To be baffled at dislike for Victoria Beckham

whenever there is something online about this woman… the haters come out in force. today someone calling her “a Katie price that can keep a husband”

what is the problem? She seems like a fairly inoffensive woman who has made a success out of her life (and that was her own success: she had it before she met David)

She was badly bullied. It makes her achievements even more extraordinary.

panelbottle · 06/10/2023 14:24

And their eldest son is a total wanker.

This is why I don't understand why they exposed their dc so much, was the money worth it. Brooklyn gets so much hate.

What achievements? She was the non singing non dancing filler in a 90s shite girl group and now has a loss making fashion business of hideous clothes that people don't buy.
She's rich, somehow, but that's not really an achievement.

@Cornettoninja

David at least had some functional sporting talent

You are entitled to your opinion but not facts

I’m not about to start defending Beckham but factually he had enough talent to make a career out of it. He was playing for Man U way before he met VB. you don’t get a career in football if you aren’t in possession of some sporting talent.

Tatslookawful · 06/10/2023 14:27

@bigshort she’s taken seriously in fashion world, that’s not by accident & can’t have been easy.

Fulshaw · 06/10/2023 14:27

Functional sporting talent 😆 You absolutely don’t have to like him but come on. It’s generally agreed he was one of the best footballers of his generation.

QueenBitch666 · 06/10/2023 14:28

She dresses her kids in real fur 😡

Cornettoninja · 06/10/2023 14:29

How did she manage to be so well regarded in fashion world with own label & respect of Anna Wintour? Etc? It’s such a competitive place

money buys your way into most things. She’s got a passion and had the time, money and connections to capitalise on. Her fashion line isn’t terrible but it’s hardly groundbreaking.

It wasn’t a particularly competitive generation of English footballers though was it?

Exactly. She bought her way into it. She didn't go to art or fashion college, didn't work her way up through the different fashion houses. At least she is providing employment to other potential future fashion designers.

Fulshaw · 06/10/2023 14:32

I’m not sure it’s fair to describe the Spice Girls as a shite girl band. May not be to your taste but you can’t deny their success - biggest selling album by a girl band in history, biggest grossing tour, most number ones…..

is she though? She's paid her way in. Maybe they like her clothes, but is she actually designing anything or just putting her name to it? in anyways, have you seen the hideous shit the fashion world takes seriously?

Ok, they were a very successful shite girl band Wink

Firetree · 06/10/2023 14:39

She's one of those hard to get to know people I think? She doesn't smile a lot which seems to irk a lot of people but that's pure sexism.

Fullfatandfortyplus · 06/10/2023 14:39

Always liked her. Never understood the haters. Jealousy I guess.

Plus she was/is guaranteed column inches if she’s at your party/show/launch.

Shes been very good at manoeuvring herself into a desirable position but then so have the kardashians.

I'd love to hear what you've done that's so amazing. Yeah sure she got lucky but you could say that about most people who earn a lot of money.

misssunshine4040 · 06/10/2023 14:55

Maybe it's because her demeanour makes her seem unapproachable. No smiles, very forced.
She always looks very stand offish and "stuck up" for want of a better phrase.

I think she sounds a lovely person and has done very well in life and is not at all like the way she comes across in her photos.

FartSock5000 · 06/10/2023 14:55

She's a pop singer (and not a very good one) who used her partner's money to launch a fashion business that is continually failing and she was never qualified, trained or experienced to have.

Fashion industry folk resent her because she didn't pay her dues. She never learned the trade, sewed or got a qualification. She paid her way in.

Music industry folk look down on her because she's a glorified lip syncher who piggy backed to fame and money off the back of more talented band mates.

She is probably a nice lady and deserves happiness but she got where she is off the backs of others and not on her own merit so the media don't give her any respect as she hasn't really earned any.

WhydidntIknow · 06/10/2023 14:58

@Cornettoninja

enough talent and some functional talent

David Beckham FIFA Player Of The Year silver award x2, Real Madrid Player of the Year, EUFA player of the year.

He was an elite athlete.

Kaill · 06/10/2023 15:03

I find her annoyingly overprivileged. Her fashion business has never made a profit - her husband props it up because she enjoys it as a little hobby and it makes her feel legitimate. I think her total losses are in the range of £50 million now, but she keeps pumping money into it because she likes to play at being a designer.

Same with her kids - they just throw money at whatever they feel like doing, and try to buy legitimacy, instead of working hard and actually doing something real. If her son wanted to be a chef he had every opportunity in the world to study hard and work with the best. But that was too much effort, so instead they just threw money at him and paid for a cookery show, despite the fact he has zero knowledge of cooking. I would have had more respect for him if he’d actually tried to qualify as a proper chef, instead of just resorting to the “I don’t need to work hard because I have money” approach.

pickledandpuzzled · 06/10/2023 15:09

If the rest of the world is as ignorant and superficial as me, it’s because she’s incredibly slim and apparently very disciplined about what she eats and her exercise. She may take her appearance more seriously than anything else.

Now, that’s a rubbish reason to dislike someone, and quite possibly totally unfair and unfounded. It’s the impression I’ve picked up from paying absolutely no attention to anything remotely mainstream.

Incidentally, she’s one of very very few people I’d recognise and be able to name. That makes her extremely successful. I don’t recognise Madonna, Tyler Swift, barely anyone. So she’s doing something very successfully.

Kaill · 06/10/2023 15:18

Dulra · 06/10/2023 14:31

Exactly. She bought her way into it. She didn't go to art or fashion college, didn't work her way up through the different fashion houses. At least she is providing employment to other potential future fashion designers.

That’s what I meant. Zero effort, she just bought her way in to the tune of £50m. Then when her son wanted to be a photographer, instead of studying and working they tried to buy his way in. Then he wanted to be a chef, so instead of studying and working they tried to buy his way in. They have no respect for the people who actually work hard in these professions, they think they can buy any sort of success they want and we’ll all just lap it up and accept it.

StephanieSuperpowers · 06/10/2023 15:23

Since when have the general public been gatekeepers of who gets to be a chef or a photographer?

Wheresmypal · 06/10/2023 15:25

I totally agree! I really like her!

She's got a stellar work ethic (unlike me, so I admire that), she knew she was not a naturally talented singer and dancer so worked really hard to compensate for that, had the gumption and tenacity to keep going, and then when she could have retired and lived an easy life after the Spice Girls she set out in the notoriously difficult fashion business. Yes, she had the money to buy the best materials, but she also had a massive credibility problem yet still put herself out there to face down all that very public criticism. I admire that.

Plus I remember the first journalist to put her on the cover of Vogue, said she had no intention of doing so, but after meeting VB to interview her, she really liked her, and said she was the only interviewee she had ever had who asked her questions about herself back ( do you have children too, etc).

She's well mannered, self -deprecating and comes across as very ' what you see is what you get' and is prepared to work hard against the odd for what she wants.

I admire that.
