't "deserve" David because she's not a supermodel

Do they? I’ve never got that sense tbh. Maybe back in the day when they first got together/married and he was still treated like a pop star with teenagers covering their walls with posters of him.

That generation has moved on and grown up by now surely?

panelbottle · 06/10/2023 13:30

That's a good point actually & why people weren't surprised or as sympathetic by the cheating, which is pretty harsh tbf.

There's a funny video of her getting a driving license photo in the states. She has a team of people primping her and poses like she is in a photo shoot. Then asks for a retake (which is refused) because her hair isn't right!

They also asked for a signature (for the driving licence) and she thought they wanted an autograph! There is film of this.

People hate successful women. No they don't, Beyoncé & Taylor Swift are almost revered

did you watch Taylor Swift's documentary? Revered by some, but hated by others!

Beyonce is always getting awful and ridiculous attacks too, another one who got accused of faking a pregnancy, Kate Middleton had the same thing.

Puppylucky · 06/10/2023 13:39

Isn't that film about her going for her license a joke though? It's part of a documentary about her and David in America and it's meant to be a piss take of her Posh persona.

Judi talked about that commercial - she said it wasn't so easy for her to work nowadays due to her failing eyesight. And they offered her a lot of money for not much work that she could use to pay the mortgage (or similar).

Regholdsworthswaterbed · 06/10/2023 13:46

I don't get it either. She always come across well and seems like a good mum and good egg in general. She's also a successful business woman in her own right. I think it must be jealousy because she bagged David Beckham and is super rich!

Tatslookawful · 06/10/2023 13:46

How did she manage to be so well regarded in fashion world with own label & respect of Anna Wintour? Etc? It’s such a competitive place.

She seems very pleasant & looks to be a fab Mum.

Why did they ask Elton John to be a Godparent early on though? Surely that’s a bit embarrassing, what of long standing friends, would you? Possibly a longer association am missing.

panelbottle · 06/10/2023 13:48

Being hated by some people doesn't mean someone isn't revered though. Not everyone likes Messi but he's still an icon & incredibly popular. As I said nobody is going to be liked by every single person, that's impossible.

Peachonthebeach · 06/10/2023 11:27

It’s odd . On another thread someone said she was famous because of her husband 🤣

Lol they must have been living under a rock to have not heard of the Spice Girls.

I like Vicky Beckham. She’s seems like she would have a laugh with you.

MrsMurphyIWish · 06/10/2023 12:56

I "hate" her as when she was pregnant with Harper, I was the same weeks pregnant with my DD. When watching William and Kate marrying, she looked wonderful. I was a sweaty mess.

I've never understood the hate either and after watching the Beckham doc I have more respect for her now as a mother. I couldn't imagine having to uproot my small children for my husband's job. She's a better woman than me.

Didnt they use a surrogate for harper?

but the point was that she faced so much negativity at one point, she had to go into hiding. It was way beyond not being universally liked, she got a proper public beating.

A few haters here and there don't matter.

No they didn't use a surrogate , there was talk of sex selection as they wanted a girl but don't know if any of that is true

ILikeDinosaurs · 06/10/2023 14:01

I never liked her when she was a Wag, I hated the lot of them - pre-Kardashians? - but she has made a name for herself in high fashion. So she has achieved something, following her own passions. I used to think she was an air head, now I don't mind her so much, though she'll never be 'my kind of person' IYFWIM.

WhydidntIknow · 06/10/2023 14:04

You are entitled to your opinion but not facts

Stickortwister · 06/10/2023 14:06

It annoys me that she gets a lot of stick for being miserable and not smiling. As someone who is a bit shy and self conscious about my smile i can relate and it seems misogynist-" cheer up love" etc.
They have tried to get their children exposure but I guess they want them to have stable futures and incomes. I personally would have focused more on education but I imagine brooklyn is making more money from his SM than many others his age who have got law or medical degrees.
Ive watched the documentary and they both come across as comfortable with each other like any couple who have been married for years and aware of each other flaws. Victoria in particular seems to have made lots of sacrifices for them as a couple and a family. I guess some people see that as a weakness on her part but she seems to be incredibly strong and determined ( and I mean that as a compliment).

YokoOnosBigHat · 06/10/2023 14:09

Nice article about their fashion evolution as a couple here.

panelbottle · 06/10/2023 14:18

but the point was that she faced so much negativity at one point, she had to go into hiding. It was way beyond not being universally liked, she got a proper public beating.

She went into hiding because she thought that was what people wanted, she felt overexposed, all the feud stuff & then negative press. She didn't go into hiding because she was too successful. Anyone that famous will end up with a backlash at some point but then it turns around, like it did for David.

Show me a woman famous in her own right who isn't subject to rumours that's she's a diva, bitchy, cold, up herself, etc. That's just what people say about women who have power.

It isn't though. There are plenty of powerful women that don't act like that.

She has no talent, except for somehow managing to still be making huge money while her "business" is a total fail.

And their eldest son is a total wanker.

Fulshaw · 06/10/2023 14:20

I’m sure I read a story once about a woman who was raising money to buy a piece for equipment for the local hospital. I can’t remember what it was but her child had been ill and this thing wasn’t available and they had had to travel a long distance to another hospital. It cost something like £45K.

Anyway, she was doing raffle or auction or something and sent off a football to them asking if he would sign it so she could raffle it. They sent her back the signed football along with the £45K.
