To be baffled at dislike for Victoria Beckham

whenever there is something online about this woman… the haters come out in force. today someone calling her “a Katie price that can keep a husband”

what is the problem? She seems like a fairly inoffensive woman who has made a success out of her life (and that was her own success: she had it before she met David)

I don't know why people think David is thick? Clearly he knew how to capitalise on his looks/brand partnerships that was a pretty new thing for footballers back then. And obviously his decision the move clubs helped him become a global brand.

Having said that, I think she deserves respect for everything she has achieved.

And I also agree, that Brand Beckham is mainly her doing. Right people, right place and well timed. She's one strong & clever woman.

Show me a woman famous in her own right who isn't subject to rumours that's she's a diva, bitchy, cold, up herself, etc. That's just what people say about women who have power.

I don't get it at all. She barely steps a foot out of line, she's got a fairly stable marriage (certain things excluded) and on the whole seems like a very hands on mother. Her friends speak very highly of her. The criticisms are she doesn't smile much in public and is too thin. Lock away the key!

People hate successful women. No they don't, Beyoncé & Taylor Swift are almost revered

Mixed feelings here. I know someone who knows her and said she’s really funny when her guard is down, she has a very dry sense of humour.

But… have you seen the interview where she reckons she grew up working class, before David reminded her her dad drove her to school in a Rolls Royce? I think she’s the equivalent of everything looking peachy on FB when you know in real life there are major issues going on. We’ve all got that friend.

I like her though. And him. Brooklyn is a knob but the other kids seem alright so far.

Agree with you but she had quite a wanky image for a while. Making a thing of never smiling, the stick thin look with bolted on implants, weird fussy fashion. She's moved on from that but it wasn't the best public image.

I "hate" her as when she was pregnant with Harper, I was the same weeks pregnant with my DD. When watching William and Kate marrying, she looked wonderful. I was a sweaty mess.

I've never understood the hate either and after watching the Beckham doc I have more respect for her now as a mother. I couldn't imagine having to uproot my small children for my husband's job. She's a better woman than me.

I never really had an opinion about her but after watching the Beckham show on Netflix I think she seems really genuine and so grounded.

Haven't watched the documentary yet but I like her. I think she's funny and doesn't take herself seriously. She maybe very thin but their daughter has always just looked like a normal healthy child.

@donkra no one will be universally loved though will they? I mean Taylor's concerts have impacted the US economy, millions love her so I just disagree with the statement that people hate successful women.

I don't think the Beckhams are as nice as they would have us believe, David's true self came out in the leaked emails and his crusade for his knighthood is quite off putting.

Beyonce and TS are both extremely famous and have a lot of fans. That is very, very far from being universally revered. Lots of people of both sexes hate both. Lots of people hate any independently successful woman, because the qualities that go with extreme success don't really align with the qualities associated with femininity.

I used to live near them years ago.

They were always both perfectly nice. I used to run into him regularly at the petrol station and her at the local soft play. They used to do loads of charitable stuff locally but it was always kept quiet.

I think it winds people up that you can have absolutely no talent or skill yet end up rich and famous. Possibly people are a bit jealous, too.

I don’t mind her. Although her new posh accent on her make up tutorials makes me chuckle.

I think as women we are programmed to hate ourselves and hate and be jealous of other women. Imagine how strong we would be if we had confidence and unity!

I really like her. Just watched the new Netflix documentary and it’s made me like her more. She seems quite down to earth and funny.

@donkra I said they were revered, I didn't say it was universal. There will be people who don't like them or their music but will still recognise what they have achieved. It's impossible to be universally revered regardless of your sex. Again I just don't agree that that people hate successful women. I also don't think that's why some dislike VB. You can disagree though.

I put this on the other thread but I feel really sorry for her.

She's had to put up with her husband's alleged affairs and being a public idol while I suspect he's very different beyond closed doors. I think the email gave a small insight into his real nature (and the leak about the Unicef expenses).

I actually think she's a funny and decent person and deserves a lot better than being with someone that saps her self-worth.

I think it might ve something to do with the fact she always looks so miserable and always has done and appears to have little personality

I think she just comes across dislikable because of her name (posh) people instantly assume stick up but the more I see the actual her, the more I think she's nice
