To be baffled at dislike for Victoria Beckham

whenever there is something online about this woman… the haters come out in force. today someone calling her “a Katie price that can keep a husband”

what is the problem? She seems like a fairly inoffensive woman who has made a success out of her life (and that was her own success: she had it before she met David)

I loved the Sprite girl's personally.

I think that's the point though, they WERE successful, but there are a lot of more talented singers/musicians out there who are/were less successful

You can say this about so many famous people though. The most famous models are necessarily the best models, same for actors, pop stars etc.

There's a funny video of her getting a driving license photo in the states. She has a team of people primping her and poses like she is in a photo shoot. Then asks for a retake (which is refused) because her hair isn't right!

I don’t hate the woman, but I can barely watch a Spice Girls video without turning it into a game of how did they cover up the fact that Posh didn’t really sing or dance. More power to her for making it into the group and making all that money.

She also has a reputation for being a bit odd and obsessive with her restricted diet and such and people wonder how she matched to a bloke like Beckham. Having seen him reveal a bit about himself in interviews though I totally get it. If anything he has more obsessive tendencies than she does. Finding someone who can understand that aspect of yourself is a wonderful thing.

I prefer my people smiley, whether man or woman. I know it's the media, but she always looks so serious. I don't hate her though, I don't know her. I'd just like to see her relax a bit.

I did laugh at the comment on the other thread about her fame and money being on account of her husband. I never liked the Spice Girls and, other than Mel C, didn't think they could sing. But they were incredibly famous and successful. That VB built on that fame to make more money shows that there's probably a pretty ruthless business woman in there. I don't think the 'brains' behind Brand Beckham is David's!

But why does it bother so many people that she only eats steamed fish and veg?

Why is it socially acceptable for some people to have a McD every day or a ready meal every day but for her its something to complain about? It literally doesn't affect anyone else.

I think she actually looks healthy. She might be naturally slim, but she's eating nutritious food - just because she has limited preferences isn't actually a problem to anyone.

I think they were all really pretty talentless, I agree that the Spice Girls weren't my type of music BTW . They were of the era, a group made up as an image, style over substance. I think I'm just irritated that they made money when they were all useless.

I find it odd too. She’s done literally nothing wrong and lots of things right. Also I really like her eyeliner.

Was talking to my friend about this the other day on the back of the Beckham documentary. Poor woman, she got very publicly cheated on and somehow the public blamed her for it. So weird. Although I do remember some terrible photos of them skiing after the affair accusations came out and she was smiling maniacally, I don't think that they helped with public sympathy.

Honestly, I think a lot of it comes from the whole not-smiling thing back in the Posh Spice days. Her persona was slightly aloof, and so basically bitchy small-minded people read her as insufficiently self-deprecating and apologetic for her success, and insufficiently performative of femininity.

Tbh I'm not convinced her inherent singing and performing talent was equal to her success in the Spice Girls; her success in fashion and cosmetics is certainly "earned" off the back of some genuinely impressive fashion and business savvy, although needless to say already being Posh Spice and Mrs David Beckham is a bit of a leg-up. But I've no resentment for her; she played the hand she was dealt and happened to do very well with it, then worked her arse off to build a second career. Good for her.

By the look of things she is a very hard worker, ambitious, aloving mother and has a good sense of humor. Don't know why she gets so much hate.

She has made the absolute most of what she's got with self discipline and a bit of luck, married well ( depending on how you qualify that ) has a seemingly solid family and maintains a relatively decent private life.

Some people find that hard to swallow, that's their problem though.

With all the hate towards them in the past as seen in the documentary. I am not surprised she seems distant and uninterested. I believe people just want to bitch all the time no matter what. Some people hate that Kate Middleton is always smiling. Really bizarre!

I don't think it's weird at all. Depressing but it's really common that the wife get blamed eg let herself go or in Victoria's case didn't go to Spain. Normal wives get blamed so the wife of a iconic sports star is going to get blame.

And then the whole pretend that there is nothing wrong, do a photoshoot showing "our love. It's like when Dominic Wests wife was on the doorstep with him echoing cheating politicians back in the day. It's sad that women still have to do this.

I think this plays a big role

She's basically the British version of Kris Jenner. She created the Beckham Brand. David wouldn't be half as wealthy as he is, if she hadn't been involved.

I think its because of the posh pose, ie the resting bitch face.

I've never had any issue with her, I was a secret Spice Girls fan anyway.

Some of the things the Beckhams have done have been questionable however, probably no more than other rich celebs though.

I’m way too old to be a SG fan and they pretty much passed me by but from what I’ve seen of VB in interviews etc she seems like she’s got a really good SOH and doesn’t take herself as seriously as maybe her face suggests.

I’ll be honest, I’ve never really got the big thing about DB. I’d kick him out of bed for having cold feet - he’s not someone I find attractive at all.

But despite their ups and downs they seem a tight unit who really care about each other.

People hate successful women. On a much smaller scale I’ve had friends turn into frenemies when I started my own business and it did well. Some people hands such low self esteem they can’t bear to see others do well.

If you think David Beckham isn't the key player behind Brand Beckham you are very misguided.
He is very much in control of all aspects in his life and marriage.

I love her, she's smart, funny, beautiful, successful! Seems to have a wonderful family life. Can't think of anything she's done wrong tbh.

I definitely think she's brighter than DB but I think Simon Fuller is more the Kris Jenner figure in this context than VB. He was instrumental in Brand Beckham becoming so huge.

Isn't she rumoured to be a bit of a diva?
Like nobody must look at her, demanding ladies toilets be cleared because she wishes to use them.without mingling with the plebs?
Maybe she's improved with age but I wish she would crack a smile once a decade or so 😉
